Multiview HLS with HDR
I have an HDR10+ encoded video that if loaded as a mov plays back on the Apple Vision Pro but when that video is encoded using the latest (1.23b) Apple HLS tools to generate an fMP4 - the resulting m3u8 cannot be played back in the Apple Vision Pro and I only get back a "Cannot Open" error. To generate the m3u8, I'm just calling mediafilesegmenter (with -iso-fragmented) and then variantplaylistcreator. This completes with no errors but the m3u8 will playback on the Mac using VLC but not on the Apple Vision Pro. The relevant part of the m3u8 is: #EXT-X-STREAM-INF:AVERAGE-BANDWIDTH=40022507,BANDWIDTH=48883974,VIDEO-RANGE=PQ,CODECS="ec-3,hvc1.1.60000000.L180.B0",RESOLUTION=4096x4096,FRAME-RATE=24.000,CLOSED-CAPTIONS=NONE,AUDIO="audio1",REQ-VIDEO-LAYOUT="CH-STEREO" {{url}} Has anyone been able to use the HLS tools to generate fMP4s of MV-HEVC videos with HDR10?

Alternative for crashing API MPMediaItemArtwork
When setting the now playing info for playing media in MPNowPlayingInfoCenter we can set artwork. But it seems the Apple API for creating the artwork is crashing on iOS 18 (FB15145734). On iOS 17 this gave the warning that the completion handler was not run on the main thread. I've tried to seek help here: https://stackoverflow.com/questions/78989543/swift-data-race-with-appkit-mpmediaitemartwork-function/78990231?noredirect=1#comment139277425_78990231 but it seems that it's not possible to override the completion handler and therefor it's up to Apple to fix this issue. .task { await MainActor.run { let nowPlayingInfoCenter = MPNowPlayingInfoCenter.default() var nowPlayingInfo = [String: Any]() let image = NSImage(named: "image")! // warning: data race detected: @MainActor function at MPMediaItemArtwork/ContentView.swift:22 was not called on the main thread nowPlayingInfo[MPMediaItemPropertyArtwork] = MPMediaItemArtwork(boundsSize: image.size, requestHandler: { _ in // Not on main thread here! return image }) nowPlayingInfoCenter.nowPlayingInfo = nowPlayingInfo } } I'm wondering if there is an alternative method to set the now playing artwork?

Implementing Enhanced Dialogue on tvOS 18
How does a third party developer go about supporting the new Enhanced Dialogue option for video apps in tvOS 18? If an app is using the standard AVPlayerViewController, I had assumed it would be a simple-ish matter of building against the tvOS 18 SDK but apparently not, the options don't appear, not even greyed out.

dyld[434]: Library not loaded: error when running LockedCameraCapture compatible app on iOS 15
Hello, I am getting the following error while attempting to run my LockedCameraCapture compatible app on an iOS 15 device: dyld[434]: Library not loaded: '/System/Library/Frameworks/LockedCameraCapture.framework/LockedCameraCapture' Referenced from: '/private/var/containers/Bundle/Application/.../MyApp.app/MyApp.debug.dylib' Reason: tried: '/System/Library/Frameworks/LockedCameraCapture.framework/LockedCameraCapture' (no such file) Of course iOS 15 doesn't have the library for LockedCameraCapture, but I have had no issue including Lock Screen Widgets (which require iOS 16), so I am not sure why the error is popping up. Thank you!

Take correctly sized screenshots with ScreenCaptureKit
I've been using CGWindowListCreateImage which automatically creates an image with the size of the captured window. But SCScreenshotManager.captureImage(contentFilter:configuration:) always creates images with the width and height specified in the provided SCStreamConfiguration. I could be setting the size explicitly by reading SCWindow.frame or SCContentFilter.contentRect and multiplying the width and height by SCContentFilter.pointPixelScale , but it won't work if I want to keep the window shadow with SCStreamConfiguration.ignoreShadowsSingleWindow = false. Is there a way and what's the best way to take full-resolution screenshots of the correct size? import Cocoa import ScreenCaptureKit class ViewController: NSViewController { @IBOutlet weak var imageView: NSImageView! override func viewDidAppear() { imageView.imageScaling = .scaleProportionallyUpOrDown view.wantsLayer = true view.layer!.backgroundColor = .init(red: 1, green: 0, blue: 0, alpha: 1) Task { let windows = try await SCShareableContent.excludingDesktopWindows(false, onScreenWindowsOnly: true).windows let window = windows[0] let filter = SCContentFilter(desktopIndependentWindow: window) let configuration = SCStreamConfiguration() configuration.ignoreShadowsSingleWindow = false configuration.showsCursor = false configuration.width = Int(Float(filter.contentRect.width) * filter.pointPixelScale) configuration.height = Int(Float(filter.contentRect.height) * filter.pointPixelScale) print(filter.contentRect) let windowImage = try await SCScreenshotManager.captureImage(contentFilter: filter, configuration: configuration) imageView.image = NSImage(cgImage: windowImage, size: CGSize(width: windowImage.width, height: windowImage.height)) } } }

Distorted Audio When Recording External Mics With AVCaptureSession and AVAssetWriter
I’m working on a macOS app, written in Swift. My goal is to record audio from an external microphone, e.g., one connected via USB. For this, I’m using an AVCaptureSession and recording its output with an AVAssetWriter. This works perfectly in principle (and reliably with internal microphones, for example). The problem occurs after my app has successfully completed the first recording and I then want to make additional recordings (which makes me think it might be process-dependent, because it works again after restarting the app). The problem: Noisy or distorted-sounding audio files. In addition, the following error message appears in the Console from CoreAudio / its AudioConverter: Input data proc returned inconsistent 512 packets for 2048 bytes; at 3 bytes per packet, that is actually 682 packets It is easy to reproduce. This problem is reproducible even if I don’t configure the AVAssetWriter manually and instead let it receive its audioSettings using a preset from an AVOutputSettingsAssistant. I’m running on macOS 15.0 (24A335). I’ve filed a feedback including a demo project → FB15333298 🎟️ I would greatly appreciate any help! Have a great day, Martin

Can Logic Pro load an Audio Unit v3 in-process?
After investing more than a week into getting a bunch of audio unit projects converted into app + appex + framework, they all are now correctly loaded in-process in the demo host app that is part of Xcode's template. However, Logic Pro adamantly refuses to load them in-process. Does Logic Pro simply not do that ever, or is there some hint or configuration my plugins need to provide to enable that? If it is unsupported, will it be supported in some future version of Logic? The entire point of investing that week was performance, which is moot if it is impossible to test the impact of loading in-process in a real-world usage scenario.

Linking to iTunesLibrary requires access every launch?
Hello, I have a command line application that uses iTunesLibrary to "save" the state of what I have listened to. I have it run every night via a LaunchAgent. You can see the source here: https://github.com/bolsinga/itunes_json Prior to Sequoia it would run nightly. I'd just have to grant it access to the Music library once, and it would be fine thereafter. However with Sequoia it requires UI interaction to grant it access every time. This makes it no longer run unattended overnight, defeating its purpose. I have the console logs of when this happens. You can see it in my issue tracking it here: https://github.com/bolsinga/itunes_json/issues/410 One thing that makes me wonder is that it is a command line application, not a bundle. How do I make a command line application get access to MusicKit / iTunesLibrary, and keep it thereafter? I'd like to get my pre-Sequoia behavior back. I've filed FB15592660 too. I've granted it access to run in the background, as well as access to my Music library (please see attached screenshots). writeImageAtIndex:1012: ⭕️ ERROR: 'App' is trying to save an opaque image (5712x4284) with 'AlphaLast'.
I have an app that edits photos in your library. When I call try CIContext().writeHEIFRepresentation(of: editedImage, to: fileURL, format: .RGBA8, colorSpace: originalImage.colorSpace!) The following is logged to the console: writeImageAtIndex:1012: ⭕️ ERROR: 'App' is trying to save an opaque image (5712x4284) with 'AlphaLast'. This would unnecessarily increase the file size and will double (!!!) the required memory when decoding the image --> ignoring alpha. What does that mean and how can I resolve it? Crash in iOS 18 regarding [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:]
There are significant crash reports coming from iOS 18 users regarding AVKit framework that starts from this line [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:] which seems to be coming from iOS internal SDK. There are 2 kinds of crash we found: UI modification on background thread From the stack trace it seems like when AVPictureInPictureController is being deallocated and its view is being removed from superview somehow the code is being executed in background thread because there is this line there _AssertAutoLayoutOnAllowedThreadsOnly highlighted before the crash. But I’ve checked our code that plays around AVPictureInPictureController, in the locations where we would deallocate the object it will always be called on main thread which are insideviewDidLoad and deinit inside UIViewController class. From the log, it seems like the crash happened when user try to open another content when PIP player is active resulting in the current PIP instance will be replaced with a new one. My suspect is the observation logic inside AVPlayerController could be the hint to this issue, probably something broken over there since this issue happened across our app versions on iOS 18 users only. Unfortunately, I was unable to reproduce this issue yet but one of my colleagues reproduced it once but haven’t been able to do it again since. The reports keep raising each day up to 1.3k events in the last 30 days now. Over release object This one has lower reports than the first one but I decided to include it since it might have relevant information regarding the first crash since the starting stack trace is similar. The crash timing seems to be similar to the first one, where we deallocate existing AVPictureInPictureController and later replace it with a new one and also found only in iOS 18 users which also refers to [AVPlayerController _observeValueForKeyPath:oldValue:newValue:]. I also was unable to reproduce this issue so far. Oh, and both of the issues happened on both iPhone and iPad. We’d appreciate any advice on what we can do to avoid this in the future and probably any hint on why it could happened. I have reported this issue with bug number: FB15620734 I also attached one sample crash report for each of the crashes here. non ui thread access.crash over release.crash

Playlist IDs from MusicKit not working with Apple Music API
I am building an app for MacOS and I am trying to implement the code to add songs to a library playlist (which is added below). The issue I am having is that if I use Music Kit to load a users library playlists, the ID for the playlist (which is just a string of numbers) does not work with the Add tracks to a Library Playlist endpoint of Apple Music API. If I retrieve the playlists from the Apple Music API and use that playlist ID (which is different than the id I get from MusicKit) my code works fine and adds the song to the playlist. The problem is that when getting a users library playlists from Apple Music API is that it does not give me all of the library playlists that I get when using Music Kit and it also does not give me Artwork for playlists that have the collage of album covers, so I would prefer to use Music Kit to get the playlists. I have also tested trying to retrieve a single playlist using the Apple Music API with the playlist Id from Music Kit and it does not work. I get the error that the resource cannot be found. Since this is a macOs app I cannot use MusicKit to add songs to library playlists. Does anyone know a way to resolve this? Or a possible workaround? Ideally I want to use MusicKit to get the library playlists and have some way to use the playlist Id and add songs to that playlist. Below is my code for adding a song to a playlist using the Apple Music API, which works correctly only if I originally get the library playlist's id value from a playlist retrieved from the Apple Music API. Also, does anyone know why the playlist Id's are not universal and are different when using Music Kit and Apple Music API? For songs and tracks it does not seem to matter if I use music kit or Apple Music API, the Id's are in the correct format for Apple Music API to use and work with my code. Thanks everyone for any and all help! func addToPlaylist(songs: [Track], playlist: Playlist, alert: Binding<AlertItem?>) async { let tracks = AppleMusicPlaylistPostRequestBody(data: songs.compactMap { AppleMusicPlaylistPostRequestItem(id: $0.id.rawValue, type: "songs") // or "library-songs" }) let playlistID = playlist.id // Build the request URL for adding a song to a playlist guard let url = URL(string: "https://api.music.apple.com/v1/me/library/playlists/\(playlistID)/tracks") else { alert.wrappedValue = AlertItem(title: "Error", message: "Invalid URL for the playlist.") return } // Authorization Header guard let musicUserToken = try? await MusicUserTokenProvider().getUserMusicToken() else { alert.wrappedValue = AlertItem(title: "Error", message: "Unable to retrieve Music User Token.") return } do { var request = URLRequest(url: url) request.httpMethod = "POST" request.setValue("Bearer \(musicUserToken)", forHTTPHeaderField: "Authorization") request.setValue("application/json", forHTTPHeaderField: "Content-Type") let encoder = JSONEncoder() let data = try encoder.encode(tracks) request.httpBody = data let musicRequest = MusicDataRequest(urlRequest: request) let musicRequestResponse = try await musicRequest.response() // Check if the request was successful (status 201) if musicRequestResponse.urlResponse.statusCode == 201 { alert.wrappedValue = AlertItem(title: "Success", message: "Song successfully added to the playlist.") } else { print("Status Code: \(musicRequestResponse.urlResponse.statusCode)") print("Response Data: \(String(data: musicRequestResponse.data, encoding: .utf8) ?? Cannot load iTunesLibrary on macOS Sequoia 15.1
I use the iTunes Library framework in one of my apps, starting with macOS Sequoia 15.1 i can't create the ITLibrary object anymore with the following error: Connection to amplibraryd was interrupted. clientName:iTunesLibrary(ITLibraryLoader) Error connecting to the server via proxy object Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4097 "connection to service named com.apple.amp.library.framework" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=connection to service named com.apple.amp.library.framework} configure failed: Error Domain=NSCocoaErrorDomain Code=4097 "connection to service named com.apple.amp.library.framework" UserInfo={NSDebugDescription=connection to service named com.apple.amp.library.framework} I created a new sandboxed macOS app, added the music folder read permission and it reproduced the error: import SwiftUI import iTunesLibrary @main struct ITLibraryLoaderApp: App { var body: some Scene { WindowGroup { ContentView() } } } struct ContentView: View { var body: some View { Button("Load ITLibrary") { loadLibrary() } } func loadLibrary() { do { let _ = try ITLibrary(apiVersion: "1.0", options: .none) } catch { print(error) } } } I restarted my developer machine and the music app with no luck.

AVSpeechUtterance Mandarin voice output replaced by SIRI language setting after upgraded the IOS to 18
Hi, Apple's engineer. Hoping that you can reply to this one. We're developing a Text-to-Speak app. Everything went well until the IOS got upgraded to 18. AVSpeechSynthesisVoice(language: "zh-CN") is running well under IOS 16 AND IOS 17. It speaks Mandarin correctly. In IOS 18, we noticed that Siri's Language setting interrupted the performance of AVSpeechSynthesisVoice. It plays Cantonese instead of Mandarin. Buggy language setting in Siri that affects the AVSpeechSynthesisVoice : Chinese (Cantonese - China mainland) Chinese (Cantonese -Hong Kong)

Capturing multiple screens no longer works with macOS Sequoia
Capturing more than one display is no longer working with macOS Sequoia. We have a product that allows users to capture up to 2 displays/screens. Our application is using gstreamer which in turn is based on AVFoundation. I found a quick way to replicate the issue by just running 2 captures from separate terminals. Assuming display 1 has device index 0, and display 2 has device index 1, here are the steps: install gstreamer with brew install gstreamer Then open 2 terminal windows and launch the following processes: terminal 1 (device-index:0): gst-launch-1.0 avfvideosrc -e device-index=0 capture-screen=true ! queue ! videoscale ! video/x-raw,width=640,height=360 ! videoconvert ! osxvideosink terminal 2 (device-index:1): gst-launch-1.0 avfvideosrc -e device-index=1 capture-screen=true ! queue ! videoscale ! video/x-raw,width=640,height=360 ! videoconvert ! osxvideosink The first process that is launched will show the screen, the second process launched will not. Testing this on macOS Ventura and Sonoma works as expected, showing both screens. I submitted the same issue on Feedback Assistant: FB15900976

Video freezing with FairPlay streaming on iOS 18
Since iOS/iPadOs/tvOS 18 then we have run into a new problem with streaming of FairPlay encrypted video. On the affected streams then the audio plays perfectly but the video freezes for periods of a few seconds, so it will freeze for 5s or so, then be OK for a few seconds then freeze again. It is entirely reproducible when all the following are true the video streams were produced by a particular encoder (or particular settings, not sure on that) the video must be encrypted device is running some variety of iOS 18 (or iPadOS or tvOS) the device is an affected device Known devices are AppleTV 4K 2nd Gen iPad Pro 11" 1st and 2nd gen Devices known not to show the problem are all other AppleTV models iPhone 13 Pro and 16 Pro If we stream the same content, but unencrypted, then it plays perfectly, or if you play the encrypted stream on, say, tvOS 17. When the freezing occurs then we can see in the console logs repeating blocks of lines like the following default 18:08:46.578582+0000 videocodecd AppleAVD: AppleAVDDecodeFrameResponse(): Frame# 5771 DecodeFrame failed with error 0x0000013c default 18:08:46.578756+0000 videocodecd AppleAVD: AppleAVDDecodeFrameInternal(): failed - error: 316 default 18:08:46.579018+0000 videocodecd AppleAVD: AppleAVDDecodeFrameInternal(): avdDec - Frame# 5771, DecodeFrame failed with error: 0x13c default 18:08:46.579169+0000 videocodecd AppleAVD: AppleAVDDisplayCallback(): Asking fig to drop frame # 5771 with err -12909 - internalStatus: 315 also more relevant looking lines: default 18:17:39.122019+0000 kernel AppleAVD: avdOutbox0ISR(): FRM DONE (cid: 2.0, fno: 10970, codecT: 1) FAILED!! default 18:17:39.122155+0000 videocodecd AppleAVD: AppleAVDDisplayCallback(): Asking fig to drop frame # 10970 with err -12909 - internalStatus: 315 default 18:17:39.122221+0000 kernel AppleAVD: ## client[ 2.0] @ frm 10970, errStatus: 0x10 default 18:17:39.122338+0000 kernel AppleAVD: decodeFailIdentify(): VP error bit 4 has EP3B0 error default 18:17:39.122401+0000 kernel AppleAVD: processHWResponse(): clientID 2.0 frameNumber 10970 error 315, offsetIndex 10, isHwErr 1 So it would seem to me that one of the following must be happening: When these particular HLS files are encrypted then the data is being corrupted in some way that played back on iOS 17 and earlier but now won't on 18+, or There's a regression in iOS 18 that means that this particular format of video data is corrupted on decryption If anyone has seen similar behaviour, or has any ideas how to identify which of the two scenarios it is, please say. Unfortunately we don't have control of the servers so can't make changes there unless we can identify they are definitely the cause of the problem. Thanks, Simon.

PHLivePhotoEditingContext.saveLivePhoto results in AVFoundation error -11800 "The operation could not be completed" reason An unknown error occurred (-12815)

Any ideas what's going on here? It's impacting multiple customers. Thanks!

Shazamkit with AirPods
HI Guys, I'm using Shazamkit in my IOS app and successfully capturing the currently playing track details, when using the devices (iPhone) built-in mic. When I test with AirPods though, my app cannot both send the output to through the AirPods and capture that same output with the AirPods mic, for Shazamkit recognition. I believe this must be possible, because the Shazamkit widget on IOS can do this. Is it restricted in some way for third party apps? If not, I'd appreciate some guidance on how to achieve this in Swift code. Thanks in advance.

I was trying to set custom audio output device for a generated audio on macCatalyst. While using let status = AudioUnitSetProperty(outputUnit, kAudioOutputUnitProperty_CurrentDevice, kAudioUnitScope_Global, 0, &outputDeviceID, UInt32(MemoryLayout.size)) kAudioOutputUnitProperty_CurrentDevice is invalid, and status = -10879, indicating an error. STEPS TO REPRODUCE Set Run Destination to MacOS and run the program. "AudioUnitSetProperty: 0" should be printed, indicating it works fine. Set Run Destination to Mac Catalyst and run the program. "Error setting output device: -10879" should be printed, indicating an error.
