I'm having this problem, with this code:
let docPicker = UIDocumentPickerViewController(forOpeningContentTypes: [
.pdf
])
docPicker.delegate = self
docPicker.modalPresentationStyle = .currentContext
view.window?.rootViewController?.present(docPicker, animated: true, completion: nil)
but then when I open the simulator and click the button that calls to the method that has this code...
Cannot pick the pdf document.
Testing in browserstack with real devices is working, but it's a very slow process, why I cannot use simulators to make work this?
I'm attempting to write a macOS version of https://stackoverflow.com/a/74935849/2178159.
From my understanding, I should be able to set the menu property of an NSResponder and it will automatically show on right click.
I've tried a couple things:
A: set menu on an NSHostingController's view - when I do this and right or ctrl click, nothing happens.
B: set menu on NSHostingController directly - when I do this I get a crash Abstract method -[NSResponder setMenu:] called from class _TtGC7SwiftUI19NSHostingControllerGVS_21_ViewModifier_...__. Subclasses must override
C: manually call NSMenu.popup in a custom subclasses of NSHostingController or NSView's rightMouseDown method - nothing happens.
extension View {
func contextMenu(menu: NSMenu) -> some View {
modifier(ContextMenuViewModifier(menu: menu))
}
}
struct ContextMenuViewModifier: ViewModifier {
let menu: NSMenu
func body(content: Content) -> some View {
Interaction_UI(
view: { content },
menu: menu
)
.fixedSize()
}
}
private struct Interaction_UI<Content: View>: NSViewRepresentable {
typealias NSViewType = NSView
@ViewBuilder var view: Content
let menu: NSMenu
func makeNSView(context: Context) -> NSView {
let v = NSHostingController(rootView: view)
// option A - no effect
v.view.menu = menu
// option B - crash
v.menu = menu
return v.view
}
func updateNSView(_ nsView: NSViewType, context: Context) {
// part of option A
nsView.menu = menu
}
}
Hi all,
I am trying to allow users of my app to select extra options when opening documents, and to remember those options when re-opening documents at launch.
So far best idea I have is:
Subclass NSDocumentController to provide an NSOpenPanel.accessoryView with the options
Create a URL bookmark for each opened file and keep a mapping of bookmarks to options
On launch and when the recent documents list changes, prune the stored mappings to match only the recent items
Has anyone done this before, or know of a better approach?
Thank you.

Hello, I have a Task model in my application which has an optional many to many relationship to a User model.
task.assignedUsers
user.tasks
I am looking to construct a SwiftData predicate to fetch tasks which either have no assigned users or assigned users does not contain specific user.
Here is a partially working predicate I have now:
static func assignedToOthersPredicate() -> Predicate<Task> {
let currentUserGUID = User.currentUserGUID
return #Predicate<Task> { task in
task.assignedUsers.flatMap { users in
users.contains(where: { $0.guid != currentUserGUID })
} == true
}
}
This only returns tasks assigned to others, but not those which have no assigned users.
If combine it with this:
static func notAssignedPredicate() -> Predicate<Task> {
return #Predicate<Task> { task in
task.assignedUsers == nil
}
}
Then I get a run time crash: "to-many key not allowed here"
What is the proper way to do this?
Thanks.
can't see what the problem is .. Im getting the error:

Why is there no option as a CarPlay developer to enable the creation of an App to track and enter your car's maintenance records? I know the pat reply would be Apple doesn't want you to do this while car is in motion. But I would normally do this while parked at the dealership or other service provider no?
I am developing a watchOS app with a tab view, and inside one of the tabs, I have a 2x2 collection view layout. Each collection item contains a view that handles:
Tap Gesture (.onTapGesture) → Executes an action immediately.
Long Press Gesture (LongPressGesture) → Triggers an update when long press starts and again when it ends.
Drag Gesture (DragGesture) → Updates the position while dragging and resets values when the gesture ends.
Issue:
Most of the time, the gestures work correctly, but if another finger swipes on the screen while a long press is active, sometimes the onEnded event does not trigger, leaving the button in an active state.
Observations:
The onTapGesture executes normally without issues.
The LongPressGesture starts as expected, but if another finger interacts with the screen, the onEnded of the drag gesture does not always trigger.
This results in the button remaining visually or functionally "pressed" until another interaction occurs.
Has anyone encountered similar behavior in watchOS? How can I ensure that long press and drag gestures always complete even when another finger swipes on the screen?
Thanks in advance!
When a parent view is selected for the detail pane of a NavigationSplitView subviews appear as expected but not with the dimensions set by .frame on the subview.
Toggling the flag works as expected, appearing the subview with the idealWidth. I persist the flag in a SwiftData @Model class so that on restart and first appearance of the parent view the Right View subview presence is as it was left. The problem is that the .frame size is ignored, apparently. No manner of programatic view refresh seems to trigger a resize to the preferred values, only toggling the flag.
Is there a better way to handle a collapsing subview in an HSplitView? Why is the .frame not respected?
In this example I've added the else clause so HSplitView always has two views with .frame settings but the result is the same without it.
VStack {
HSplitView {
VStack {
Text("left view")
}
.frame(
minWidth: 100,
idealWidth: .infinity,
maxWidth: .infinity,
maxHeight: .infinity
)
if documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing {
VStack {
Text("right view")
}
.frame(
minWidth: 100,
idealWidth: 200,
maxWidth: .infinity,
maxHeight: .infinity
)
}
else {
Text("")
.frame(
minWidth: 0,
idealWidth: 0,
maxWidth: 0,
maxHeight: .infinity
)
}
}
HStack {
Button("Right View",
systemImage: { documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing ? "chart.pie.fill" : "chart.pie"}(),
action: { documentSettings.nwIsPieChartShowing.toggle() }
)
}
}
}
}

There are two issues about SFSafariViewController.
After rotate from landscape to portrait,
The topAnchor is destroyed.
The specified bar tint color and control tint color are invalidated.(Returns to system color)
Regarding the second issue, I’ve found a temporary workaround.
Override the viewWillTransition(to:with:) and keep it empty. Don't call super.viewWillTransition(to:with:).
Since UIKit is not open source, I don’t know the exact cause, but I found something that could be the key to the issue. So, I reported it to Apple Feedback Assistant. You can check the details and the sample project in the GitHub repository below.

In our app clip, we open/show the full app download banner. We used to have the expected behavior, but with seemingly no changes to the app download banner code we have the following issue.
Expected behavior:
App download banner shows in app clip, user presses "Get" button, app is downloaded and installs, "Get" button changes to "Open" button (note: button is blue), user presses "Open" button and the full app is opened.
Current behavior:
App download banner shows in app clip, user presses "Get" button, app is downloaded and installs, "Get" button changes to "Open" button (note: button is now grey), user presses "Open" button but nothing happens.
With the current behavior, the full app is correctly downloaded and the appclip removes itself from the phone, but the open button does nothing.
https://developer.apple.com/documentation/mapkit/mkgeojsondecoder?changes=__9&language=objc
I am trying to use this decoder to obtain single points form a geojson file. I am able to do this successfully however, when using MapKit for iOS 17+ I am unable to use a ForEach to iterate through these points (stored in an array) and display these on the map as a custom annotation or even a marker.
MapAnnotation(coordinate: point.coordinate) {
VStack {
Image(systemName: "mappin.circle.fill")
.resizable()
.frame(width: 25, height: 25)
.foregroundColor(.purple)
if let title = point.title {
Text(title)
.font(.caption)
.foregroundColor(.purple)
.padding(2)
.background(Color.white.opacity(0.8))
.cornerRadius(3)
}
}
}
I am revising my app to support NSWritingToolsCoordinator/ NSWritingToolsCoordinatorDelegate.
When proofreading some paragraphs, it works well.
But, when proofreading many paragraphs (for example, 56 paragraphs), it can't complete the proofreading.
I am not sure which is wrong with my app or macOS API.
I think I implemented all NSWritingToolsCoordinatorDelegate methods.
Is there any information for such an issue?
Phenomenon
For paragraphs 1-9, text animation completed. But, for paragraphs 10-56, text animation does not complete.
It shows 5 corrected items, but I can't jump to items 3, 4, 5, when I click the ">" button in the "Proofread" window.
Items 3, 4, 5 were not corrected actually.
Log
For each NSWritingToolsCoordinatorDelegate method, the method name and main arguments are output by NSLog.

Why is the pitch slider always visible in the SwiftUI tvOS map view? It doesn't even appear to be supported there, let alone the fact that I specify mapControlVisibility(.hidden). Am I missing something or is Apple? See attached screenshot. This really messes up my UI.
Here is my code:
import SwiftUI
import MapKit
struct ContentView: View {
@State var position = MapCameraPosition.region(MKCoordinateRegion(
center: CLLocationCoordinate2D(latitude: 37.7749, longitude: -122.4194),
span: MKCoordinateSpan(latitudeDelta: 0.05, longitudeDelta: 0.05)))
var body: some View {
Map(position: $position)
.mapControlVisibility(.hidden)
.mapStyle(.standard(pointsOfInterest: .including(.airport)))
}
}
I tried to create a Text View using attributedString. I want to set the line height using paragraphStyle and return the Text, but paragraphStyle is not being applied. Why is that?
extension Text {
init?(_ content: String, font: StyleType, color: Color = .ppBlack) {
var attributedString = AttributedString(content)
attributedString.font = Font.custom(font.fontWeight, fixedSize: font.fontSize)
attributedString.foregroundColor = color
let paragraphStyle = NSMutableParagraphStyle()
paragraphStyle.minimumLineHeight = 16
paragraphStyle.maximumLineHeight = 16
paragraphStyle.lineSpacing = 0
attributedString.mergeAttributes(.init([.paragraphStyle: paragraphStyle]))
self = Text(attributedString)
}
}
I have view showing a list of contacts. When the user taps one, I want to raise a sheet that shows the contact's phone numbers and E-mail addresses and lets the user pick one.
When the user taps a list entry, I store the associated Contact object into a @State variable called selectedContact. Then I set the boolean that's bound to the sheet modifier's isPresented flag. That modifier:
.sheet(isPresented: $showContactMethodSheet, content: { ContactMethodView(withContact: selectedContact!) })
But the app crashes, because despite selectedContact having been set. It looks like the sheet was pre-built with a nil selected contact upon view load. Why, and what is the expected approach here?

I have found a system bug with UINavigationController, UIGestureRecognizerDelegate mainly the swipe back control.
I have reproduced this in many apps, while some that use custom swipe back i can not reproduce, however any app using default uikit/swift transitions i can reproduce the flicker/previous screen flashing
The Bug: a slight tap or series of quick taps anywhere on the screen (with the slightest (1-2pt -x)confuse the system into thinking its a swipe back gesture, however instead of pushing back to previous screen the UI flickers and flashes the previous screen. for a split second, very easy to reproduce.
on screens with lots of options of boxes to tap it happens quite often.
I have removed all custom "swipe back from anywhere" logic, all custom gesture logic, and can still reproduce by tapping the edge of the screen
with only UINavigationController, UIGestureRecognizerDelegate in my navigation controller.
Please let me know the best way to get in contact with someone at apple to either build an extension to prevent this flicker or if a developer has a fix but this is rarely talked about. (velocity limits etc do not work, and just make the gesture feel awful)
all the developers i have reached out too have looked into this and have said "its an ios bug, only fix is build a custom swipe back from anywhere, or wait for apple to fix it).... as a small indie app, building my own seems daunting
Recap: quick or taps with small x movement flash previous screen instead of pushing back or simply recognizing it as a tap and not flashing previous screen. this happens with no custom code default uikit/swift. Link me your app i can probably reproduce it, I have reproduced it in X(was hard), Retro(easy), and many more.
The goal is to have a smooth native swipe/drag back from anywhere gesture while preventing flicking on fast taps or short taps with minor x movement. i have tried everything from setting limits to -x, velocity limits etc. nothing fixes this.
happy hacking!
PS i hope someone at apple calls me and i can explain this and we can fix it for every app in an update.
