It's maddening. I just opened a file and now it's gone because I had the audacity to open another file. I've learned that I can double click the tab of the first file to make it a permanent tab... but, of course, I'll need to do that every time I ever open any file ever, and if I close that file and come back to it later I'm going to be constantly having to double click tabs just to make Xcode stop replacing my tabs for me.
It's nuts. It's driving me insane.
Please. Is there any way to just DISABLE the temporary tabs behavior? I don't find it helpful in any way and I find it to be destructive to my development workflows.

macOS Version 15.3.2 (Build 24D81)
After initiating via Shift/Command/0 the Developer Documentation Window, the indexing of v277 index structure is starting /Users/[name]/Library/Developer/Xcode/DocumentationCache/
==> but unfortunately not ending!
Activity Monitor reports during hours high CPU (~80%) for Xcode process, but the indexing does not stop or end.
After hours it is still around 146 MB instead of about 550 MB as in previous releases.
Indexing starts with 11 or more threads, but suddenly it drops to 10 threads and seems stopping, still using cpu.
Also restarting Xcode does not help.
Process restarts but after some minutes seems to hang or stuck around 200MB indexed.
Also removing subfolders does not help. (NSOperatingSystemVersion(majorVersion/ 16, minorVersion/ 3, patchVersion/ 0)
they are recreated but index still stucks after some time.
No clue. will reverting back to 16.3 beta2

Hey all, I recently updated to Xcode 26.2 and I'm having the hardest time trying to download the corresponding iOS simulator. I installed Xcode from developer downloads and the app did not come loaded with an iOS simulator. When trying to download from Components in Settings, I only get the following message:
Download failed due to a bad URL. (Catalog download for com.apple.MobileAsset.iOSSimulatorRuntime)
Domain: com.apple.MobileAssetError.Download
Code: 49
User Info: {
checkConfiguration = 1;
}
I also tried downloading via Terminal but also get a download failed message. I am on the latest macOS and have over 600 GB of disk space available. In previous versions, I was able to download the iOS simulator directly from Developer Downloads, but anything after 26 is not there. Any suggestions?

I came across several "errors" being reported when I run my app, however my app seems to function correctly.
I believe they fall in the category listed on this ( now locked ) thread https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/115461
However, I wanted to post the ones I found to clarify ( close to submission) just in case any of these end up being more than just log noise later. PLEASE let me know if you've come across these before and whether they impacted anything or if you can confirm they are just log noise. Thanks in advance!

I am trying to upgrade my app to use Xcode 26 and I cannot get my tests to launch.
I am trying to launch tests to the simulator, and I always get this error after 300 second timeout:
"encountered an error (The test runner hung before establishing connection.)"
There are no other errors getting logged.
I can run to the same simulator just fine, and in Xcode 16 the tests launch with no issues.
The tests also run fine on an actual iPhone.
Thanks in advance.
I installed the third beta of Xcode 26 with Xcode 16.4 installed on my machine. Once Xcode 26 was installed, all of my previous simulators were wiped out, leaving only the default iOS 26 simulators. I cannot create new simulators for iOS versions below 26. Here are my failed attempts to fix the issue:
Restarted Xcode 16.4 and my machine
Reinstalled the iOS 18.5 runtime
Uninstalled Xcode 26 and iOS 26 runtime
Reinstalled Xcode 16.4
Now, I literally cannot use a simulator in Xcode 16.4. Here is what I see when I try to create a new simulator in Xcode 16.4:
According to Xcode, the iOS 18.5 runtime is installed, so I have no idea what is going on. Is this a known issue? And how do I get Xcode 16.4 working with the iOS simulator?
Dear Apple Developer Forum!
I'm in need of help regarding an issue that has to do with binaries.
I'm building an iOS App that needs a fingerprint of its binaries, exclusively based on the source code written. A "reproducible" build, meaning that when I compile it on my machine and run checksum on it, the output (hash) will be the same, as if another device clones the project, compiles and checksums the values.
The App depends on swift packages which depends on Swift Packages, which I've managed to compile to .o files, convert to .a files (static frameworks) and create xcframeworks, which the App depends on. They work great, once compiled, their checksum value does not change when App is compiled (unless source code of them is changed of course), but the Apps executable (checksummed inside the IPA) changes every time it's compiled. I'm guessing that perhaps the Xcode compiler injects a timestamp or other unique identifier in the binaries?
Is there any way to have "reproducible" builds on iOS (Swift Xcode)?
All input is greatly appreciated,
Thank you very much,
Kind regards Johan.
Since the latest Xcode has become available users in our environment are seeing this error any time they try to launch a simulator (Primarily iOS devices, but others provided the same error) We have tested on 16.4 and 26.0.1 with various suggested fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling all of Xcode. Nothing has helped.
When I compile my Xcode project using the xcodebuild command, I observe long incremental build durations. For example, compiling a new, empty project in Xcode only takes around one second. The same project takes 7 seconds to compile using the xcodebuild command. I've noticed that xcodebuild hangs at the "GatherProvisioningInputs" phase.
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a new Xcode project (iOS app template)
Build the project in Xcode with timing summary enabled
Build the same project from the command line with the following command:
time xcodebuild -destination 'platform=iOS Simulator,name=iPhone 15 Pro,OS=latest'
I would appreciate any insights or suggestions on how to improve the build times when using the xcodebuild command. Thank you in advance for your help!
Hi everyone,
After updating my Mac and Xcode to 26, I’m running into a consistent crash whenever I try to launch an app from Xcode.
Environment:
Mac: Apple Silicon M3
macOS: 26.0 (25A354)
Xcode: 26.0.1 (17A400)
Issue:
When I press Run on any project (including new, empty projects), Xcode immediately crashes.
This started only after updating to the latest macOS and Xcode.
Crash details:
The crash log shows:
Application Specific Signatures:
___localError
Thread 0 crashed inside -[IDEScheme _executionOperationForSchemeOperationParameters:...] from IDEFoundation/IDEKit.
I also noticed background threads calling DVTPortal (developer portal requests) right before the crash.
What I’ve tried so far:
Cleared DerivedData, ModuleCache.noindex, and Xcode caches.
Signed out/in of my Apple ID in Xcode.
Recreated project schemes.
Verified provisioning profiles.
Reinstalled Xcode 26.
Unfortunately, the crash still happens.
Question:
Is this a known issue with Xcode 26 on Apple Silicon (M3)?
Has anyone seen a workaround?
Any guidance would be greatly appreciated — I can’t currently launch apps in Xcode at all.
Thanks!

I recently switched to Mac OS 12 and XCode 13. I did some work on my application and rebuilt it. Now there is no Help Book. I didn't change the property lists and everything looks right. When I open the Help Book the application either opens a window with a message that the content is currently unavailable or it opens a Help Book window with no content. When this second thing happens the log window shows "entering AHRegistered help Book" but it doesn't appear. Does anyone have any suggestions?
Hi everyone, I think this is a simple issue.
I got the following error message"
"PreviewDevice is ignored in a #Preview macro. Use the device picker at the bottom of the Canvas to change which device type is used for the preview. (from macro 'Preview')"
after this line:
".previewDevice(PreviewDevice(rawValue: "iPhone 17 Pro"))"
But in my Canvas I do not see the device picker.
Thank you.

I'm building and running from Xcode 26 to macOS 15.5. On launch, app crashes on start dynamic runtime linking with failure to find _LocationEssentials framework.
Hey Apple Team!
We recently updated to Xcode 16 and saw a massive memory spike, which caused "Out of memory" Mac warnings in the final stages of our app's build process.
We noticed that the process responsible for this is "EmbeddedBinaryValidationUtility" (see screenshot).
Is there a workaround to limit its memory usage? This is causing significant anguish for our developers.

Hi everyone, (you can answer in french)
I’m french-rookie in xcode, and I have a problem:
I’m trying to choice my custom font to add it in my Main.storyboard button, but it not works.
I have my « Font provided by application » line in my Info.plist, with the name of my font in [0]
(See images below)
When I’m on storyboard button, I chose « custom » in font selector, then display font list but my custom font doesn’t appear.
I already tried to install the font in my mac, but still stucked, nothing change 😭
Could you help me please?
Thanks a lot
(I specify that I scrupulously followed the way of doing explained on the Apple official page:
Adding a Custom Font to Your App )
Hi!
In neither Xcode 16.2 beta 3 nor Xcode 16.2 I am able to get App Shortcuts Preview to recognise my Shortcuts. In either supported language I always get "No Matching Intent" as the result.
Flexible matching is enabled, minimum deployment target is iOS 18. The Shortcut phrases do work in the simulator and on device.
Is this a known issue or am I missing something?
So I have a MacOS application that was working just fine before Xcode 16. The Widgets are not working anymore.
The main application and the widgets share a file in a common App Group.
The widget app now get a permission error when accessing the file.
Also, the Widget Kit simulator keeps crashing.
I also try to start a new project in Xcode, add a target with a Widget extension with an App Intent and run it, and it also crashes.
Sometimes, it doesn't crash but just display the error: "Failed to load widget. The operation couldn't be completed. (WidgetKit_Simulator.WidgetDocument.Error error 2.).
Edited to attach WidgetKit error log

I've recently installed 26.1 Beta 3 alongside stable 26.0.1
When building my app with 26.0.1 the final .ipa size is ~17mb, however after building my app with 26.1 Beta 3 the size has increased up to ~22mb
The main difference is Assets.car blowing from 1.1mb to 5.6mb (or 8.6mb if I include all icons settings). Upon examining I've found new liquid glass .icon file duplicating itself multiple times as png variants (any, dark, tinted, etc).
Is anyone else experiencing this issue?
