Install Safari Extension fails with "Unable to download App" and "Operation not permitted" in log
We have a Safari extension that's been up on the App Store for about 18 months with no apparent issues. This week, however, while working on an update, we uninstalled the production version on our test machines and installed a developer version. When we had some issues, we tried to go back to the production version downloaded from the App Store, but we get an pop saying "Unable to download App." In the log, the most obviously relevant error is 'Operation not permitted'. This occurs on several machines and different logins on those machines in both norma and safe modes. However, on another machine that never had one installed, we could still install the app from the app store, so I suspect there is something left behind that needs to be removed, but I don't know what. FWIW, I see the download directory getting created under /Applications, but it is promptly removed when the failure popup appears. Any suggestions?

LocalOverride Request regular expression broke dev tools
Hello, I'm using Safari 18.2 on Sonoma 14.6.1. I was using the Developer Tools to do a Local Request Override in the Source tab for a CSS file that had a changing query string. I thought I had a good regular expression to catch all variants, but apparently it was too generic and possibly wrong, and made both Source and Network tabs no longer work in my Safari. The regular expression I entered for the Local Request Override was: //build/style.css(?.*)?$ Now my dev tools is broken to the extent that the Source and Network tabs no longer work. The slide-out panel on Source that shows Breakpoints, LocalOverrides, etc no longer shows. The toggle for it does, but does nothing now. UI in general looks a little wack on both tabs. So, since I can't turn off the Local Request Override, I've been trying to locate where Safari may have stored it to manually delete it. Not having a lot of luck on that front. It seems to me that Safari was unable to escape my regular expression correctly and it then causes additional issue. Just a guess though. Any advice or help in getting Safari Source & Network working again / manual removal of the LocalOverride would be greatly appreciated. I'm fluent in OSX and Linux, but grep was not much help surfacing anything that worked. Thanks in Advance, possibly a Safari bug as well.

WKWebView occasionally shows white screen and persists until app restart
I am encountering an intermittent issue with WKWebView in my iOS app. The problem occurs infrequently, but when it does, the WKWebView consistently displays a white screen and remains in this state until the app is forcefully terminated and relaunched. To provide more context, here are the key characteristics of the issue: The white screen problem occurs sporadically and is not easily reproducible. The WKWebView remains unresponsive despite attempts to interact with it. Reloading the webpage or navigating to a different URL does not resolve the white screen issue. The problem persists until the app is terminated and relaunched. This issue is specific to the WKWebView; other components of the app function correctly. The WKWebView renders normally, and the main document synchronously loads resources both offline and online without any issues. The bridge and JavaScript execution also work as expected. However, when interacting with the WKWebView, it becomes unresponsive to user clicks, and the web inspector fails to respond. Additionally, asynchronous network requests also do not receive any response. The problem occurs exclusively on HTTPS pages, whereas HTTP pages load without any issues. Other components, such as workers, function correctly. addUserScript injection during WKWebView creation is effective, and evaluateJavaScript during the page loading process works as expected. However, when the document becomes unresponsive, executing evaluateJavaScript only triggers the callback after the WKWebView is destroyed. I have discovered a reliable method to reproduce the white screen issue in WKWebView. This method involves the following steps and conditions: Create a WKWebView instance. Load an HTML page using the loadRequest method(https url request). Before the WKWebView is attached to the UI (not yet visible to the user), call the evaluateJavaScript function. This issue has occurred in almost all iOS versions, including the latest iOS 17.x version.

iOS 18.4 is crashing the apps using service workers
After updating to iOS 18.4, our web application (with service workers) crashes on devices that accessed it prior to the update. This issue also affects hybrid mobile apps using the same web application; reinstalling the app resolves it by refetching and reinstalling service workers. Debugging is challenging because clearing the cache or reinstalling the app fixes the problem, and no useful error logs are available. Has anyone encountered similar crashes related to service workers after an iOS update and have any insights into the cause?

Declarative Web Push
Anybody succeeded sending a Web Push Message using the new Declarative approach introduced with Safari Version 18.4 (20621.1.14.11.3)? I will help as well if someone can point me to a solution debugging the entire system using Xcode and Minibrowser? Currently I can't get the MiniBrowser connected to the WebPush Daemon.

HTMLAudioElement on iOS is paused when video plays again
On iOS (iPhone or iPad) the following behaviour happens: when both an HTML video element and an HTML audio element are playing on a page, and the video source ends, and the video source is programmatically forced to play again then the system will automatically pause the audio. See following stackblitz project for a sample: https://stackblitz.com/edit/ios-audio-paused-on-video-playing?file=README.md Steps to reproduce Feel free to try with both another audio and video source, here limited by the available space in Stackblitz plan. On an iPhone/iPad device or simulator, in Safari: browse to index.html when on iPhone, press iPhone Load to force preloading video. Not needed on iPad press Play to start playing both audio and video wait until clip ends and then restarts from 0:00 Expected Audio should keep on playing and eventually loop. Actual When clip restarts from 0, audio is put to pause by the system. Further details This does not happen e.g. on Mac Safari nor on another device/browser. Also, some alternative scenarios: when HTML video element has the muted attribute, the issue disappears and audio is not paused when HTML audio element is replace with Web Audio API, the issue disappears and audio is not paused

HELP!Apple Pay Web application cannot pay due to the bottom rotation issue
I built a web application using the Apple Pay on the Web Interactive Demo with the Payment Request API, but encountered a few issues: The initiated web Apple Pay interface shows a spinning circle at the bottom and cannot proceed with payment(Bottom display:正在处理). What could be causing this? How to set up sandbox testing for payments? How to asynchronously and synchronously retrieve payment results (backend code to fetch payment results)? The demo only shows frontend code using await response.complete("success"); for retrieving payment results my demo URL: https://shop.wowseer.com/rsolomakhin/pr/applepay/

Unexpected Behavior: PointerEvents do not permit simultaneous pencil and multitouch at the same time. Discussing Workarounds
For many years, I've noticed that although in native code I can handle continuous and simultaneous Apple pencil and touch inputs using UIKit, Safari and WKWebView's PointerEvents only seem to allow you to use one input type at a time. i.e. Apple Pencil down blocks touch input until lifted and touch input blocks Apple Pencil input. It's as though requiresexclusivetouchtype has been set in the underlying webkit implementation. There's decades of research (e.g. https://dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/1866029.1866036 ) and several existing native applications in production showing that multimodal inputs open-up many unique and useful applications and interactions. Even a simple "hold object with finger" + "draw with stylus" controls are the norm. I recently built a native application using multimodal simultaneous inputs, but this is impossible to port to web due to the unexpected behavior of PointerEvents (and touch events, and mouse events; any variant exhibits the same behavior). I've researched and attempted to apply every possible flag, change, and css code to get this working, but I think the behind-the-scenes implementation is what's blocking the simultaneous touch types. This is unexpected and undesired behavior because it's inconsistent with the native behavior. If it's unintended, it's a big priority to fix for creating better user experiences on the iPad. If it's intended, I do not believe that's reasonable (even if it might be more complex and used for more advanced applications). Please expose a way to support simultaneous touch types in iPadOS/iOS in both Safari and WKWebView. At minimum, may we have a discussion on how to support the desired behavior? The simplest solution I can think of is to provide a webkit-platform-specific boolean in Safari and WKWebView called requiresExclusiveTouchType, which is set to False by default to keep the current behavior, and settable to True to get the more flexible behavior I'm expecting.

Apple Pay on the Web fails with an "AbortError" in production
Apple Pay fails with an "AbortError" when the dialog for the fingerprint sensor opens. How do I find the cause of the "AbortError" which only occurs in the web integration in our production environment? In the sandbox environment, Apple Pay works flawlessly. This concerns a web integration of Apple Pay using the Apple Pay SDK, one version before 1.2.0. The error occurs when I call the show() method on the PaymentRequest object. The Apple Pay dialog opens with the fingerprint icon, but after one second, an exclamation mark appears, and the Apple Pay dialog closes again while throwing the "AbortError". I know that our Apple Pay integration worked for multiple customers in the production environment already. The current problem is that Apple's error message, called "AbortError," provides no indication of the cause. This could be greatly improved. One affected customer, for example, is the one with the Merchant ID … (Is it safe to post a Merchant ID in this forum?) I can reproduce the "AbortError" issue at any time using my iPhone with iOS 16.7.8.

Add Authorization header to WKWebView
How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url in wkwebview for authentication purpose?

Apple Messages strips URL from HTML clipboard
Hi there, I use the Clipboard API to create formatted project links with a "copy link" button. This has been really versatile for end users. When they paste into their email, they get a hyperlinked project name that leads to the project, and when they paste into the URL bar, they just get the project URL. It used to be that pasting into Messages on Mac would yield the same behavior as pasting into the URL bar. But recently, Messages started only pasting the inner text of the HTML clipboard, so no URL, just the project name, which isn’t very useful for a copy link function. Is there any way to ensure that Messages pastes the URL while maintaining my formatting options on other surfaces?

Redirecting to an app's universal link from and app extension popup
I have a simple Safari extension for iOS. In its popup, I want a button that will open the app via a universal link. I have this kind-of working, except that Safari opens the actual online destination of the link with a banner at the top saying "Open in the XXXX app" and an OPEN button. What do I have to do to go directly to the app? More generally, I know that if I copy-and-paste a universal link into the Safari address bar, Safari does the same thing - but it does go directly to the app from an <a href="...."> link. In my app extension JavaScript, I set window.location. Presumably this is too similar to pasting into the address bar. Is there some alternative to setting window.location that is more like clicking on a link and will go directly to the universal link's app? Thanks.

Differences between Safari App extension and Safari Web extension.
I tried to create a content blocker for Safari and did it through Safari App Extension and Safari Web Extension. The XCode project for Safari Extension creates 2 applications: the “Main Application” (which is compiled into ".app") and the “Safari Extension” itself (which is compiled into ".appex"). If you want to create a content blocker, you must add “Content Blocker Extension” from the “File → New → Target” menu. This will be the third application in the group, which is also compiled into "*.appex". And now about differences... The first difference is that Web Extension does not have the right to work on any domains by default, unlike App Extension. For the App Extension, in the "info.plist" in the "SFSafariWebsiteAccess" section, we can remove "Allowed Domains" and in "Level" replace "Some" to "All". This is important because the content blocker should work on any domain, and not be turned on manually for each individual. This will not work in Web Extension and will have to be activated for each domain separately. The second significant difference between Web Extension and App Extension is that for security reasons it is more limited in page management. Web Extensions are supposedly focused on a common API for all browsers (Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Edge, Safari), but if I use Safari and want maximum integration with it, then I don't care about all those browsers. In this case, I don't need Web Extension. App Extension functions as a client-server even within the “Main Application”. This is quite expensive and can be fixed. You can remove the “webView” component from storyBoard and remove this files: “script.js”, “main.html”, “style.css”. After this you will get the pure storyBoard without any tinsel and communication between these layers. That’s will work perfectly because these are native Swift applications. p.s. To show the "Safari Extension" window after clicking on the icon on the toolbar, you need to change key from "Command" to "Popover" in the "info.plist" in the section "SFSafariToolbarItem" in the "Action". write your additions...

Issue with Copy Functionality in WKWebView Using Mac Catalyst
Hello, I am developing a Mac application via Mac Catalyst and encountering an issue with WKWebView. Specifically, I'm loading a webpage (e.g., https://translate.google.com) in WKWebView, but when I press the copy button on the page, the content doesn't actually copy to the clipboard. I've attempted modifying the UserAgent without any success. Here is the relevant part of my code: override func viewDidLoad() { super.viewDidLoad() let config = WKWebViewConfiguration() config.preferences = WKPreferences() config.defaultWebpagePreferences.preferredContentMode = .desktop let webView = WKWebView(frame: .zero, configuration: config) webView.translatesAutoresizingMaskIntoConstraints = false view.addSubview(webView) webView.scrollView.showsVerticalScrollIndicator = false webView.backgroundColor = UIColor.white webView.scrollView.backgroundColor = UIColor.white webView.leadingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.leadingAnchor).isActive = true webView.topAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.topAnchor).isActive = true webView.trailingAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.trailingAnchor).isActive = true webView.bottomAnchor.constraint(equalTo: view.bottomAnchor).isActive = true if let url = URL(string: "https://translate.google.com") { let req = URLRequest(url: url) webView.load(req) } }
