CreateML
I'm trying to use the Spatial model to perform Object Tracking on a .usdz file that I create. After loading the file, which I can view correctly in the console, I start the training. Initially, I notice that the disk usage on my PC increases. After several GB, the usage stops, but the training progress remains for hours at 0.00% with the message "About 8hr." How can I understand what the issue is? Has anyone else experienced the same problem? Thanks Diego

What's the best way to load adapters to try?
I'm new to Swift and was hoping the Playground would support loading adaptors. When I tried, I got a permissions error - thinking it's because it's not in the project and Playgrounds don't like going outside the project? A tutorial and some sample code would be helpful. Also some benchmarks on how long it's expected to take. Selfishly I'm on an M2 Mac Mini.

Converting TF2 object detection to CoreML
I've spent way too long today trying to convert an Object Detection TensorFlow2 model to a CoreML object classifier (with bounding boxes, labels and probability score) The 'SSD MobileNet v2 320x320' is here: https://github.com/tensorflow/models/blob/master/research/object_detection/g3doc/tf2_detection_zoo.md And I've been following all sorts of posts and ChatGPT https://apple.github.io/coremltools/docs-guides/source/tensorflow-2.html#convert-a-tensorflow-concrete-function https://developer.apple.com/videos/play/wwdc2020/10153/?time=402 To convert it. I keep hitting the same errors though, mostly around: NotImplementedError: Expected model format: [SavedModel | concrete_function | tf.keras.Model | .h5 | GraphDef], got <ConcreteFunction signature_wrapper(input_tensor) at 0x366B87790> I've had varying success including missing output labels/predictions. But I simply want to create the CoreML model with all the right inputs and outputs (including correct names) as detailed in the docs here: https://github.com/tensorflow/models/blob/master/research/object_detection/g3doc/running_on_mobile_tf2.md It goes without saying I don't have much (any) experience with this stuff including Python so the whole thing's been a bit of a headache. If anyone is able to help that would be great. FWIW I'm not attached to any one specific model, but what I do need at minimum is a CoreML model that can detect objects (has to at least include lights and lamps) within a live video image, detecting where in the image the object is. The simplest script I have looks like this: import coremltools as ct import tensorflow as tf model = tf.saved_model.load("~/tf_models/ssd_mobilenet_v2_320x320_coco17_tpu-8/saved_model") concrete_func = model.signatures[tf.saved_model.DEFAULT_SERVING_SIGNATURE_DEF_KEY] mlmodel = ct.convert( concrete_func, source="tensorflow", inputs=[ct.TensorType(shape=(1, 320, 320, 3))] ) mlmodel.save("YourModel.mlpackage", save_format="mlpackage")

Visual Intelligence API SemanticContentDescriptor labels are empty
I'm trying to use Apple's new Visual Intelligence API for recommending content through screenshot image search. The problem I encountered is that the SemanticContentDescriptor labels are either completely empty or super misleading, making it impossible to query for similar content on my app. Even the closest matching example was inaccurate, returning a single label ["cardigan"] for a Supreme T-Shirt. I see other apps using this API like Etsy for example, and I'm wondering if they're using the input pixel buffer to query for similar content rather than using the labels? If anyone has a similar experience or something that wasn't called out in the documentation please lmk! Thanks.

Is it possible to create a virtual NPU device on macOS using Hypervisor.framework + CoreML?
Is it possible to expose a custom VirtIO device to a Linux guest running inside a VM — likely using QEMU backed by Hypervisor.framework. The guest would see this device as something like /dev/npu0, and it would use a kernel driver + userspace library to submit inference requests. On the macOS host, these requests would be executed using CoreML, MPSGraph, or BNNS. The results would be passed back to the guest via IPC. Does the macOS allow this kind of "fake" NPU / GPU

Automated Testing and Performance Validation for Foundation Models Framework
I've been successfully integrating the Foundation Models framework into my healthcare app using structured generation with @Generable schemas. While my initial testing (20-30 iterations) shows promising results, I need to validate consistency and reliability at scale before production deployment. Question Is there a recommended approach for automated, large-scale testing of Foundation Models responses? Specifically, I'm looking to: Automate 1000+ test iterations with consistent prompts and structured schemas Measure response consistency across identical inputs Validate structured output reliability (proper schema adherence, no generation failures) Collect performance metrics (TTFT, TPS) for optimization Specific Questions Framework Limitations: Are there any undocumented rate limits or thermal throttling considerations for rapid session creation/destruction? Performance Tools: Can Xcode's Foundation Models Instrument be used programmatically, or only through Instruments UI? Automation Integration: Any recommendations for integrating with testing frameworks? Session Reuse: Is it better to reuse a single LanguageModelSession or create fresh sessions for each test iteration? Use Case Context My wellness app provides medically safe activity recommendations based on user health profiles. The Foundation Models framework processes health context and generates structured recommendations for exercises, nutrition, and lifestyle activities. Given the safety implications of providing health-related guidance, I need rigorous validation to ensure the model consistently produces appropriate, well-formed recommendations across diverse user scenarios and health conditions. Has anyone in the community built similar large-scale testing infrastructure for Foundation Models? Any insights on best practices or potential pitfalls would be greatly appreciated.

What is the proper way to integrate a CoreML app into Xcode
Hi, I have been trying to integrate a CoreML model into Xcode. The model was made using tensorflow layers. I have included both the model info and a link to the app repository. I am mainly just really confused on why its not working. It seems to only be printing the result for case 1 (there are 4 cases labled, case 0, case 1, case 2, and case 3). If someone could help work me through this error that would be great! here is the link to the repository: https://github.com/ShivenKhurana1/Detect-to-Protect-App this file with the model code is called SecondView.swift and here is the model info: Input: conv2d_input-> image (color 224x224) Output: Identity -> MultiArray (Float32 1x4)

develop app in Europe using image playground
Hi, I want to develop an app which makes use of Image Playground. However, I am located in Europe which makes it impossible for me as Image Playground is not available for me. Even if I would like to distribute the app in the US. Nor the simulator, nor a physical device will always return that support for ImagePlayground is not supported (@Environment(.supportsImagePlayground) private var supportsImagePlayground) How to set my environment such that I can test the feature in my iOS application

Unwrapping LanguageModelSession.GenerationError details
Apologies if this is obvious to everyone but me... I'm using the Tahoe AI foundation models. When I get an error, I'm trying to handle it properly. I see the errors described here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/foundationmodels/languagemodelsession/generationerror/context, as well as in the headers. But all I can figure out how to see is error.localizedDescription which doesn't give me much to go on. For example, an error's description is: The operation couldn’t be completed. (FoundationModels.LanguageModelSession.GenerationError error 2. That doesn't give me much to go on. How do I get the actual error number/enum value out of this, short of parsing that text to look for the int at the end? This one is: case guardrailViolation(LanguageModelSession.GenerationError.Context) So I'd like to know how to get from the catch for session.respond to something I can act on. I feel like it's there, but I'm missing it. Thanks!

CoreML Model Instantiation Crashes
Some of my users are experiencing crashes on instantiation of a CoreML model I've bundled with my app. I haven't been able to reproduce the crash on any of my devices. Crashes happen across all iOS 18 releases. Seems like something internal in CoreML is causing an issue. Full stack trace: 6646631296fb42128ddc340b2d4322f7-symbolicated.crash

How does the extract method from ImagePlaygroundConcept work?
I’m building an app that generates images based on text input from a specific text field. However, I’m encountering a problem: For short prompts like "a cat and a dog", the entire string is sent to the Image Playground, even when I use the extracted method. For longer inputs, the behavior is inconsistent. Sometimes it extracts keywords correctly, but other times it doesn’t extract anything at all. Since my app relies on generating images based on the extracted keywords, this inconsistency negatively impacts the user experience in my app. How can I make sure that keywords are always extracted from the input string? Button("Generate", systemImage: "apple.intelligence") { isPresented = true } .imagePlaygroundSheet(isPresented: $isPresented, concepts: [ImagePlaygroundConcept.extracted(from: text, title: textTitle)]) { url in imageURL = url }

Is there an API for the 3D effect from flat photos?
Introduced in the Keynote was the 3D Lock Screen images with the kangaroo: https://9to5mac.com/wp-content/uploads/sites/6/2025/06/3d-lock-screen-2.gif I can't see any mention on if this effect is available for developers with an API to convert flat 2D photos in to the same 3D feeling image. Does anyone know if there is an API?

Dynamically Create Tool Argument Type
According to the Tool documentation, the arguments to the tool are specified as a static struct type T, which is given to tool.call(argument: T) However, if the arguments are not known until runtime, is it possible to still create a Tool object with the proper parameters? Let's say a JSON-style dictionary is passed into the Tool init function to specify T, is this achievable?

ML models failed to decrypt and load
We have suddenly encountered a serious issue: our local ML models are no longer being decrypted. Everything was set up according to the guide at https://developer.apple.com/documentation/coreml/generating-a-model-encryption-key and had been working in production, but yesterday we started receiving the following error: Error Domain=com.apple.CoreML Code=8 "Fetching decryption key from server failed: noEntryFound("No records found"). Make sure the encryption key was generated with correct team ID." UserInfo={NSLocalizedDescription=Fetching decryption key from server failed: noEntryFound("No records found"). Make sure the encryption key was generated with correct team ID.} We haven’t changed anything in our code. This started spontaneously affecting users of the release version as of yesterday. It also no longer works locally — we receive the same error at the moment the autogenerated function is called: class func load(configuration: MLModelConfiguration = MLModelConfiguration(), completionHandler handler: @escaping (Swift.Result<ZingPDModel, Error>) -> Void) I assume that I can generate a new key through Xcode, integrate it in place of the old one, and it might start working again. However, this won’t affect existing users until they update the app. Could the issue be on Apple’s infrastructure side?
