Summary of iOS/iPadOS 26 UIKit bugs related to UISearchController & UISearchBar using scope buttons
All of these issues appear when the search controller is set on the view controller's navigationItem and the search controller's searchBar has its scopeButtonTitles set. So far the following issues are affecting my app on iOS/iPadOS 26 as of beta 7: When the scopeBarActivation of UISearchController is set to .onSearchActivation, the preferredSearchBarPlacement of the navigationItem is set to .integratedButton, and the searchBarPlacementAllowsToolbarIntegration is set to false (forcing the search icon to appear in the nav bar), on both iPhones and iPads, the scope buttons never appear. They don't appear when the search is activated. They don't appear when any text is entered into the search bar. FB19771313 I attempted to work around that issue by setting the scopeBarActivation to .manual. I then show the scope bar in the didPresentSearchController delegate method and hide the scope bar in the willDismissSearchController. On an iPhone this works though the display is a bit clunky. On an iPad, the scope bar does appear via the code in didPresentSearchController, but when any scope bar button is tapped, the search controller is dismissed. This happens when the app is horizontally regular. When the app on the iPad is horizontally compact, the buttons work but the search bar's text is not correctly aligned within the search bar. Quite the mess really. I still need to post a bug report for this issue. But if issue 1 above is fixed then I don't need this workaround. When the scopeBarActivation of UISearchController is set to .onSearchActivation, the preferredSearchBarPlacement of the navigationItem is set to .stacked, and the hidesSearchBarWhenScrolling property of the navigationItem is set to false (always show the search bar), and this is all used in a UITableViewController, then upon initial display of the view controller on an iPhone or iPad, you are unable to tap on the first row of the table view except on the very bottom of the row. The currently hidden scope bar is stealing the touches. If you activate and then cancel the search (making the scope bar appear and then disappear) then you are able to tap on the first row as expected. The initially hidden scope bar also bleeds through the first row of the table. It's faint but you can tell it's not quite right. Again, this is resolved by activating and then canceling the search once. FB17888632 When the scopeBarActivation of UISearchController is set to .onSearchActivation, the preferredSearchBarPlacement of the navigationItem is set to integrated or .integratedButton, and the toolbar is shown, then on iPhones (where the search bar/icon appears in the toolbar) the scope buttons appear (at the top of the screen) the first time the search is activated. But if you cancel the search and then activate it again, the search bar never appears a second (or later) time. On an iPad the search bar/icon appears in the nav bar and you end up with the same issue as #1 above. FB17890125 Issues 3 and 4 were reported against beta 1 and still haven't been fixed. But if issue 1 is resolved on iPhone, iPad, and Mac (via Mac Catalyst), then I personally won't be affected by issues 2, 3, or 4 any more (but of course all 4 issues need to be fixed). And by resolved, I mean that the scope bar appears and disappears when it is supposed to each and every time the search is activated and cancelled (not just the first time). The scope bar doesn't interfere with touch events upon initial display of the view controller. And there are no visual glitches no matter what the horizontal size class is on an iPad. I really hope the UIKit team can get these resolved before iOS/iPadOS 26 GM.

Replacement for deprecated CLPlacemark.region?
Hello, I use CLGeocoder to get the CLLocationCoordinate2D and CLRegion for an address. Now that this is deprecated in OS 26, I don't see a replacement for that property on MKMapItem via MKMapItemRequest and PlaceDescriptor. I've filed FB19027378 on this issue. Basically I have some addresses that have a street address, and others that just have a city. With CLGeocoder, when geocoding just the city, the CLRegion was set such that I could show my map zoomed out just right. I'm not sure how to do that now. Thanks!

dropDestination does not work inside List
I've discovered an issue with using iOS 16's Transferable drag-and-drop APIs for SwiftUI. The dropDestination modifier does not work when applied to a subview of a List. This code below will not work, unless you replace the List with a VStack or any other container (which, of course, removes all list-specific rendering). Is this log noise? "CoreSVG: Error: NULL ref passed to getObjectCoreSVG: Error: NULL ref passed to getObject"
Before I waste time creating an Apple Developer Support ticket, I’m hoping an Apple DTS engineer can confirm if this is just log noise. After setting CORESVG_VERBOSE = YES, you’ll see: CoreSVG: Error: NULL ref passed to getObjectCoreSVG: Error: NULL ref passed to getObject This error only appears the first time Edit is tapped after a build and run. It won't happen again, even after force-quitting and reopening the app. The issue also only happens on iOS 18.0 and 18.1—I can’t reproduce it on iOS 17.5. Fortunately, it doesn’t seem to cause any negative side effects. Is this just log noise?

App Clip iMessage Sharing Not Working
We have been having problems with our app clip not working when sharing through iMessage. The app and app clip are published and work correctly when scanning a QR code that points to the URL: https://www.coderus.com/locations?loc=1 however if this same URL is shared through the iMessage app, a link to the website displays and not the app clip card. We have confirmed that: AASA file is available and has the type application/json Both devices are above iOS 14 Both devices are in each other's contacts The website has the meta tag for the smart app clip banner The website has a meta tag for the og:image Launch experiences have been configured on AppStoreConnect - as said before, the QR codes work correctly The link leads to a 404 page, I wasn't sure if there needs to be an actual page that the link points to as app clips seem to work fine without when scanning the QR code through the camera app.

iOS 26 regression: Slider does not respect step parameter
In iOS 26, the Slider control no longer respects the step parameter. Popping sound when running XCode simulator
Hello, im getting popping / crackling sounds from my Macbook Pro (M4 2024) speakers. This happens when you do many certain tasks like click buttons or toggling switches when xcode has a simulator open and any background audio is playing, like spotify. The speakers go crazy especially when starting the simulator in xcode with music in background. Ive tried: Using blackhole, and changing audio output in the simulator app Deleting both .plist files form preferences file. "coreaudiod" trick in terminal restarting many times different xcode versions and simulators and swift files Nothing has worked. Any help?

Request Review alert is unresponsive in iOS 26.1

It was always tappable in all iOS versions that I remember. And there is no way to opt out, unless the user taps on the stars first. Is it a bug or a feature? Thanks for looking into it!

UICollectionView Move Item Method Not Called in iOS 18
Summary In iOS 18, the UICollectionViewDelegate method collectionView(_:targetIndexPathForMoveOfItemFromOriginalIndexPath:atCurrentIndexPath:toProposedIndexPath:) is not being called when moving items in a UICollectionView. This method works as expected in iOS 17.5 and earlier versions. Steps to Reproduce Create a UICollectionView with drag and drop enabled. Unable to apply tinted glass effect to toolbar buttons in iOS 26
I'm trying to apply a tinted glass effect to toolbar buttons in iOS 26, similar to what was shown in the WWDC25 videos, but none of the approaches I've tried produce the translucent tinted glass effect. String catalogs in packages
We have separated much of our UI into different packages to reduce complexity and compile time. When we recently tested using new .xcstrings string catalogs, we hit an unexpected problem. Strings extracted from SwiftUI components like Text or Button are extracted into the Localizable.xcstrings in the same package, but the default behaviour of Text(_ key:tableName:bundle:comment:) is to use Bundle.main. When the default behaviour of the string extraction isn't to extract to the main app target, this introduces a very fragile system where it's easy to add code that looks localised, but ends up failing lookup at runtime. I don't feel comfortable that we will always remember to define the correct module every time we create a Text. Also, other components like Button doesn't have an init that takes a Bundle, so we would also have to remember that Button(_ titleKey:action:) can now only be used in a package if we make sure that the main bundle contains a matching key. Is there a way for us to make sure that strings are always extracted to the same place as they are resolved against by default? Either by having strings in packages extracted to an xcstrings file in the main app or having Text default to resolving against the module bundle by default?

App Clips don't work
We're building a UGC AR app and are leveraging App Clips to distribute AR experiences without app download. Since earlier this week, many of our users are reporting sharing experiences as App Clip doesn't work anymore. They are getting the message "AppClip unavailable" on a little card. We attached a QR code to try it yourself and a link to a different experience. We tried with multiple experiences and on multiple devices already. https://scenery.app/experience/1C925FDE-E49A-489B-BA14-58A4E532E645 Interestingly, we can't pinpoint the issue to an exact device or OS. We tested on many devices and on most, the AppClip is being displayed as unavailable, stating "App Clip unavailable", whereas it works on a few. It all worked fine last week (before September 12th). iPhone 13 Pro Max, iOS26: works iPhone SE, iOS 17: works iPhone 16 Pro, iOS 26: doesn't work iPhone 12 Pro Max, iOS 26: doesn't work iPhone 12 mini, iOS 18: does not work iPad 9th gen, iOS 26: doesn't work Please help. Swift Charts - weak scrolling performance
Hello there! I wanted to give a native scrolling mechanism for the Swift Charts Graph a try and experiment a bit if the scenario that we try to achieve might be possible, but it seems that the Swift Charts scrolling performance is very poor. The graph was created as follows: X-axis is created based on a date range, Y-axis is created based on an integer values between moreless 0-320 value. the graph is scrollable horizontally only (x-axis), The time range (x-axis) for the scrolling content was set to one year from now date (so the user can scroll one year into the past as a minimum visible date (.chartXScale). The X-axis shows 3 hours of data per screen width (.chartXVisibleDomain). The data points for the graph are generated once when screen is about to appear so that the Charts engine can use it (no lazy loading implemented yet). The line data points (LineMark views) consist of 2880 data points distributed every 5 minutes which simulates - two days of continuous data stream that we want to present. The rest of the graph displays no data at all. The performance result: The graph on the initial loading phase is frozen for about 10-15 seconds until the data appears on the graph. Scrolling is very laggy - the CPU usage is 100% and is unacceptable for the end users. If we show no data at all on the graph (so no LineMark views are created at all) - the result is similar - the empty graph scrolling is also very laggy. Currently, I use UIKit CollectionView where we split the graph into smaller chunks of the graph and we present the SwiftUI Chart content in the cells, so we use the scrolling offered there. I wonder if it's possible to use native SwiftUI for such a scenario so that later on we could also implement some kind of lazy loading of the data as the user scrolls into the past.

CIContext sporadically crashes on macOS 15.4/15.5, iOS 18.4/18.5
We have some rather old code that worked for many years, but recently started to crash sporadically here: The crash looks like this: or Our code is called from many threads concurrently, but as said it worked without any issues until recently. I've found the apparently same crash on iOS at this Reddit post: https://www.reddit.com/r/iOSProgramming/comments/1kle4h4/ios_185_doesnt_fix_cicontext_rendering_crash/ Recap: we believe it started on macOS 18.4 and is still on macOS 18.5. But maybe it was already on macOS 18.3. This matches the observation in the Reddit post well. Should we create a feedback with sysdiagnose? Thanks! :)

SwiftUI Slider will cause app to crash on macOS Tahoe RC
Hello, creating a simple-as-it-gets Slider in SwiftUI and then running that app on Mac Catalyst with the macOS idiom enabled, the app crashes: struct ContentView: View { @State private var sliderValue: Double = 0.4 var body: some View { VStack { Slider(value: $sliderValue) } .padding() } } running this will result in an exception: _setMinimumEnabledValue: is not supported on UISlider when running Catalyst apps in the Mac idiom. See UIBehavioralStyle for possible alternatives. This is obviously not ideal and also apparently no documented. Is there a workaround for this? isPressed is not reliable when Button is inside ScrollView
I opened a feedback ticket (FB16508762) but maybe someone in the community already found a workaround while the feedback reaches the maintainers. When I put a Button inside a ScrollView, the tap animation stops working reliably and works only when the user taps and holds the button for a short time. iOS 18 beta bug: NavigationStack pushes the same view twice
Hello, community and Apple engineers. I need your help. Our app has the following issue: NavigationStack pushes a view twice if the NavigationStack is inside TabView and NavigationStack uses a navigation path of custom Hashable elements. Our app works with issues in Xcode 18 Beta 13 + iOS 18.0. The same issue happened on previous beta versions of Xcode 18. The issue isn’t represented in iOS 17.x and everything worked well before iOS 18.0 beta releases. I was able to represent the same issue in a clear project with two simple views. I will paste the code below. Several notes: We use a centralised routing system in our app where all possible routes for navigation path are implemented in a View extension called withAppRouter(). We have a enum RouterDestination that contains all possible routes and is resolved in withAppRouter() extension. We use Router class that contains @Published var path: [RouterDestination] = [] and this @Published property is bound to NavigationStack. In the real app, we need to have an access to this path property for programmatic navigation purposes. It didn’t help. Using @State var path: [RouterDestination] = [] directly inside View seems to help. But it is not what we want as we need this property to be @Published and located inside Router class where we can get an access to it, and use for programmatic navigation if needed. I ask Apple engineers to help with that, please, and if it is a bug of iOS 18 beta, then please fix it in the next versions of iOS 18.0

`onTapGesture` not triggered on `Map` views
When building with iOS 26 SDK beta 5 (23A5308f), onTapGesture is no longer being triggered on Map views. This appears to be a regression in beta 5 specifically, as this issue was not present in beta 4.
