Data used for MLX fine-tuning
The WWDC25: Explore large language models on Apple silicon with MLX video talks about using your own data to fine-tune a large language model. But the video doesn't explain what kind of data can be used. The video just shows the command to use and how to point to the data folder. Can I use PDFs, Word documents, Markdown files to train the model? Are there any code examples on GitHub that demonstrate how to do this?

ILMessageFilterExtension memory limit
I’m considering creating an ILMessageFilterExtension using a mini LLM/SLM to detect fraud and I’ve read it has strict memory limits yet I can’t find it in the documentation. What’s the set limit or any other constraints impacting the feasibility of running 100-500mb model?

Mistral/LLaMa Core ML Conversion
Hi, I am new to developing on Apple’s platform yet I want to familiarize myself with Core ML and Core ML Tools. I was watching the WWDC24: Bring your machine learning and AI models to Apple Silicon video and was trying to follow along. After multiple attempts and much reading up on documentation, I am still unable to get a coherent script running that will convert the Mistral model that the host used and convert it to a valid Core ML model. here is a pastebin to what i have currently: https://pastebin.com/04cVjF1v if you require the output as well please let me know

Correct JSON format for CoreMotion data for ActivityClassification purposes
I’m developing an activity classifier that I’d like to input using the JSON format of CoreMotion data. I am getting the error: Unable to parse /Users/DewG/Downloads/Testing/Step1/Testing.json. It does not appear to be in JSON record format. A SequenceType of dictionaries is expected I've verified that the format I am using is JSON via various JSON validators, so I am expecting I'm just holding it wrong. Is there an example of a JSON file with CoreMotion data that I can model after?

Is there an API to check if a Core ML compiled model is already cached?
Hello Apple Developer Community, I'm investigating Core ML model loading behavior and noticed that even when the compiled model path remains unchanged after an APP update, the first run still triggers an "uncached load" process. This seems to impact user experience with unnecessary delays. Question: Does Core ML provide any public API to check whether a compiled model (from a specific .mlmodelc path) is already cached in the system? If such API exists, we'd like to use it for pre-loading decision logic - only perform background pre-load when the model isn't cached. Has anyone encountered similar scenarios or found official solutions? Any insights would be greatly appreciated!

Provide actionable feedback for the Foundation Models framework and the on-device LLM
We are really excited to have introduced the Foundation Models framework in WWDC25. When using the framework, you might have feedback about how it can better fit your use cases. Starting in macOS/iOS 26 Beta 4, the best way to provide feedback is to use #Playground in Xcode. To do so: In Xcode, create a playground using #Playground. Fore more information, see Running code snippets using the playground macro. Reproduce the issue by setting up a session and generating a response with your prompt. In the canvas on the right, click the thumbs-up icon to the right of the response. Follow the instructions on the pop-up window and submit your feedback by clicking Share with Apple. Another way to provide your feedback is to file a feedback report with relevant details. Specific to the Foundation Models framework, it’s super important to add the following information in your report: Language model feedback This feedback contains the session transcript, including the instructions, the prompts, the responses, etc. Without that, we can’t reason the model’s behavior, and hence can hardly take any action. Use logFeedbackAttachment(sentiment:issues:desiredOutput: ) to retrieve the feedback data of your current model session, as shown in the usage example, write the data into a file, and then attach the file to your feedback report. If you believe what you’d report is related to the system configuration, please capture a sysdiagnose and attach it to your feedback report as well. The framework is still new. Your actionable feedback helps us evolve the framework quickly, and we appreciate that. Thanks, The Foundation Models framework team

Foundation Models Adaptors for Generable output?
Is it possible to train an Adaptor for the Foundation Models to produce Generable output? If so what would the response part of the training data need to look like? Presumably, under the hood, the model is outputting JSON (or some other similar structure) that can be decoded to a Generable type. Would the response part of the training data for an Adaptor need to be in that structured format?

Various On-Device Frameworks API & ChatGPT
Posting a follow up question after the WWDC 2025 Machine Learning AI & Frameworks Group Lab on June 12. In regards to the on-device API of any of the AI frameworks (foundation model, vision framework, ect.), is there a response condition or path where the API outsources it's input to ChatGPT if the user has allowed this like Siri does? Ignore this if it's a no: is this handled behind the scenes or by the developer?

Downloading my fine tuned model from huggingface
I have used mlx_lm.lora to fine tune a mistral-7b-v0.3-4bit model with my data. I fused the mistral model with my adapters and upload the fused model to my directory on huggingface. I was able to use mlx_lm.generate to use the fused model in Terminal. However, I don't know how to load the model in Swift. I've used Imports import SwiftUI import MLX import MLXLMCommon import MLXLLM let modelFactory = LLMModelFactory.shared let configuration = ModelConfiguration( id: "pharmpk/pk-mistral-7b-v0.3-4bit" ) // Load the model off the main actor, then assign on the main actor let loaded = try await modelFactory.loadContainer(configuration: configuration) { progress in print("Downloading progress: \(progress.fractionCompleted * 100)%") } await MainActor.run { self.model = loaded } I'm getting an error runModel error: downloadError("A server with the specified hostname could not be found.") Any suggestions? Thanks, David PS, I can load the model from the app bundle // directory: Bundle.main.resourceURL! but it's too big to upload for Testflight

CreateML Training Object Detection Not using MPS
Hi everyone Im currently developing an object detection model that shall identify up to seven classes in an image. While im usually doing development with basic python and the ultralytics library, i thought i would like to give CreateML a shot. The experience is actually very nice, except for the fact that the model seem not to be using any ANE or GPU (MPS) for accelerated training. On https://developer.apple.com/machine-learning/create-ml/ it states: "On-device training Train models blazingly fast right on your Mac while taking advantage of CPU and GPU." Am I doing something wrong? Im running the training on Apple M1 Pro 16GB MacOS 26.1 (Tahoe) Xcode 26.1 (Build version 17B55) It would be super nice to get some feedback or instructions. Thank you in advance!

SpeechTranscriber time indexes - detect pauses?
I'm experimenting with the new SpeechTranscriber in macOS/iOS 26, transcribing speech from a prerecorded mp4 file. Speed and quality are amazing! I've told the transcriber to include time indexes. Each run is always exactly one word, which can be very useful. When I look at the indexes the end of one run is always identical to the start of the next run, even if there's a pause. I'd like to identify pauses, perhaps to generate something like phrases for subtitling. With each run of text going into the next I can't do this, other than using punctuation - which might be rather rough. Any suggestions on detecting pauses, or getting that kind of metadata from the transcriber? Here's a short sample, showing each run with the start, end, and characters in the run: 105.9 --> 107.04 I 107.04 --> 107.16 think 107.16 --> 108.0 more 108.0 --> 108.42 lighting 108.42 --> 108.6 is 108.6 --> 108.72 definitely 108.72 --> 109.2 needed, 109.2 --> 109.92 downtown. 109.98 --> 110.4 My 110.4 --> 110.52 only 110.52 --> 110.7 question 110.7 --> 111.06 is, 111.06 --> 111.48 poll 111.48 --> 111.78 five, 111.78 --> 111.84 that 111.84 --> 112.08 you're 112.08 --> 112.38 increasing 112.38 --> 112.5 the 112.5 --> 113.34 50,000? 113.4 --> 113.58 Where 113.58 --> 113.88 exactly

[MPSGraph runWithFeeds:targetTensors:targetOperations:] randomly crash
I'm implementing an LLM with Metal Performance Shader Graph, but encountered a very strange behavior, occasionally, the model will report an error message as this: LLVM ERROR: SmallVector unable to grow. Requested capacity (9223372036854775808) is larger than maximum value for size type (4294967295) and crash, the stack backtrace screenshot is attached. Note that 5th frame is mlir::getIntValues<long long> and 6th frame is llvm::SmallVectorBase<unsigned int>::grow_pod It looks like mlir mistakenly took a 64 bit value for a 32 bit type. Unfortunately, I could not found the source code of mlir::getIntValues, maybe it's Apple's closed source fork of llvm for MPS implementation? Anyway, any opinion or suggestion on that?

Can MPSGraphExecutable automatically leverage Apple Neural Engine (ANE) for inference?
Hi, I'm currently using Metal Performance Shaders Graph (MPSGraphExecutable) to run neural network inference operations as part of a metal rendering pipeline. I also tried to profile the usage of neural engine when running inference using MPSGraphExecutable but the graph shows no sign of neural engine usage. However, when I used the coreML model inspection tool in xcode and run performance report, it was able to use ANE. Does MPSGraphExecutable automatically utilize the Apple Neural Engine (ANE) when running inference operations, or does it only execute on GPU? My model (Core ML Package) was converted from a pytouch model using coremltools with ML program type and support iOS17.0+. Any insights or documentation references would be greatly appreciated!

Named Entity Recognition Model for Measurements
In an under-development MacOS & iOS app, I need to identify various measurements from OCR'ed text: length, weight, counts per inch, area, percentage. The unit type (e.g. UnitLength) needs to be identified as well as the measurement's unit (e.g. .inches) in order to convert the measurement to the app's internal standard (e.g. centimetres), the value of which is stored the relevant CoreData entity. The use of NLTagger and NLTokenizer is problematic because of the various representations of the measurements: e.g. "50g.", "50 g", "50 grams", "1 3/4 oz." Currently, I use a bespoke algorithm based on String contains and step-wise evaluation of characters, which is reasonably accurate but requires frequent updating as further representations are detected. I'm aware of the Python SpaCy model being capable of NER Measurement recognition, but am reluctant to incorporate a Python-based solution into a production app. (ref [https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/30092]) My preference is for an open-source NER Measurement model that can be used as, or converted to, some form of a Swift compatible Machine Learning model. Does anyone know of such a model?

Core ML .mlpackage not found in bundle despite target membership and Copy Bundle Resources
Hi everyone, I’m working on an iOS app that uses a Core ML model to run live image recognition. I’ve run into a persistent issue with the mlpackage not being turned into a swift class. This following error is in the code, and in carDetection.mlpackage, it says that model class has not been generated yet. The error in the code is as follows: What I’ve tried: Verified Target Membership is checked for carDetectionModel.mlpackage Confirmed the file is listed under Copy Bundle Resources (and removed from Compile Sources) Cleaned the build folder (Shift + Cmd + K) and rebuilt Renamed and re-added the .mlpackage file Restarted Xcode and re-added the file Logged bundle contents at runtime, but the .mlpackage still doesn’t appear The mlpackage is in Copy bundle resources, and is not in the compile sources. I just don't know why a swift class is not being generated for the mlpackage. Could someone please give me some guidance on what to do to resolve this issue? Sorry if my error is a bit naive, I'm pretty new to iOS app development
