When CHIPS was introduced in 18.4 it worked well, however on 18.5 it does not appear to work. There do not appear to be release notes about this in 18.5, so can someone provide definitive if this is a defect that will be fixed, or have they already been deprecated?

Hi there,
I have a popular open source app called Foqos. What I'm finding in iOS 26 (might even effect older versions) is that when using the webcontent api within Managed settings as the following:
store.webContent.blockedByFilter = .specific(domains)
It doesn't work on Safari, but does work on third party applications like chrome, firefox, etc.
But when using the all and exception enum like the following
store.webContent.blockedByFilter = .all(except: domains)
This does work on Safari
This is pretty inconsistent behavior of the API and should be fixed to match the documentation. Documentation does not mention anything about Safari limitations
Again source code is open: https://github.com/awaseem/foqos
You can run the app yourself and find the same issues. Is anyone else experiencing this?
I am a newby to JavaScript, suggested to me to use to automate the task of opening of a Web page, selecting three internal buttons in sequence to download the underlying chart data.
I have created the App via Automator on macOS, to run the Script, successfully open the Web Page, but cannot find a way to select and click() on the buttons.
Can someone please help me.
Robert.
This is the code suggested by Grok 3 Beta, but I see this error:
Error: First parameter passed to Document Constructor must be an object.
function run(input, parameters) {
var Safari = Application('Safari');
Safari.activate();
// Open the AEMO data dashboard (Grok 3 Beta recomendation opens the web page correctly)
Safari.Document().make();
Safari.windows[0].currentTab.url = 'https://www.aemo.com.au/energy-systems/electricity/national-electricity-market-nem/data-nem/data-dashboard-nem';
delay(10); // Wait for page to load
// Click the Fuel Mix tab (target the active in the tabs)
Safari.Document(0).doJavaScript("document.querySelector('.tabs .active').click()");

How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url in wkwebview for authentication purpose?
I have an extension which was working fine on older Safari version, but it is getting killed after I upgraded the browser to Safari 18 and higher.
From the system logs I could see, Safari is sending the KILL signal to my browser

Hello,
Recently, there is an issue in my service that after typing korean at input element, first click event is not working.
But i knew that other services are also having same problem.
It happens only on Safari.
Could you guys check this issue?
Thank you.
TLDR: I’m searching for a possibility to allow the usage of passkeys and hardware keys for any website in a wkwebview
INFO: The browser is macOS ONLY
Hi, I couldn’t really find documentation or forums posts on how to implement Webauthn for signin or hardware security keys for a second factor. Or rather where those events are triggered to be handled. In Safari you have that popover, that lets you either authenticate through Passwords or with a security key.
When I visit webauthn.io for testing and click either register or authenticate I get
Told not to present authorization sheet: Error Domain=com.apple.AuthenticationServicesCore.AuthorizationError Code=1 "(null)"
ASAuthorizationController credential request failed with error: Error Domain=com.apple.AuthenticationServices.AuthorizationError Code=1004 "(null)"
If I add
func webView(_ webView: WKWebView, didReceive challenge: URLAuthenticationChallenge, completionHandler: @escaping @MainActor (URLSession.AuthChallengeDisposition, URLCredential?) -> Void)
and
func webView(_ webView: WKWebView, authenticationChallenge challenge: URLAuthenticationChallenge, shouldAllowDeprecatedTLS decisionHandler: @escaping @MainActor (Bool) -> Void)
it doesn’t seem to change anything.
I found something about the ASWebAuthenticationSessionWebBrowserSupported entitlement, but by my understanding this is used so a browser can get opened upon some other app calling a ASWebAuthenticationSession.
Has anyone some guidance for me? I feel like webauthn and yubikey support are important security measures for our users.

I'm looking for answer or documentation on gatekeeper and launching a MacOS app via a url scheme/custom protocol.
Our application is delivered via a zip file downloaded from the web. We utilize a url scheme. The act of extracting the app from the zip registers the url scheme with the OS.
From previous research/testing we found we had to break the gatekeeper lock (have the user move the app from the downloaded location) to ensure that the url is honored on first launch of the application. To ensure user compliance, we added a check to make sure that the lock has been removed by looking at the quarantine attribute.
This flow is not ideal. I am looking for alternatives and was previously under the impression that if we were to move to a DMG then that would provide the user a better user experience for moving it. However, now that I am getting
around to looking into it, I am seeing some implied statements that this is not the case and that the quarantine bit will just be moved from the DMG to the app.
Questions:
Does a DMG allow the app to be launched via custom protocol without prior launch or movement?
With a notarized app, will the custom protocol work on a subsequent launch, even without prior movement?

Whenever I make a safari view controller on XCode26 Beta 5, there appears to be a blurry white overlay overtop the controller. This worked fine in XCode26 Beta 2, with no code differences.
Anyone have any suggestions?
I have a simple Safari extension which contains only Javascript and no native code.
Currently I have the placeholder SafariWebExtensionHandler.swift that Xcode created when I added the extension. It's not doing anything useful, but simply deleting it doesn't seem to work.
Can I have an extension that includes no native code?
When configuring a Per-App VPN payload with 250+ Safari domains under a managed app, the VPN does not trigger for the other managed apps(like chrome etc). However, the same VPN successfully starts and works when used with Safari. Reducing the number of Safari domains in the VPN payload resolves the issue, allowing the VPN to trigger for the managed app as expected.
Has anyone else faced this issue, and what's the workaround for it?
I have a web extension that I want to send data to, and receive a response containing modified data.
My understanding is that the native app is only contactable by a background script. How does a webpage contact the background script?
One answer is by adding a content script, which is able to communicate with the background script using browser.native.sendMessage(). Unfortunately this triggers a warning that "this extension can read and alter web pages".
I do not want to read and alter web pages, nor do I want users to be concerned about a permission the app doesn't need. I just want to receive data, and then return a response.
What API should I be using to achieve this?
Hello,
I'm using Safari 18.2 on Sonoma 14.6.1.
I was using the Developer Tools to do a Local Request Override in the Source tab for a CSS file that had a changing query string. I thought I had a good regular expression to catch all variants, but apparently it was too generic and possibly wrong, and made both Source and Network tabs no longer work in my Safari.
The regular expression I entered for the Local Request Override was: //build/style.css(?.*)?$
Now my dev tools is broken to the extent that the Source and Network tabs no longer work. The slide-out panel on Source that shows Breakpoints, LocalOverrides, etc no longer shows. The toggle for it does, but does nothing now. UI in general looks a little wack on both tabs.
So, since I can't turn off the Local Request Override, I've been trying to locate where Safari may have stored it to manually delete it. Not having a lot of luck on that front.
It seems to me that Safari was unable to escape my regular expression correctly and it then causes additional issue. Just a guess though.
Any advice or help in getting Safari Source & Network working again / manual removal of the LocalOverride would be greatly appreciated. I'm fluent in OSX and Linux, but grep was not much help surfacing anything that worked.
Thanks in Advance, possibly a Safari bug as well.
I have a Safari extension that plays audio via the javascript AudioContext API. It was working fine under iOS 17 and is now broken under iOS 18. It does not play audio at all.
I've tried in both the iOS 18 public beta and the iOS 18.1 developer beta. It is broken in both of them.
I've also created Feedback item FB15170620 which has a url attached to a page I created which demonstrates the issue.
The order nor -webkit-order properties of a child element of a flex parent dosen't work in Safari 18.3.
Works correctly in FireFox and Chrome.

We have a JavaScript api that queries our Secure Browser to get the network information – signal strength, network name, plugged in/wifi. Everything worked fine through the Tahoe betas, still does. Now we are getting on the network name and this is breaking our UI. Was this an intentional change or a bug? The other two properties still appear to be working. And it works in all lower MacOS versions.
We are currently obtaining it through AppleScript
try
set ssid to do shell script "system_profiler SPAirPortDataType | awk '/Current Network Information:/ {getline; sub(/^ +/, ""); sub(/:$/, ""); print}'"
if ssid is equal to "" then
return "Not connected to any Wi-Fi network."
else
return ssid
end if
on error errMsg
return "Error: " & errMsg
end try

On iOS 18 only, I've been getting this error from the didFailToContinueUserActivityWithType in AppDelegate, the activity needed for universal links. It didn't happen on previous versions of it.
Has anyone encountered this ?
I'm converting a Chrome Extension to a Safari Web Extension, I found it's not easy to get favicon of current tab/url natively.
The tab object in Safari doesn't have favIconUrl.

2. I didn't find Safari has similar thing like chrome://favicon
3. I found Safari's favicon caches in ~/Library/Safari/Favicon Cache/favicons but have no idea how to use them in Safari Web Extension.
When you open the Directorate General of civil Aviation, India website then in the top bar bring the cursor to “Regulations and Guidance” under that there will be a drop down which will give numerous options. In that go to Centre Column “Civil Aviation Requirements”. Then click on ”Section 7” then click on “Part II”. Actually on a laptop it’s a 4 page document but on my iPad it’s just an image of the first page. I can’t read any of the PDF’s.

Up until some point relatively recently, I have been able to use Safari's web inspector to connect to the iOS simulator in order to debug our web application in development at http://localhost:8088.
Now, the web inspector still OPENS, but it opens in a broken state. The context is available to select from Safari's "Develop" menu: Develop > "iPhone 16 Pro (Simulator)" > "localhost - login". It appears under the Safari heading if I have navigated to the web app in the browser, or under the Expo heading if I am accessing it through the webview in our React Native wrapper app. When I select it, the web inspector window does appear.
However, once it opens, the Elements pane is empty, the Console pane is empty, expressions entered into the console are not evaluated, there's no content in Sources, Network, Storage, etc.
Important notes:
This broken state happens at http://localhost:8088 as well as http://127.0.0.1:8088, and it seems that the insecure context is the issue.
The web inspector DOES work for HTTPS sites. If I navigate to, e.g., https://example.com in the simulator and connect the web inspector, everything works fine.
The web inspector also works fine in Safari on macOS (OUTSIDE the simulator) when accessing non-HTTPS sites. It's only a problem for non-HTTPS sites when connecting to the simulator.
A coworker has the same problem, so it is not isolated to my machine.
I would enable TLS locally as a workaround, but this web app is very complex, and I know from experience that it is very difficult for various reasons to set it up properly for our project in development, and it will take significant non-trivial work to do so.
So... Why is this happening? Is this expected behavior? Is there a way that I can debug my site on localhost without HTTPS?
