Hi everyone, My web application has two services: myapp.com and account.myapp.com. The first manages all app content, while the latter handles the authentication, with Sign In with Apple included. The tech stack is mainly composed of React, JS, and Express. We'd like to allow users to authenticate inside a dialog on some pages of myapp.com. To avoid replicating stuff from one service to another, we put an iframe inside the dialog to show the authentication standard page from account.myapp.com. Email and Facebook processes work fine, but we have the following issues with Sign in with Apple: On desktop, not Safari, a pop-up window opens when you click on the Apple button, and it works as expected. On desktop Safari, the pop-up window is blocked. We want the native Apple pop-up to show instead of a generic browser new window. On mobile, nothing happens on click Obviously, outside the iframe, everything works as expected. I can't seem to find anything related to an iframe constraint in the Sign in with Apple docs. Is this feasible?

I want to write an app, that lets users restore all oben windows and tabs from any given point in a TimeMachine backup. The store location seems to have changed. In earlier versions it was possible to restore the open windows and tabs by retrieving /Users/[UserName]/Library/Containers/com.apple.Safari/Data/Library/Safari/SafariTabs.db …/SafariTabs.db-shm …/SafariTabs.db-wal As of 18.3 this doesn’t work any more, even though these files get updated with the use of Safari What else would I need to retrieve from a back up disk? HI, please can someone help? I have a web app where push notifications are in place for Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. Providing the user allows notifications then when they log in for the first time their details are registered to the subscriptions table in the backend. All good so far. When trying to do the same with Safari on Mac I'm faced with this issue: "Safari doesn’t support invisible push notifications. Present push notifications to the user immediately after your service worker receives them. If you don’t, Safari revokes the push notification permission for your site." and the user is not registered in the subscription table with the Safari console just saying variations of this: [Warning] Notification permission denied. (notifications_frontend.js, line 177, x2) [Log] Enable Notifications button clicked (notifications_frontend.js, line 245) [Log] Safari Push Notifications detected (notifications_frontend.js, line 248) [Warning] Safari Push Permission denied. (notifications_frontend.js, line 278) I've found this on an another forrum: "Safari requires that you immediately post a notification when a push message is received. "Immediately" means that it cannot be after some async operation. If you display a notification immediately from the service worker itself, it will stop displaying that error. I cannot remember 100% but I think if you clear your cache and cookies you will be able to receive push messages again if you accidentally get blocked while testing." and I've tried adding buttons to trigger allowing notifications but it all seem to late to get the subscription registered in the subscription table. I'm pretty new to coding so if any has a similar experience and can advice how to get the subscriptions registered when the user logs on for the first time in Safari in a Mac it would be greatly appreciated. We have a Web Extension that uses firebase for auth. It was working fine until the latest version of Safari 18.3 got released few days ago on January 27, 2025. All of out extension versions stopped working on it; even the ones that are published on App Store. It uses FirebaseJS v9.23.0. Same version of the extension are working fine on other browsers. We use onAuthStateChanged to listen to auth related events; but it is never fired now.

My app sends users notifications of important messages in the app. How can I make sure the user receives them?

Is it a specification that the Service Worker doesn’t work in an internal iframe only when the parent page in a WebView is file://? It works in Mobile Safari under the same conditions, and we couldn’t find any specification that says Service Worker-like behavior doesn’t work with this combination. Step to reproduce: We use Vite to develop the application. For the iframe in Webview, Install vite-plugin-pwa with version ^0.20.5 Add VitePWA({...}) to plugins[] array in vite.config.ts Build and preview the app: npm run build && npm run preview. We open a Webview with file:// and then open the iframe with the URL to which we preview the app (We use ngrok to create the URL). Then we open Safari and inspect the Webview but inside the Developer > Service workers tab doesn’t have a registered service worker. For safari, we do the same step 1-3, We open Safari browser with the URL that we have deployed the app (The same URL we used in the iframe in Webview). We go inside the Developer > Service workers tab and it has a registered service worker. Environment: Simulator: IOS 18.2 Safari: MacOS 15.2 Expectation: Safari and the iframe in Webview should have a registered service worker inside the Developer > Service workers.

I'm a developer of Tab Finder (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/tab-finder/id6741719894) My problem is that every time i switch from my first window to a second window, the tabs in the validateToolbarItem() are INcorrect on a first call, but when I switch back from the second window to my main window, the tabs are CORRECT even on a first call. I'm building a share extension for my app when I noticed something weird. When I open a mobile URL (URLs with "m." like m.randomsite.org) on iOS using a browser (I'm using Safari & Chrome) and then try to share it, what will be share is the URL without the "m." (i.e. randomsite.org) This messes up with my app since I'm not getting the real URL that I'm viewing using the browser. I don't think it has something to do with my app since even selecting "Copy" when sharing will result in the altered URL too. So far this is happening on both iOS 17 and 18. Does someone know whether this is a bug from iOS or not? I don't think this is a Safari bug since I noticed the same thing on Chrome as well

Hi Apple Developer Community and Support, We are implementing Apple Pay on the Web and are encountering a persistent issue with merchant validation when the ApplePaySession is initiated from a JavaScript application running within a cross-origin iframe. Our Setup: Top-Level Domain: https://application.my.com/ (where the Apple Pay button is displayed, and the iframe is embedded) iFrame Content Origin: https://cashier.my.com/ (Our custom JavaScript application that handles the Apple Pay integration and directly calls our Payment Service Provider's (PSP) API for merchant validation). iFrame allow attribute: The iframe correctly includes allow="payment *". The Problem: When a user clicks the Apple Pay button, the ApplePaySession is successfully created and the Apple Pay sheet opens in Safari iOS. This suggests the browser recognizes the allow="payment *" attribute and allows the API calls. However, during the session.onvalidatemerchant callback, our JavaScript code makes a direct API call to our PSP (Nuvei)'s endpoint. This call consistently fails with an "Invalid domain name!" error, and the Apple Pay sheet then shows "Payment Not Completed." PSP's Diagnosis: Our PSP (Nuvei) has investigated and stated that for this specific endpoint (getAppleValidationApiFlow.do), "there is no explicit way to pass domain to the endpoint and domain for which session is issued is based on 'Referer' header." Our Question for Apple: Given that Safari 17+ now supports allow="payment" for cross-origin iframes to enable Apple Pay APIs, we have the following questions: What is Apple's official guidance or expectation regarding the Referer header for ApplePaySession.onvalidatemerchant calls when the ApplePaySession is instantiated from a cross-origin iframe? Is it expected that the Referer header for calls originating from the iFrame will always be the iFrame's origin? Does Apple's merchant validation process (when the PSP calls apple-pay-gateway.apple.com/paymentservices/startSession) itself rely on or interpret the Referer from the initial client-to-PSP call? Are there recommended best practices or standard approaches for PSP integrations in this cross-origin iFrame scenario to ensure the Referer validation (or equivalent domain validation) is correctly satisfied? We're trying to understand if our PSP's specific reliance on the Referer for this validation is a standard requirement implicitly set by Apple for this flow, or if there are other architectural approaches that should allow this scenario to work seamlessly. Hello everyone. I have a very strange behavior with smart app banners in Safari. When I don't have installed app on my phone, I can't see the banner on our product main page. When I installed the app, I can see the banner, which allows me to go directly to the app. When I put any other app's ID in the meta tag it works perfectly even if I don't have its installed app. So the code is right, what can be the reason of this behavior? Any settings of the app are required?

When a DNR rule is set for a specific URL and the request receives a server-side redirect (e.g., 302) to a different URL that does not match the urlFilter, the rule still seems to apply to the redirected request. We are using macOS 15.4 and Safari 18.4. For example, consider two sequential calls: call1 and call2. call1 triggers a 302 redirect to call2. A DNR rule is created to add a "Cookie" header to call1 based on its URL. Unexpectedly, the same cookie is also added to call2, even though call2's URL does not match the rule's urlFilter. This results in the Set-Cookie response from call1 being ignored, and call2 receiving the manually set cookie instead—leading to incorrect behavior. This issue doesn't occur in Chrome or Firefox, where the rule is not applied to the redirected request if the URL no longer matches. We are looking for assistance in fixing these issues and having our Safari Extension function the same as it does in Firefox and Chrome.

Hi there, I use the Clipboard API to create formatted project links with a "copy link" button. This has been really versatile for end users. When they paste into their email, they get a hyperlinked project name that leads to the project, and when they paste into the URL bar, they just get the project URL. It used to be that pasting into Messages on Mac would yield the same behavior as pasting into the URL bar. But recently, Messages started only pasting the inner text of the HTML clipboard, so no URL, just the project name, which isn’t very useful for a copy link function. Is there any way to ensure that Messages pastes the URL while maintaining my formatting options on other surfaces?

Hi everyone, I’m working on a Safari browser extension and recently encountered a major issue after transferring the extension from one Apple Developer account to another, then releasing an update under the new account. Following this update, user engagement has dropped off dramatically. My understanding—based on my own investigations, which may be limited—is that this problem arises because Safari is treating the extension as entirely new due to the change in the developer account. Here’s what I’ve pieced together so far: • Safari appears to rely on an Extensions.plist file, which uniquely identifies each installed extension by a combination of its bundle identifier and the associated developer account ID. • The Extensions.plist file also stores the state of granted permissions for each extension. Because our extension now has a new developer account ID, Safari no longer seems to recognize it as the same extension that users had previously approved. • As a result, previously granted permissions appear to have been lost, and users must manually re-enable the extension—leading to a significant drop in engagement and revenue. I’m hoping someone can clarify the following: Is there a known migration path to transfer an extension between developer accounts without causing users to lose their previously granted permissions? Are there best practices, or workarounds, for maintaining continuity when the bundle identifier and/or developer account ID changes? Are there any tools for re-linking permissions after a bundle identifier or developer account ID change? Has anyone worked through a similar scenario and found a solution or guidance from Apple Developer Support or the Safari team? All Safari interactions are done solely inside a SFSafariExtensionHandler . But now i'm considering adding some features from Google Chrome's Extension API like window switching. Is it possible to add a background.js worker to my existing Safari App Extension to have access to the beginRequest method override inside SFSafariExtensionHandler? Without converting my extension from Safari App Extension to Safari Web Extenion?

We’re encountering an issue when trying to add non-standard headers to outgoing requests using Declarative Net Request (DNR) rules in our Safari Web Extension. Tested on macOS 15.4 with Safari 18.4. Specifically, when attempting to add a custom header such as "X-Custom-Header" using a DNR rule, the header does not appear in the request. We are able to add standard headers like "Authorization" and "Cookie" to the request successfully using the same method. This behavior suggests that Safari may be filtering or blocking non-standard headers when set via DNR rules, unlike other browsers. In Chrome and Firefox, the same rule adds the "X-Custom-Header" header without any issue. We are looking for assistance in fixing these issues and having our Safari Extension function the same as it does in Firefox and Chrome.

Hi, I'm here to Report a Problem with the IOS 18.3 UPDATE. So, when i Download a file, any file. The Download Progress has no problems, but when the download complete, Nothing happens it just keeps the blue line of the download, and then I can’t open that file…this only happened to me when i downloaded the IOS 18.3… hope it'll be fixed ASAP.
