Start by focusing on the foundational structural elements of your application, working from the "top down" or "bottom up" based on your application's hierarchy. These structural changes, like edge-to-edge content and updated navigation and controls, often require corresponding code modifications. As a first step, recompile your application with the new SDK to see what updates are automatically applied, especially if you've been using standard controls. Then, carefully analyze where the new design elements can be applied to your UI, paying particular attention to custom controls or UI that could benefit from a refresh. Address the large structural items first then focus on smaller details is recommended. Will we need to migrate our UI code to Swift and SwiftUI to adopt the new design? No, you will not need to migrate your UI code to Swift and SwiftUI to adopt the new design. The UI frameworks fully support the new design, allowing you to migrate your app with as little effort as possible, especially if you've been using standard controls. The goal is to make it easy to adopt the new design, regardless of your current UI framework, to achieve a cohesive look across the operating system. What was the reason for choosing Liquid Glass over frosted glass, as used in visionOS? The choice of Liquid Glass was driven by the desire to bring content to life. The see-through nature of Liquid Glass enhances this effect. The appearance of Liquid Glass adapts based on its size; larger glass elements look more frosted, which aligns with the design of visionOS, where everything feels larger and benefits from the frosted look. What are best practices for apps that use customized navigation bars? The new design emphasizes behavior and transitions as much as static appearance. Consider whether you truly need a custom navigation bar, or if the system-provided controls can meet your needs. Explore new APIs for subtitles and custom views in navigation bars, designed to support common use cases. If you still require a custom solution, ensure you're respecting safe areas using APIs like SwiftUI's safeAreaInset. I want to know why new UI Framework APIs aren’t backward compatible, specifically in SwiftUI? It leads to code with lots of if-else statements. Existing APIs have been updated to work with the new design where possible, ensuring that apps using those APIs will adopt the new design and function on both older and newer operating systems. However, new APIs often depend on deep integration across the framework and graphics stack, making backward compatibility impractical. When using these new APIs, it's important to consider how they fit within the context of the latest OS. The use of if-else statements allows you to maintain compatibility with older systems while taking full advantage of the new APIs and design features on newer systems. If you are using new APIs, it likely means you are implementing something very specific to the new design language. Using conditional code allows you to intentionally create different code paths for the new design versus older operating systems. Prefer to use if #available where appropriate to intentionally adopt new design elements. Are there any Liquid Glass materials in iOS or macOS that are only available as part of dedicated components? Or are all those materials available through new UIKit and AppKit views? Is it possible to implement your own sidebar on macOS without NSSplitViewController, but still provide the Liquid Glass appearance? While technically possible to create a custom sidebar that approximates the Liquid Glass appearance without using NSSplitViewController, it is not recommended. The system implementation of the sidebar involves significant unseen complexity, including interlayering with scroll edge effects and fullscreen behaviors. NSSplitViewController provides the necessary level of abstraction for the framework to handle these details correctly. Regarding the SceneDelagate and scene based life-cycle, I would like to confirm that AppDelegate is not going away. Also if the above is a correct understanding, is there any advice as to what should, and should not, be moved to the SceneDelegate? UIApplicationDelegate is not going away and still serves a purpose for application-level interactions with the system and managing scenes at a higher level. Move code related to your app's scene or UI into the UISceneDelegate. Remember that adopting scenes doesn't necessarily mean supporting multiple scenes; an app can be scene-based but still support only one scene. Navigation Bar Jumping Issue in SwiftUI with TabView and NavigationStack (Observed in Apple's Example Code)
I recently started exploring the latest version of SwiftUI and encountered an issue while working with TabView and NavigationStack. I downloaded the example code provided by Apple and began making changes to explore new SwiftUI features. However, I noticed that the navigation bar "jumps" or resets when switching between tabs, even in their example implementation. Here are some changes which I made below in the files: LibraryView: .navigationTitle("Library") .navigationBarTitleDisplayMode(.inline) .toolbarBackground(Color("AccentColor"),for: .navigationBar) WatchNowView: .navigationTitle("Watch Now") .navigationBarTitleDisplayMode(.inline) .toolbarBackground(Color("AccentColor"),for: .navigationBar) example code url :- destinationVideo I suspect the issue arises because each tab bar item has its own NavigationStack. When we set a navigation title for each view, the NavigationStack resets the navigation bar on view appearance, which causes this visual bug. Thank you!

NSTextField Delegates Not Triggering After Refactoring NSView to NSViewController in macOS App
I'm developing a macOS application and facing an issue with NSTextField delegates after refactoring my code. Here's the situation: I have an NSWindowController. Inside the NSWindowController, there's a container NSView named containerView. On top of containerView, I added a custom NSView subclass named MyDetailsView. MyDetailsView has two NSTextField instances, and their delegates are properly set. The delegate methods like controlTextDidChange(_:) were getting called as expected. Due to some additional requirements, I refactored MyDetailsView into MyDetailsViewController, a subclass of NSViewController. I created a corresponding .xib file for MyDetailsViewController. Updated the code to load and add MyDetailsViewController's view (view property) to containerView. Verified that the NSTextField delegates are still being set, and the fields are displayed correctly in the UI. However, after this refactor, the NSTextField delegate methods (e.g., controlTextDidChange(_:)) are no longer being triggered. **What I've Tried: ** Verified that the delegates for the NSTextField instances are correctly set after the refactor. Ensured that the MyDetailsViewController's view is added to containerView. Is it possible to make GeometryReader less vertically greedy?
I must be missing something here. I want to put a landscape image in a geometry reader that contains a ZStack that contains an image and an overlay centred on top of the Image. I would like the ZStack and GeoReader's sizes to be the size of Image. (ie I want geometry.size to be the size of the image, which can be used to control the offset of the overlay's position.) Unfortunately the ZStack also includes the space above the image (ie the top safeArea) and the GeometryReader also includes all the space below the Image. (so geometry.size.height is greater than the height of Image) I've gone down rabbit holes of adding other items above/below, but I don't seem to be able to prevent the GeometryReader from being vertically greedy. eg the Text(" ") above the ZStack in the VStack solves the ZStack claiming the top safe area. But adding Text(" ") below the ZStack does not prevent the GeometryReader from claiming more vertical space below the image. iOS 18 Button with accented image is broken(cannot tap) in desktop widget.

UIimage init crash for old Xcode

Adding a Label with UIImage and Text to the TabSection Header in tvOS 18+
I've been trying to add a header to the tabSection of the tabview in tvos 18+ . init( @TabContentBuilder<SelectionValue> content: () -> Content, @ViewBuilder header: () -> Header ) where Header : View, Footer == EmptyView Here the ehader clearly conforms to View but i cant quite fit the label with uiimage as the icon into this. This Label when i add it to any other view, the image is in the specified 50 x 50 size but inside header it functions weirdly to be of a huge size. but also to note, if i simply hav an icon here, it is correct. So what is the problem here.. can someone help me? im supposed to add the user profile and name in the header. I dont think there's any other way

iOS Widget can't connect to the host app and shows Skeleton.
Some of our users keep reporting that occasionally some widgets (which initially were working perfectly) are now broken and show only skeletons. Note that the app has multiple widgets, and this happens only to some of them (that is when some widgets get broken, some other widgets are still working normally). While developing the app, I came across this symptom as well, and when I read the device console, I found the following errors in the console (which the system was repeatedly reporting to the console): Unable to get connection interface: Error Domain=LNConnectionErrorDomain Code=1100 "Unable to locate com.example.app.MyAppntents for the com.apple.intents-service extension point" UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Unable to locate com.example.app.MyAppIntents for the com.apple.intents-service extension point} The affected widgets use the 'UserDefaults with groups' to read the data that is stored by the host app. And I think that sometimes the widget fails (or even crashes) while reading the data from the UserDefaults and it ends up showing the skeleton. The only remedy I found was Uninstall the app Reboot the device Install the app again. After this, the widget starts to work again.. So, what can be the reason behind this? Is this an iOS bug or what and how to fight it?

view controller life cycle bug in xcode 16 ios 18
hi does any one know if there changes in lifecycle in xcode 16 ios 18 cause i notice that my view will appear does what view didappear use to do in older version and it kind of a problem cause all the rest of ios work diffrently does anyone else found a problem with it? or does anyone know if there was a known change to life cycles

SwiftUI crashes EXC_BREAKPOINT at _dispatch_semaphore_dispose
Based on crash reports for our app in production, we're seeing these SwiftUI crashes but couldn't figure out why it is there. These crashes are pretty frequent (>20 crashed per day). Would really appreciate it if anyone has any insight on why this happens. Based on the stacktrace, i can't really find anything that links back to our app (replaced with MyApp in the stacktrace). How can I integrate my own text changes into UITextView's undo manager?
I have an app that uses UITextView for some text editing. I have some custom operations I can do on the text that I want to be able to undo, and I'm representing those operations in a way that plugs into NSUndoManager nicely. For example, if I have a button that appends an emoji to the text, it looks something like this: func addEmoji() { let inserting = NSAttributedString(string: "😀") self.textStorage.append(inserting) let len = inserting.length let range = NSRange(location: self.textStorage.length - len, length: len) self.undoManager?.registerUndo(withTarget: self, handler: { view in view.textStorage.deleteCharacters(in: range) } } My goal is something like this: Type some text Press the emoji button to add the emoji Trigger undo (via gesture or keyboard shortcut) and the emoji is removed Trigger undo again and the typing from step 1 is reversed If I just type and then trigger undo, the typing is reversed as you'd expect. And if I just add the emoji and trigger undo, the emoji is removed. But if I do the sequence above, step 3 works but step 4 doesn't. The emoji is removed but the typing isn't reversed. Notably, if step 3 only changes attributes of the text, like applying a strikethrough to a selection, then the full undo chain works. I can type, apply strikethrough, undo strikethrough, and undo typing. It's almost as if changing the text invalidates the undo manager's previous operations? How do I insert my own changes into UITextView's NSUndoManager without invalidating its chain of other operations?

Hi! After upgrading to Xcode 16.1 my watchOS app is getting below error using a DatePicker configured with: displayedComponents: .hourAndMinute. I cannot find a solution for this error/warning. It only appears when im using : .hourAndMinute or : .hourAndMinuteandSeconds, but not .date. Note! My code is unchanged only change I Xcode upgrade. Any suggestions? Change anchor position of view for the tvOS focus engine
I'm developing a grid of focusable elements in SwiftUI with different sizes for tvOS (similar to a tv channel grid). Because the Focus Engine calculates the next view to focus based on the center of the currently focused view, sometimes it changes focus to an unexpected view. Here's an example: Actual: Expected: Is it possible to customize the anchor point from which the focus engine traces a ray to the next view? I would prefer the leading edge in my case.

How to Maintain Background Color Consistency During ZoomTransitions in SwiftUI?
I’m currently working on a SwiftUI project and trying to implement a transition effect similar to ZoomTransitions. However, I’ve run into an issue. When transitioning from Page A to Page B using .navigationTransition(.zoom(sourceID: "world", in: animation)), Page A shrinks as expected, but its background color changes to the default white instead of the color I preset. I want the background color of Page A to remain consistent with my preset during the entire transition process. VStack within ScrollView on macOS 15.2 makes bottom area unclickable
Suppose there are two buttons in VStack, the second button is unclickable. If I remove ScrollView, everything works fine. it works fine before macOS 15.2.

Validate drag operations with Transferable
Let's say I want to build a simple photo management app on Mac or iPad with Swift UI. This app has multi-window support. My photos are organized inside albums. I should be able to drag photos between windows from one album to another. I struggle to get this working properly with Swift UI. Writing modern code I would like to use Transferable. Let's say my photos are not real files. So I can't use a FileRepresentation. Instead I use CodableRepresentation and encode an identifier. This identifier is later used to drive the move operation between folders. I ran into some limitations here Transferable seems to be meant for copy-like Drag & Drop operations. I have no possible to get a "move" cursor on macOS (it's always the copy cursor with the green + sign). Also the API reads like it is about importing/exporting – not moving. When using dropDestination on ForEach, I completely lack the possibility to deny a drop (e.g. when a photo is already part of the album). I'd like to have modifier key to switch between copying and moving. Sometimes a drop should be redirected to a different index. How to do that? Is there any chance to do this with Transferable? It even doesn't seem to be easy with NSItemProvider and onDrop/onDrag? Or should we still use a plain old UICollectionView/NSCollectionView, if we want to have more sophisticated control over drag/drop validation?

What is the designated way to do custom background drawing in TextKit 2 when using UITextView/NSTextView?
In TextKit 1, I can override drawBackground(forGlyphRange:at:) in NSLayoutManager to do custom background drawing. However, I'm not too sure what the designated way of doing background drawing is in TextKit 2. One thing I've tried is to do custom drawing in my own CALayer that's used in the configureRenderingSurface delegate callback, but I'm unsure if we are suppose to use this API and steal the textViewportLayoutController.delegate away from _UITextLayoutcanvasView?

Unable to display SwiftUI View Previews in a Static Framework target
Hello, I am currently encountering an issue where SwiftUI View Previews cannot be displayed when the View is defined in a Static Framework target. This issue only occurs under specific conditions. Environment Xcode: 16.2 Scheme Structure: MainApp Test Target: TestHogeFeature Test Setting: Gather coverage (Code coverage collection) enabled(all) Target Structure: MainApp (Application target) Dependencies: [HogeFeature, Core] HogeFeature (Static Framework target) Dependencies: [Core] Core (Framework target) Dependencies: None TestHogeFeature (Unit test target) Dependencies: [HogeFeature] Summary I am currently working on a SwiftUI-based project and have encountered an issue where Previews fail to display under specific conditions. Below are the details: Issue In the MainApp scheme, when the code coverage collection setting (Gather coverage for) is enabled, Previews for SwiftUI Views within the HogeFeature (Static Framework) target fail to display correctly. However, the issue is resolved by taking one of the following actions: Change HogeFeature from a Static Framework to a Dynamic Framework. Remove the build setting MACH_O_TYPE: staticlib Disable the Gather coverage setting in the MainApp scheme. I have attached the actual error log from the failed Preview. preview error log Questions Why does this issue occur only when using a Static Framework with code coverage enabled? Is there any way to resolve this issue while maintaining the current configuration (Static Framework with code coverage enabled)?
