Smart App Banner not appearing
I'm trying to set up a smart app banner for my app, but it doesn't appear on the website when I try to test it. I have the meta tag on my website: <meta name="apple-itunes-app" content="app-id=6740216045" /> When I inspect the website, I can see that the meta tag is showing up in the head, but the banner is nowhere to be found. I tried clearing website data but still no dice.

Firebase Auth.onAuthStateChanged stopped working on latest version of Safari (18.3)
We have a Web Extension that uses firebase for auth. It was working fine until the latest version of Safari 18.3 got released few days ago on January 27, 2025. All of out extension versions stopped working on it; even the ones that are published on App Store. It uses FirebaseJS v9.23.0. Same version of the extension are working fine on other browsers. We use onAuthStateChanged to listen to auth related events; but it is never fired now.

WKWebview Domain Limit
Hi everyone, We're facing a challenge with Apple's WKWebView and its WKAppBoundDomains limit. Our web app is hosted across multiple dedicated domains to ensure security and isolation for our customers. Additionally, we rely on a service worker to provide offline functionality within our app. To enable the service worker in our WebView app, we must specify the domains within the app-bound domains list. The issue we're encountering is the 10-domain limit, which is restrictive since our app needs to support access to more than 10 domains. Has anyone found a workaround for this limitation? Or does Apple provide any exceptions to this rule if a strong case is presented? We’d greatly appreciate any insights or experiences you can share. Thanks in advance!

Unable to Launch Safari Driver
I am encountering an issue where we are unable to run or launch Safari Driver in our automation tests using macOS. When attempting to run safaridriver -p 8888 from the terminal, we receive the following error message: ERROR: safaridriver could not launch because it is not configured correctly or you need to authenticate. Re-run safaridriver(1) and pass the '--enable' flag to configure and/or authenticate. For more information, consult the safaridriver(1) man page. Despite running sudo safaridriver --enable as an administrator (even as root), the issue persists. I’ve searched through various online forums and GitHub repositories but couldn’t find a working solution. Some references are: Apple Developer Forum Thread: https://forums.developer.apple.com/forums/thread/762321 GitHub Issue: https://github.com/SeleniumHQ/selenium/issues/11381

Safari web extension service worker not working after a minute
We are testing our safari web extension (https://apps.apple.com/us/app/whatfix-for-jnj-centris/id6723895659) on an iPad 7th Gen (iPadOS v - 17.4.1) I am sharing a video link where you can see the widget (named Self Help) appears on the application. However after a couple of refreshes, it vanishes. This widget is powered by the extension. We tried connecting the iPad to Mac and opened the webinspector. The extension content script sends a message to the service worker and it is expected to send back a response which it is not doing We believe it is related to an issue that has been highlighted multiple times in the developer forum - https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/758346 We have tried using several workaorunds as suggested by peer developers in the thread but we are unable to revive the service worker once it is killed. We would like to understand from you, how to recover from this issue. Is there any workaround that we can apply to make sure that extension works fine? It would be immensely helpful if we can get on a call to explain the issue further Video Link: https://www.icloud.com/iclouddrive/0a7NR7BzDQHHU8zCHERuySBMw#RPReplay%5FFinal1740034010

Unable to Open HTTP Site B from HTTP Site A in WKWebView – Stuck on Spinning Wheel (Xcode 15.2 and above, VPN Enabled, Cross-Domain)
After upgrading to Xcode 15.2 or above(Till Xcode 16.2), users are unable to open Site B (HTTP URL) from Site A (HTTP URL) within our Browser app when loaded in WKWebView. Clicking the link to Site B results in a spinning wheel, but the site does not load. This issue is not present when the app is built with Xcode 15.0.1. Additionally: Users are connected to a VPN, which is required to access the sites. Site A and Site B are on different domains (cross-domain request). Expected Behavior: Clicking the link to Site B should successfully load the site with user information passed from Site A. Current Behavior: Clicking the link results in a spinning wheel, but Site B does not load inside WKWebView. Technical Details: Both Site A and Site B use HTTP (not HTTPS). Site A and Site B have different domains (cross-domain request). Do not use location.href for transitions. Instead, we temporarily set about:blank in an iframe and then submit data via a form to the target system’s URL within the iframe. This approach worked in Xcode 15.0.1 but fails in Xcode 15.2 or above. Users are connected to a VPN, which is required to access the sites. WKWebview is not receiving navigation delegate callback for Site B Steps to Reproduce: Ensure the device is connected to a VPN. Open the app (using WKWebView) built with Xcode 15.2 or above. Load Site A (HTTP) within the app in WKWebView. Click the link to Site B (HTTP), which should open in an iframe. Observe that a spinning wheel appears, but Site B does not load. Environment: Xcode Versions Affected: 15.2 or above (issue present), 15.0.1 (no issue) iOS Version: All iOS versions Devices: iPad Questions: Has there been any change in WKWebView’s handling of HTTP URLs or VPN-related network traffic in Xcode 15.2? Are there any new security policies, iframe restrictions, or VPN-related changes in this version that might be affecting this behavior? Request for Assistance: Can you confirm if this is a known issue or an intended change? Are there any workarounds available?

The top of the body pages on my website is cut off on ios
Hello, When I view my website (lasaluade) on iphone or ipad the top of my page bodies are cut off (3-4 first lines). However, on PC, Mac or Android everything is OK (see screenshots). For the record, I built this site with Wordpress and Divi Builder, and I've the same result on Safari and Chrome. Not being a developer, I don't know where to look (I just think it's iOS-related). Have you already had this problem? Do you have any ideas? Thanks for your help!

When loading a .webarchive in WKWebView does it handle local storage differently in iOS 18?
I have multiple web views of the same domain that share the same local storage, as expected. One of them though, is loading a .webarchive file. The web archive is of the same domain, and is loaded using the same base URL. For some reason, in most cases, the local storage is not shared with this web view when loading the web archive, although if I make that same web view load the actual live web page it does share local storage. I say in most cases, because for some users it works as expected, but for a significant portion of users it isn't sharing local storage. I think that the main difference between working and not is iOS version. iOS 17 seems to be able to share the local storage but iOS 18 does not. I can't find anything related in the release notes of iOS 18 versions. There is nothing in the documentation for load(_:mimeType:characterEncodingName:baseURL:), or the header file, that explains anything specific about local storage and webarchive loading. Does anyone know for sure how local storage is handled when a webarchive is loaded into a web view, and did something change with iOS 18 in regards to this?

Push subscribe error User denied push permission
Hi, I am developing the Click & Read web add-on for Chromium, Firefox and Safari. We use xcrun safari-web-extension-converter tool to generate the Safari add-on, with up-to-date MacBook MacOS, Xcode et Safari : Sequoia 15.3.2, Safari Version 18.3.1 (20620.2.4.11.6), XCode Version 16.0 (16A242d). We have updated our addon to Manifest v3, having the Background script as Server Worker "background": { "service_worker": "background.js", "type": "module" } self.addEventListener("activate", (event) => { console.info("Service Worker activated", event); event.waitUntil( self.registration.pushManager .subscribe({ userVisibleOnly: true, applicationServerKey: urlBase64ToUint8Array( process.env.VAPID_PUBLIC_KEY ), }) .then(async (subscription) => { console.info("[Service Worker] Extension is subscribed to push"); const { subscription: savedSubscription } = await getLocalStorageKeyData("subscription"); if (savedSubscription) fetchApi({ url: `${API_SERVER_URL}/subscription/remove/${savedSubscription.keys.auth}`, }); // Remove previous subscription from server on addon activate currentBrowser.storage.local.set({ subscription: subscription.toJSON(), }); // Save subscription in local storage currentBrowser.runtime.setUninstallURL( `${API_SERVER_URL}/subscription/remove/${ subscription.toJSON().keys.auth }` ); // Set uninstall URL to remove notification subscription on addon uninstall fetchApi({ url: `${API_SERVER_URL}/subscription`, reqInit: { body: JSON.stringify(subscription.toJSON()), method: "POST", headers: { "Content-Type": "application/json", }, }, }); }) .catch((error) => { console.error("Push subscribe error: ", error); }) // Subscribe to push notifications ); }); When trying to subscribe the addon instance to our Push server, we get this error : Push subscribe error: NotAllowedError: User denied push permission Our NodeJS backend is using the web-push librabry : https://github.com/web-push-libs/web-push) to save subscriptions and make notifications push. By looking for same errors on forums, the best hint I found is that it could be related to the testing is done on localhost (addon is built from XCode onto Safari, and Push server is running on localhost). Thanks for your help !

Issue with Declarative Net Request Rule (DNR) Persistence Across Redirects in Safari
When a DNR rule is set for a specific URL and the request receives a server-side redirect (e.g., 302) to a different URL that does not match the urlFilter, the rule still seems to apply to the redirected request. We are using macOS 15.4 and Safari 18.4. For example, consider two sequential calls: call1 and call2. call1 triggers a 302 redirect to call2. A DNR rule is created to add a "Cookie" header to call1 based on its URL. Unexpectedly, the same cookie is also added to call2, even though call2's URL does not match the rule's urlFilter. This results in the Set-Cookie response from call1 being ignored, and call2 receiving the manually set cookie instead—leading to incorrect behavior. This issue doesn't occur in Chrome or Firefox, where the rule is not applied to the redirected request if the URL no longer matches. We are looking for assistance in fixing these issues and having our Safari Extension function the same as it does in Firefox and Chrome.

Apple Pay Third party browsers - completeMerchantValidation fails
I've a apple pay integration on my website. The new sdk, that allows third party browsers. My integration works well everywhere, except on third party when I read the QR code it results in a "payment incomplete". I have gone through several threads in apple dev forums, and several guides on implementation steps and troubleshooting. But I'm still without solution. When Debugging in iOS device I get: "Application failed to provide a valid merchant session. We can't proceed to authorize the transaction." I've doublechecked, the values I send to create the payment Session are correct, the domain and merchantIds. (It works well with the same implementation on safari, what's the difference here?) I've also doublechecked the values i'm sending to the completeMerchantValidation, and they are all in the right format and types. What else can iIcheck?

Redirecting to an app's universal link from and app extension popup
I have a simple Safari extension for iOS. In its popup, I want a button that will open the app via a universal link. I have this kind-of working, except that Safari opens the actual online destination of the link with a banner at the top saying "Open in the XXXX app" and an OPEN button. What do I have to do to go directly to the app? More generally, I know that if I copy-and-paste a universal link into the Safari address bar, Safari does the same thing - but it does go directly to the app from an <a href="...."> link. In my app extension JavaScript, I set window.location. Presumably this is too similar to pasting into the address bar. Is there some alternative to setting window.location that is more like clicking on a link and will go directly to the universal link's app? Thanks.

Add Authorization header to WKWebView.
How can i add Authorization header to a wkwebview. I checked https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundation/nsurlrequest#1776617 which says Authorization header is a reserved http header and shouldn’t be set. I want to set it when requesting a url to the server which will be used for verification. How can i do that?

Issue with Safari v18.2: Extension Prevents Video Playback When Inspecting
I am a developer working on a Safari extension that handles video playback, and I’ve encountered an issue with Safari version 18.2. When I open the developer tools to inspect the browser, videos fail to play as expected. It worked well on safari version 18.1. Details: Safari Version: 18.2 Operating System: macOS Sequoia v15.2 Additional Information: I’ve tested the extension with various video formats and sites. Clearing the cache and disabling other extensions did not resolve the issue. There are no error messages displayed in the console related to the extension. If I close inspecting, then extension(video playback) works well. I would appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to address this issue, as it impacts the functionality of my extension. Thank you for your help!

Memory leak in WebKit caused by KVO and @StateObject
Hi! My SwiftUI app is a rather complex browser app. Starting with iOS 18, the app crashes due to repeted reloads of the WkWebView. I’ve tracked the issue as far as I can, but I still haven’t found the root cause. My app is structured like this: MainView holds a cuple of subviews. It also holds a @StateObject called viewModel that holds a lot of @Published vars. The viewModel is passed as a enivormentObject. Example from ViewModel: @MainActor class ViewModel: NSObject, ObservableObject { @Published public var isLoading: Bool = false @Published public var loadProgress: Double? = 0 public func setIsLoading(_ value: Bool) async { self.isLoading = value } public func setLoadProgress(_ value: Double?) async { self.loadProgress = value } } WebView is a subview of MainView, which holds a navigation bar, and a UIViewRepresentable, which is a WkWebView. The WkWebView pushes some states to the ViewModel as the underlying values of the WkWebView changes, i.e. estimaedProgress, and isLoading. This is done via KVO and works like this: estimatedProgressObservation = self.parent.webView.observe(\.estimatedProgress) { webView, progress in Task { await parent.viewModel.setLoadProgress(webView.estimatedProgress) } } isLoadingObservation = self.parent.webView.observe(\.isLoading) { webView, value in Task { await parent.viewModel.setIsLoading(webView.isLoading) } } By using a timer in WkWebViews Coordinator, i trigger a load after a configurable amount of time :
func loadUrl(url: URL) { DispatchQueue.main.async { console.info("Load URL: ...", sensitive: "Load URL: \(url.absoluteString)") let policy: NSURLRequest.CachePolicy if self.parent.settings.noCache { policy = .reloadIgnoringLocalAndRemoteCacheData } else { policy = .useProtocolCachePolicy } let request = URLRequest(url: url, cachePolicy: policy) self.parent.webView.load(request) } } Running the app with the automatic reload enabled freezes the app after a couple of hours. It also seems to freeze Safari on the device. The device needs to be rebooted. If I inspect the device's running processes, hundreds of ”com.apple.webkit. web content " processes are running. Removing await parent.viewModel.setLoadProgress(webView.estimatedProgress) and await parent.viewModel.setIsLoading(webView.isLoading) fixes the issue, but it is necessary for other app functions. Therefore, is suspect that the viewModel somehow causes the bug. The issue arises after a couple of loads 5-10. The debugger shows a message when the processes start to pile up. I suspect its related. Failed to terminate process: Error Domain=com.apple.extensionKit.errorDomain Code=18 "(null)" UserInfo={NSUnderlyingError=0x12d0e7f60 {Error Domain=RBSServiceErrorDomain Code=1 "Client not entitled" UserInfo={RBSEntitlement=com.apple.runningboard.terminateprocess, NSLocalizedFailureReason=Client not entitled, RBSPermanent=true}}} How can I find out what causes the suspected memory leak? Instruments gives me nothing of value. The memory leak wasn't present in iOS 17. Is this a bug in iOS 18, or was something intentionally changed?

TLS re-negotiation fails with ios18.4
I'm running apache with following configuration. /cc require TLS client certificate / not require TLS client certificate Starting with ios 18.4, accessing /cc after / fails with following error: AH02261: Re-negotiation handshake failed, referer: https://www.example.com/... SSL Library Error: error:1417C0C7:SSL routines:tls_process_client_certificate:peer did not return a certificate -- No CAs known to server for verification? It seems like ios 18.4 does not support TLS re-negotiation. (It worked with ios 18.3 and before) Is this an expected behavior or a bug?
