I’m working with Swift and ran into an issue when using the contains(_:) method on an array. The following code works fine:
let result = ["hello", "world"].contains(Optional("hello")) // ✅ Works fine
But when I try to use the same contains method with the array declared in a separate variable, I get a compile-time error:
let stringArray = ["hello", "world"]
let result = stringArray.contains(Optional("hello")) // ❌ Compile-time error
Both examples seem conceptually similar, but the second one causes a compile-time error, while the first one works fine.
I understand that when comparing an optional value (Optional("hello")) with a non-optional value ("hello"), Swift automatically promotes the non-optional value to an optional (i.e., "hello" becomes Optional("hello")).

My point is - this can introduce hidden breaking changes? I didn't see this documented anyhow at: https://www.swift.org/migration/documentation/migrationguide/.
decidePolicyFor is an optional method - so if signature 'mismatches' - there will be no warning on not-implementing the delegate method.
How do we catch or diagnose irregularities like this? Is it something @preconcurrency import WebKit should be ensuring and it is not?
Is this delegate mismatch a bug on swift side or something we should be taking care of while migrating? If it is on us, how do we diagnose these potential mismatches?

I'm facing a crash when updating an array of tuples from both a background thread and the main thread simultaneously. Here's a simplified version of the code in a macOS app using AppKit:

What's interesting:
This crash only happens when the tuple contains a String ((dim: Int, key: String))
If I change the tuple type to use two Int values ((dim: Int, key: Int)), the crash does not occur
My Questions:
Why does mutating an array of tuples containing a String crash when accessed from multiple threads?
Why is the crash avoided when the tuple contains only primitive types like Int?
Is there an underlying memory management issue with value types containing reference types like String?
Any explanation about this behavior and best practices for thread-safe mutation of such arrays would be much appreciated.

Is it ok for an Actor type to have a Publisher as a property to let others observe changes over time? Or use the @Published property wrapper to achieve this?

This seems like this should be acceptable. I would expect a Publisher to be thread safe, and as long as the Output is a value type things should be fine.
I have been getting random EXC_BAD_ACCESS errors when using this approach. But turning on the address sanitizer causes these crashes to go away. I know that isn't very specific but I wanted to start by seeing if this type of pattern is ok to do.
Consider this Swift struct:

Using Swift/C++ interop, I can create Example objects and call methods like blah. But I can't call foo because Swift/C++ interop doesn't currently support passing closures (right?).
On the other hand, Swift/objC does support passing objC blocks to Swift functions. But I can't use that here because Example is a Swift struct, not a class. So I could change it to a class, and update everything to work with reference rather than value semantics; but then I also have to change the objC++ code to create the object and call its methods using objC syntax. I'd like to avoid that.
Is there some hack that I can use to make this possible? I'm hoping that I can wrap a C++ std::function in some sort of opaque wrapper and pass that to swift, or something.

Hi I'm new here - I'm trying to learn Swift and SwiftUI.
Tried on PluralSight and Udemy but they have been outdated and thus hard to follow.
So after finding Apples own guides I felt relieved and happy, but now I'm stuck again.
After they've updated Xcode to use #Preview instead of PreviewProvider it's hard to follow along on their tutorial.
Does anyone know of good resources to study SwiftUI? Or know if apple plan to update their tutorials any time soon?

I've narrowed down my question after many rabbit holes - how can C++ code open any view in Swift. I can call functions in swift from C++ (works great), but not async or main actor (or actor at all) functions. And if I'm not mistaken all views are actors if not main actors? When calling from C+ I think its necessary that the first view be the main actor?
I've implemented the code from the WWDC23 C++ interop video (Zoe's image picker) where I made a view in a struct, and just want to call it and let the view do the work.
The compiler immediately gives me 'cannot expose main actors to C++'. If I'm not mistaken, doesn't this block the opening of any kind of swift view from C++? Hopefully I'm missing something obvious, which is likely :)
In Zoe's code was his entry point into the program still Swift and not actually C++ app?

I have an xcode project which has both cpp and swift code. In one of my usecase I am passing primitive type variables from swift to cpp by reference( primitives types list here as per the new cpp-swift interop documentation)
swift code:

The above code fails during compilation with no clear error message "Command SwiftCompile failed with a nonzero exit code"
However, all the other primitive types that I tested worked for the above code like Int, Float, Double etc. Only the Bool interop fails. Can someone explain why is it not possible for bool? I m using the new interop introduced in swift 5.9.
I have a Settings class that conform to the TestProtocol. From the function of the protocol I need to call the setString function and this function needs to be on the MainActor. Is there a way of make this work in Swift6, without making the protocol functions running on @MainActor

This function has been deprecated since ios17.
However, in ios18, when I changed the app to the background state or changed it to the foreground state again, it was confirmed that the function worked.
It hasn't been confirmed in ios17, but why is it only confirmed in ios18?
Hello Im having an error in swiftUI project of mine. I use fullscreencover to navigate through views. Normally it s been working but one point it doesn't. I go through MainMenu -> SomeOtherView -> GameView -> AfterGameView -> SomeOtherView -> MainMenu. When it comes to mainmenu at last, it s showing main menu for a glimpse of a look and then goes back to GameView. In console an error took my notice.

The delegate is already a UITextFieldDelegate, but when you click on the error, it returns 7 instances of:

This doesn't give an error in Xcode 16. Is this an Xcode 26 bug?
My framework has private Objective-C API that is only used within the framework. It should not be exposed in the public interface (so it shouldn't be imported in the umbrella header).
To expose this API to Swift that's within the framework only the documentation seems to indicate that this needs to be imported in the umbrella header?
Import Code Within a Framework Target
To use the Objective-C declarations in files in the same framework target as your Swift code, configure an umbrella header as follows:
1.Under Build Settings, in Packaging, make sure the Defines Module setting for the framework target is set to Yes.
2.In the umbrella header, import every Objective-C header you want to expose to Swift.
Swift sees every header you expose publicly in your umbrella header. The contents of the Objective-C files in that framework are automatically available from any Swift file within that framework target, with no import statements. Use classes and other declarations from your Objective-C code with the same Swift syntax you use for system classes.
I would imagine that there must be a way to do this?
I am using CHCSVParser in objective-c to use the CSVString extension of the Array instance method.
When I installed a new app on iOS18.1.1, the correct value (@"Application,"abc,def"") was returned for both the first and second turns, but
when I installed a new app on iOS18.2, the correct value was returned for the first turn, but @"" was returned for the second turn.
Even when I debug with step into, I can enter the CSVString for the first turn, but I cannot enter it for the second turn and after. It's as if the instance method is not being generated.
There are in-app purchases between the first and second turns, but the view controllers that are called are also the same.
Is there any change between iOS18.1.1 and iOS18.2?

I'm not really trying to make an increasing function like that, this is just an example to make everything happen. As for why number is a computed property, this is to trigger the actor-isolated condition (otherwise, if the property is stored and is a value type, this condition will not be triggered).
Under these conditions, in function change(), I got the error: Actor-isolated property 'number' cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call.
My question is: Why Actor-isolated property cannot be passed 'inout' to 'async' function call? What is the purpose of this design? If this were allowed, what problems might it cause?
I recently encountered an issue with Xcode 16.2 while attempting to integrate Settings.bundle into a new app. I added Settings.bundle as a new file (using the provided template), but when I ran the app (the standard simple "Hello World" project), the expected three default controls (Name, Enabled, Slider) did not appear in the app's settings.
To troubleshoot, I downgraded my system to macOS Sonoma 14.7.2 and Xcode 15.4 (on a 2023 Mac Mini, M2). After this downgrade, everything worked as expected. With a new project, adding Settings.bundle, and running the app, the settings entry for the app appeared, including the three default fields.
This behavior suggests a potential issue or incompatibility with Xcode 16.2.
