How to Configure angularLimitInYZ for PhysicsSphericalJoint in RealityKit (Pendulum/Swing Behavior)
Hello RealityKit developers, I'm currently working on physics simulations in my visionOS app and am trying to adapt the concepts from the official sample Simulating physics joints in your RealityKit app. In the sample, a sphere is connected to the ceiling using a PhysicsRevoluteJoint to create a hinge-like simulation. I've successfully modified this setup to use a PhysicsSphericalJoint instead. The basic replacement works as expected: pin1 (attached to the sphere) rotates freely around pin0 (attached to the ceiling), much like a ball-and-socket joint should, removing all translational degrees of freedom. My challenge lies with the PhysicsSphericalJoint's angularLimitInYZ property. The documentation mentions that this property allows limiting the rotation around the Y and Z axes, defining an "elliptical cone shape around the x-axis of pin0." However, I'm struggling to understand how to specify these values to achieve a desired rotational limit. If I have a sphere that is currently capable of rotating 360 degrees around pin0 (like a free-spinning ball on a string), how would I use angularLimitInYZ to restrict its rotation to a certain height or angular range, preventing it from completing a full circle? Specifically, I'm trying to achieve a "swing" like behavior where the sphere oscillates back and forth but cannot rotate completely overhead or underfoot. What values or approach should I use for the angularLimitInYZ tuple to define such a restricted pendulum-like motion? Any insights, code examples, or explanations on how to properly configure angularLimitInYZ for this kind of behavior would be incredibly helpful! The following code is modified from the sample. extension MainView { func addPinsTo(ballEntity: Entity, attachmentEntity: Entity) throws { let hingeOrientation = simd_quatf(from: [1, 0, 0], to: [0, 0, 1]) let attachmentPin = attachmentEntity.pins.set( named: "attachment_hinge", position: .zero, orientation: hingeOrientation ) let relativeJointLocation = attachmentEntity.position( relativeTo: ballEntity ) let ballPin = ballEntity.pins.set( named: "ball_hinge", position: relativeJointLocation, orientation: hingeOrientation ) // Create a PhysicsSphericalJoint between the two pins. let revoluteJoint = PhysicsSphericalJoint(pin0: attachmentPin, pin1: ballPin) try revoluteJoint.addToSimulation() } } The following image is a screenshot of the operation when changing to PhysicsSphericalJoint. Thank you in advance for your assistance.

Game Center SignIn alert appears on macOS 26 (Tahoe) without capability or entitlement
Hello, On macOS 26 (Tahoe), when building a OSX app that includes GameKit code, calling GKLocalPlayer.local.authenticateHandler shows the "Sign In to Game Center" alert (e.g. didShowFullscreenSignIn) — even if the app does not have the Game Center capability enabled or any related entitlement (com.apple.developer.game-center). This alert only appears when the user is not signed in to Game Center in system settings. However, when testing the same code path on iOS app built with macOS 26 (Tahoe), the alert does not appear unless the proper capability and entitlement are included. This behavior is different from macOS 15 (Sequoia) + Xcode 15.x. Prior to the update, Game Center features did not work at all even with the OSX app without Capability and Entitlements. Steps to Reproduce Create a new OSX app target (App Sandbox enabled, no Game Center capability). Add minimal GameKit code: GKLocalPlayer.local.authenticateHandler = { _, _, _ in } Build OSX app and run on macOS 26 (Tahoe). Ensure Game Center is signed out in System Settings. Observe: “Sign In to Game Center” alert appears automatically. Expected Behavior When Game Center capability and entitlement are not present, authenticateHandler should fail silently, and no signIn alert should appear. Actual Behavior On OSX app, the Game Center signIn UI appears even without any Game Center capability or entitlement. On iOS app, this alert does not appear. *Build Configuration: built with the same condition. (macOS 26 + Xcode 26) Question Could you please confirm whether this behavior is an intentional change in macOS 26 or a bug only for OSX apps in the GameKit authentication flow? Thank you.

Animating a RealityComposerPro shader's uniform input value
I'm trying to build a Shader in "Reality Composer Pro" that updates from a start time. Initially I tried the following: The idea was that when the startTime was 0, the output would be 0, but then I would set startTime from within code and this would be compared with the current GPU time, and difference used to drive another part of the shader graph: if let testEntity = root.findEntity(named: "Test"), var shaderGraphMaterial = testEntity.components[ModelComponent.self]?.materials.first as? ShaderGraphMaterial { let time = CFAbsoluteTimeGetCurrent() try! shaderGraphMaterial.setParameter(name: "StartTime", value: .float(Float(time))) testEntity.components[ModelComponent.self]?.materials[0] = shaderGraphMaterial } However, I haven't found a reference to the time the shader would be using. So now I am trying to write an EntityAction to achieve the same effect. Instead of comparing a start time to the GPU's time I'm trying to animate one of the shader's uniform input. However, I'm not sure how to specify the bind target. Here's my attempt so far: import RealityKit struct ShaderAction: EntityAction { let startValue: Float let targetValue: Float var animatedValueType: (any AnimatableData.Type)? { Float.self } static func registerEntityAction() { ShaderAction.subscribe(to: .updated) { event in guard let animationState = event.animationState else { return } let value = simd_mix(event.action.startValue, event.action.targetValue, Float(animationState.normalizedTime)) animationState.storeAnimatedValue(value) } } } extension Entity { func updateShader(from startValue: Float, to targetValue: Float, duration: Double) { let fadeAction = ShaderAction(startValue: startValue, targetValue: targetValue) if let shaderAnimation = try? AnimationResource.makeActionAnimation(for: fadeAction, duration: duration, bindTarget: .material(0).customValue) { playAnimation(shaderAnimation) } } } ''' Currently when I run this I get an assertion failure: 'Index out of range (operator[]:line 797) index = 260, max = 8' Furthermore, even if it didn't crash I don't understand how to pass a binding to the custom shader value "startValue". Any clues of how to achieve this effect - even if it's a completely different way.

How do I test a new leaderboard added to a Published app with prior leaderboard?
Hi I have attempted to find a fix for my issue via documentation online and one phone support ( not code level support ) call to no end. I could continue to try various things but would like to see if someone else has encountered this issue and a fix for it. Background: My Game app is live on App Store and has 1 classic leaderboard . I am now getting ready to submit an update to the app and it also entails adding a new recurring leaderboard. I added the leaderboard in App Store. I however have NOT uploaded my new build yet. I have also not added my leaderboards ( currently live and not live ) to any set. When I try to submit scores using GKLeaderboard.submitScore(_:context:player:leaderboardIDs:completionHandler:) to the new non-live leaderboard it works ( gives me no error ) When I try to load the scores from the new non-live leaderboard GKLeaderboard.loadLeaderboards(IDs:completionHandler:) loadEntries(for:timeScope:range:completionHandler:) it fails. Error: "leaderboardID not found" I could try ( and will ) uploading the new build to AppStore connect and associating the new leaderboard to it before testing again. try associating each leaderboard to a set Is there anything else that I should be aware of ? Thanks in advance

Scenekit view and scenekit editor color difference
Hello there, I'm having trouble matching what I see in the scenekit editor and the output of the resulting scene in a scnview. For a glitter effect I have set a high value on the diffuse intensity which looks fine in the editor but when running the game the colors are much darker. To see if the intensity value is merely capped I have set the same multiplier on the hat below - but it is blown out which looks to me like there is some grading going on I have tried to switch on hdr rendering but that didn't make a difference. I tried disabling linear rendering and that simply made everything darker still - which I expect. Does someone have an idea what else this could be? What rendering is the scenekit editor using and how can I match it? Interestingly when I take a screenshot of the editor window for this post, the image is also blown out... what is going on? :) Thanks so much for any pointers, Seb

Firebase not initializing in iOS Unreal Engine 5.6 app (using MetaHuman + FirebaseFeatures)
Hi everyone, I'm building a native iOS app using Unreal Engine 5.6 with Firebase for authentication and Firestore. The app uses a MetaHuman avatar and is meant to run as a standalone UE app on iPhone. I'm using this Firebase wrapper: 👉 https://pandoa.github.io/FirebaseFeatures/ I've followed all the steps, including: Adding GoogleService-Info.plist to the Xcode project and ensuring it’s in the correct target Calling FIRApp.configure() in AppDelegate Verifying the plist is bundled correctly However, the app crashes on launch, and Firebase does not initialize properly. Crash log shows: [FirebaseCore][I-COR000005] No app has been configured yet. Setup details: Unreal Engine: 5.6 (source build, macOS) iOS Deployment: 17.5 MetaHuman character packaged correctly and app launches fine without Firebase Has anyone here managed to get Firebase working inside a native Unreal Engine iOS app with this setup? I'd love to hear if there’s something I’m missing — maybe something with initialization timing or module loading? Thanks so much in advance 🙏

Xcode Vulkan is opening two windows instead of one.
I'm a newbee at Vulkan and Xcode. I have my project on github https://github.com/flocela/OrangeSpider/ Whenever I run, two windows open instead of only one. I added testing, which means I have an OrangeSpider.xctestplan in the OrangeSpider/TestsOrangeSpider/ folder. This is my first time adding testing to an XCode project, so I think this may be where the problem is. I also get this error message: ViewBridge to RemoteViewService Terminated: Error Domain=com.apple.ViewBridge Code=18 "(null)" UserInfo={com.apple.ViewBridge.error.hint=this process disconnected remote view controller -- benign unless unexpected, com.apple.ViewBridge.error.description=NSViewBridgeErrorCanceled}

Game Rejected as Spam
My app is being rejected and all I'm being told is that it is spam. I've tried improving various aspects of the game, but I just receive the same copy and paste rejection message each time. I have no idea if I'm moving in the right direction or what part of my game needs to be changed or improved. Is there a game quality benchmark document or some kind of resource I can use to better understand why my game is being rejected and how to bring it to a level that meets apple's standards.

EntityAction for MaterialBaseTint - incorrect colours
Hello, I'm writing an EntityAction that animates a material base tint between two different colours. However, the colour that is being actually set differs in RGB values from that requested. For example, trying to set an end target of R0.5, G0.5, B0.5, results in a value of R0.735357, G0.735357, B0.735357. I can also see during the animation cycle that intermediate actual tint values are also incorrect, versus those being set. My understanding is the the values of material base colour are passed as a SIMD4. Therefore I have a couple of helper extensions to convert a UIColor into this format and mix between two colours. Note however, I don't think the issue is with this functions - even if their outputs are wrong, the final value of the base tint doesn't match the value being set. I wondered if this was a colour space issue? import simd import RealityKit import UIKit typealias Float4 = SIMD4<Float> extension Float4 { func mixedWith(_ value: Float4, by mix: Float) -> Float4 { Float4( simd_mix(x, value.x, mix), simd_mix(y, value.y, mix), simd_mix(z, value.z, mix), simd_mix(w, value.w, mix) ) } } extension UIColor { var float4: Float4 { var r: CGFloat = 0.0 var g: CGFloat = 0.0 var b: CGFloat = 0.0 var a: CGFloat = 0.0 getRed(&r, green: &g, blue: &b, alpha: &a) return Float4(Float(r), Float(g), Float(b), Float(a)) } } struct ColourAction: EntityAction { let startColour: SIMD4<Float> let targetColour: SIMD4<Float> var animatedValueType: (any AnimatableData.Type)? { SIMD4<Float>.self } init(startColour: UIColor, targetColour: UIColor) { self.startColour = startColour.float4 self.targetColour = targetColour.float4 } static func registerEntityAction() { ColourAction.subscribe(to: .updated) { event in guard let animationState = event.animationState else { return } let interpolatedColour = event.action.startColour.mixedWith(event.action.targetColour, by: Float(animationState.normalizedTime)) animationState.storeAnimatedValue(interpolatedColour) } } } extension Entity { func updateColour(from currentColour: UIColor, to targetColour: UIColor, duration: Double, endAction: @escaping (Entity) -> Void = { _ in }) { let colourAction = ColourAction(startColour: currentColour, targetColour: targetColour, endedAction: endAction) if let colourAnimation = try? AnimationResource.makeActionAnimation(for: colourAction, duration: duration, bindTarget: .material(0).baseColorTint) { playAnimation(colourAnimation) } } } The EntityAction can only be applied to an entity with a ModelComponent (because of the material), so it can be called like so: guard let modelComponent = entity.components[ModelComponent.self], let material = modelComponent.materials.first as? PhysicallyBasedMaterial else { return } let currentColour = material.baseColor.tint let targetColour = UIColor(_colorLiteralRed: 0.5, green: 0.5, blue: 0.5, alpha: 1.0) entity.updateColour(from:currentColour, to: targetColour, duration: 2)

Why slower with larger threadgroup memory?
I'm implementing optimized matmul on metal: https://github.com/crynux-ai/metal-matmul/blob/main/metal/1_shared_mem.metal I notice that performance is significantly different with different threadgroup memory set in [computeEncoder setThreadgroupMemoryLength] All other lines are exactly same, the only difference is this parameter. Matmul performance is roughly 250 GFLops if I set 32768 (max bytes allowed on this M1 Max), but 400 GFLops if I set 8192. Why does this happen? How can I optimize it?

Utilizing Point Cloud data from `ObjectCaptureSession` in WWDC23
I am currently developing a mobile and server-side application using the new ObjectCaptureSession on iOS and PhotogrammetrySession on MacOS. I have two questions regarding the newly updated APIs. From WWDC23 session: "Meet Object Capture for iOS", I know that the Object Capture API uses Point Cloud data captured from iPhone LiDAR sensor. I want to know how to use the Point Cloud data captured on iPhone ObjectCaptureSession and use it to create 3D models on PhotogrammetrySession on MacOS. From the example code from WWDC21, I know that the PhotogrammetrySession utilizes depth map from captured photo images by embedding it into the HEIC image and use those data to create a 3D asset on PhotogrammetrySession on MacOS. I would like to know if Point Cloud data is also embedded into the image to be used during 3D reconstruction and if not, how else the Point Cloud data is inserted to be used during reconstruction. Another question is, I know that Point Cloud data is returned as a result from request to the PhtogrammetrySession.Request. I would like to know if this PointCloud data is the same set of data captured during ObjectCaptureSession from WWDC23 that is used to create ObjectCapturePointCloudView. Thank you to everyone for the help in advance. It's a real pleasure to be developing with all the updates to RealityKit and the Object Capture API.

Matchmaking issue on tvOS with GKMatchmakerViewController.Request
Hello ! We are working on a real-time 2-player online game targeting multiple Apple devices. The following issue only occurs on tvOS: When selecting matchmaking to connect with another random player, the native Game Center interface opens and begins the matchmaking process. Almost immediately after clicking "start", the following log appears in the console, and the matchmaking screen remains indefinitely without completing: Timeout while starting matching with request: <GKMatchRequestInternal 0x30d62f690> { defaultNumberOfPlayers : 0 isLateJoin : 0 localPlayerID : U:bea182d69b85f0839e3958742fbc4609 matchType : 0 maxPlayers : 2 minPlayers : 2 playerAttributes : 4294967295 playerGroup : 1 preloadedMatch : 0 recipientPlayerIDs : <__NSArrayM 0x3034ed5c0> {} recipients : <__NSArrayM 0x3034ee280> {} restrictToAutomatch : 0 version : 1 archivedSharePlayInviteeTokensFromProgrammaticInvite, inviteMessage, localizableInviteMessage, messagesBasedRecipients, properties, queueName, recipientProperties, rid, sessionToken : (null) } . Error: (null) However, as shown in the code snippet below, the task does not complete when the log appears. But when we manually cancel the matchmaking process, the "User cancel" log is correctly triggered. var gkMatchRequest = GKMatchRequest.Init(); gkMatchRequest.MinPlayers = 2; gkMatchRequest.MaxPlayers = 2; var matchRequestTask = GKMatchmakerViewController.Request(gkMatchRequest); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.LogException(t.Exception); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnFaulted); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.Log("User cancel"); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnCanceled); matchRequestTask.ContinueWith(t => { Debug.Log("Success"); }, TaskContinuationOptions.OnlyOnRanToCompletion); We have tested this on multiple Apple TV and network types (Wi-Fi, 5G, Ethernet), but we consistently encounter this bug along with the same log message. Could you please help us understand or resolve this issue? Thank you.

Background GPU Access availability
I would love to use Background GPU Access to do some video processing in the background. However the documentation of BGContinuedProcessingTaskRequest.Resources.gpu clearly states: Not all devices support background GPU use. For more information, see Performing long-running tasks on iOS and iPadOS. Is there a list available of currently released devices that do (or don't) support GPU background usage? That would help to understand what part of our user base can use this feature. (And what hardware we need to test this on as developers.) For example it seems that it isn't supported on an iPad Pro M1 with the current iOS 26 beta. The simulators also seem to not support the background GPU resource. So would be great to understand what hardware is capable of using this feature!

Unity GameKit plugin beta GameKit Activity UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion
I’m running into unexpected problems with the Unity GameKit plugin setup with the new Activities. I didn’t see anyone else mentioning these issues, so my guess is that it’s a problem with my setup. The authentication (GKLocalPlayer.Authenticate()) works as expected, but any call to the new GameActivity functionality (e.g. GKGameActivityDefinition.LoadGameActivityDefinitions() or GKGameActivity.WantsToPlay) gives me an exception with a 'UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion' reason despite it running on an iOS 18.6.1 device. I’m using a completely empty Unity 2022.3.62f1 project that only contains the official authentication example, followed by an event handler for activities from another example and the Unity core and gamekit plugins. The setup: macOS 15.6 Xcode 26 beta 6 (also tried with 5) Physical iPhone device running iOS 18.6.1 Unity 2022.3.62f1, which satisfies the requirements Unity plugin, Xcode setup, and build steps: I Followed the official beta branch build steps for Unity plugins with python3 build.py -m iOS iPhoneSimulator macOS -p Core GameKit which ran through after a slight modification for the macOS target that somehow contained an unknown team reference for the GameKitWrapper project, which I changed to not reference a team and use ‘sign to run locally’, as was the case for the other packages. As far as I understood the macOS version is not strictly necessary either way just for running it on a local iOS device(?) I Imported these as tarball packages into the empty Unity 2022.3.62f1 project as per the official instructions, which seems to work as expected Added a single script with the mentioned example code added in a MonoBehavior.Start Building in Unity works as expected as well, creating the Xcode project The Unity-iPhone target has the GameKit framework linked (’do not embed’) and the GameCenter capability was added automatically as expected The GameKit framework seems to not be added to the UnityFramework target, but I don’t think this is necessary? Quickly testing this with the GameKit framework added there as well didn’t make a difference The linked GameKit framework is indeed the expected Xcode 26 beta version I can then build and run this on the physical iPhone iOS 18.6.1 device, where I get an ‘UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion’ as soon as I try to subscribe to deeplinking events (GKGameActivity.WantsToPlay) or use other GameKit Activity functionality from the official examples: // log showing that it's actually running on iOS 18.6: [Apple.Core Plug-In Runtime] Availability Runtime Environment: iOS 18.6 Apple.Core.Availability:OnApplicationStart() // and the exception I get: GameKitException: Code=-7 Domain=GKErrorDomain Description=The operation couldn’t be completed. (GKErrorDomain error -7.) (UnsupportedOperationForOSVersion) at Apple.GameKit.DefaultNSErrorHandler.ThrowNSError (System.IntPtr nsErrorPtr) [0x00000] in <00000000000000000000000000000000>:0 Rethrow as TypeInitializationException: The type initializer for 'Apple.GameKit.GKGameActivity' threw an exception. I unfortunately didn’t find any clues as to why this happens and how to resolve it on this forum or otherwise. Changing the minimum iOS version - up to 18.6 from the previously used (Unity export default) 12.0 for any and all targets - did not yield a different result I'd rather not update the phone to use the iOS 26 beta, though as far as I understood this is not necessary Any pointers to what I might be missing or doing wrong are greatly appreciated! Thank you very much in advance!

MetalFX upscaler/denoiser and instant changes
Hi, What's the best way to handle drastic changes in scene charateristics with the new MTLFXTemporalDenoisedScaler? Let's say a visible object of the scene radically changes its material properties. I can modify the albedo and roughness textures consequently. But I suspect the history will be corrupted. Blending visual information between the new frame and the previous ones might be a nonsense. I guess the problem should be the same when objects appear or disappear instantly. Is the upsacler manage these events for us (by lowering blending), or should we use the reactive or the denoise strength mask or something like that to handle them?

Request: API to temporarily defer Reachability for fullscreen game swipes (bottom edge)
In swipe-driven games, a first downward swipe starting near the home indicator can trigger Reachability, even when using preferredScreenEdgesDeferringSystemGestures = .bottom and prefersHomeIndicatorAutoHidden = true. This causes the app to slide down to half screen and breaks gameplay. Please consider an API to temporarily defer Reachability while a custom gesture is active (similar to existing system gesture deferral), without disabling accessibility globally. Environment: Devices: iPhones with Home Indicator (Face ID) Why this matters: Bottom-origin swipes are core in many games (flick shots, slingshot, physics toss, bottom sheets). Current workarounds degrade UX and discoverability, and players still accidentally trigger Reachability. Feedback Assistant Post

RealityKit generates an excessive amount of logging
During regular use, RealityKit generates an excessive amount of internal logging that is not actionable by third party developers. When developing an iOS RealityKit/ARKit app, this makes the Xcode console challenging to use for regular work. (FB19173812) See screenshots below. Xcode does have an option for filtering out logging from specific SDKs, but enabling this feature to suppress the logging of RealityKit and related SDKs like PHASE is something developers have to do dozens of times each day. After a year of developing a RealityKit app, this process becomes frustrating. If SDKs like Foundation, UIKit, and SwiftUI generated as much logging as RealityKit and related SDKs, Xcode's console would be unusable. Is there any way to disable the logging of RealityKit and PHASE permanently? Thank you for any help you provide.

Unity PolySpatia
Hello, We are experiencing an issue with apparent lag or latency when interacting with objects in Unity using the XR Interaction Toolkit. Even when interactables are configured with the Movement Type set to Instantaneous, objects exhibit a noticeable delay when following hand movement. This issue is particularly apparent when the hand moves at higher speeds. We would like to know: is any additional configuration required, or is there something else we need to do to resolve this? Thank you very much for your assistance.
