I am able to block apps using FamilyControl and Shield. Unblocking is also simple—just assign nil to store.shield.applications. However, I want to unblock them even when the app is not open.
Use case: Let's say the app allows users to create a session where a particular app is blocked for a specific duration. Once the session starts, the app should remain blocked, and as soon as the session time ends, it should automatically be unblocked.
Please help me with this. Thank you!

I'm trying to build an app with a DeviceActivityMonitor extension that executes some code after 15 minutes. I can confirm that the extension is set up correctly and that intervalDidStart is executed, but for some reason the intervalDidEnd method never gets called. What I'm doing in both is just registering a local notification.
class DeviceActivityMonitorExtension: DeviceActivityMonitor {
let store = ManagedSettingsStore()
override func intervalDidStart(for activity: DeviceActivityName) {
createPushNotification(
title: "Session activated!",
body: ""
)
super.intervalDidStart(for: activity)
}
override func intervalDidEnd(for activity: DeviceActivityName) {
createPushNotification(
title: "Session ended",
body: ""
)
super.intervalDidEnd(for: activity)
}
private func createPushNotification(title: String, body: String) {
let content = UNMutableNotificationContent()
content.title = title
content.body = body
// Configure the recurring date.
var dateComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: Date().addingTimeInterval(1.0))
dateComponents.calendar = Calendar.current
dateComponents.timeZone = TimeZone.current
// Create the trigger as a repeating event.
let trigger = UNCalendarNotificationTrigger(dateMatching: dateComponents, repeats: false)
let uuidString = UUID().uuidString
let request = UNNotificationRequest(identifier: uuidString, content: content, trigger: trigger)
// Schedule the request with the system.
let notificationCenter = UNUserNotificationCenter.current()
notificationCenter.add(request)
}
}
And this is the method that is starting the monitoring session:
@objc public static func startSession() -> String? {
// Calculate start and end times
let center = DeviceActivityCenter()
let minutes = 15
let startDate = Date().addingTimeInterval(1)
guard let endDate = Calendar.current.date(byAdding: .minute, value: minutes, to: startDate) else {
return "Failed to create end date?"
}
// Create date components and explicitly set the calendar and timeZone
let startComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: startDate)
let endComponents = Calendar.current.dateComponents([.era, .year, .month, .day, .hour, .minute, .second], from: endDate)
// Create schedule
let schedule = DeviceActivitySchedule(
intervalStart: startComponents,
intervalEnd: endComponents,
repeats: false
)
print("Now", Date())
print("Start", startDate, startComponents)
print("End", endDate, endComponents)
print(schedule.nextInterval)
do {
// Use a consistent activity name for our simple implementation
let activity = DeviceActivityName("SimpleSession")
try center.startMonitoring(activity, during: schedule)
return nil
} catch {
return "Failed to start monitoring: \(error)"
}
}
I can confirm my dates & date components make sense with the 4 print statements. Here is the output:
Now 2025-02-12 04:21:32 +0000
Start 2025-02-12 04:21:33 +0000 era: 1 year: 2025 month: 2 day: 11 hour: 20 minute: 21 second: 33 isLeapMonth: false
End 2025-02-12 04:36:33 +0000 era: 1 year: 2025 month: 2 day: 11 hour: 20 minute: 36 second: 33 isLeapMonth: false
Optional(2025-02-12 04:21:33 +0000 to 2025-02-12 04:36:33 +0000)
I get the Session activated! notification but never get the Session ended notification. Half an hour later, I've tried debugging the DeviceActivityCenter by printing out the activities property and can see that it is still there. When I try to print out the nextInterval property on the schedule object i get from calling center.schedule(for:), it returns nil.
I'm running this on an iPhone 8 testing device with developer mode enabled. It has iOS 16.7.10. I'm totally lost as to how to get this to work.

I have created a configuration profile which basically just turns off notifications for Shortcuts app but I am unable to install it on my iPhone as I am getting the following error “This profile can be installed on a supervised device only” can someone please help me with this? Would also appreciate if you have another way to turn off shortcuts notifications permanently since when I turn it off via screen time it keeps turning itself ON every couple of days.

If you are experiencing an unexpected or inconsistent behavior when using the App Store Server Library, review the following resources to ensure that your implementation workflow didn’t cause the issue:
Simplifying your implementation by using the App Store Server Library
Explore App Store server APIs for In-App Purchase
Meet the App Store Server Library
If you are unable to resolve your issue using the above resources, file a GitHub issue. Alternatively, if you wish to provide specific requests, transactions, or other private information for review, submit a Feedback Assistant report with the following information:
The bundleId or appAppleId of your app
The date and time your issue occurred
The library language(s)
The version of the library
The environment (i.e., Production, Sandbox, or Xcode)
The GitHub issue for this report if available
The endpoint(s) reproducing your issue
The HTTP body and headers of the endpoint raw request
The HTTP body and headers of the endpoint response
To submit the report, perform these steps:
Log into Feedback Assistant.
Click on the Compose icon to create a new report.
Select the Developer Tools & Resources topic.
In the sheet that appears:
Enter a title for your report.
Select “App Store Server Library” from the “Which area are you seeing an issue with?” pop-up menu.
Select “Incorrect/Unexpected Behavior” from the “What type of feedback are you reporting?” pop-up menu.
Enter a description of your issue and how to reproduce it.
Add the information gathered above to the sheet.
Submit your report.
After filing your report, please respond in your existing Developer Forums post with the Feedback Assistant ID. Use your Feedback Assistant ID to check for updates or resolutions. For more information, see Understanding feedback status.
When I quit the app from the background task list, CLLocationUpdate.liveUpdates does not resume properly and start location updates. However, if I kill the app directly, it can recover and start location updates.

I am testing the subscription flow in my iOS app. Initially, everything was working fine when following the official StoreKit and sandbox testing documentation. After a successful subscription, the “You’re all set” popup always displayed the environment as “sandbox.” However, after some changes, possibly upgrading macOS to the latest version, upgrading Xcode, or regenerating certificates, I can no longer connect to the sandbox testing environment. The subscription success popup now always shows the environment as “xcode.”
By default, the iOS app should run in the sandbox on macOS, so I didn’t set the “Enable App Sandbox” option to “Yes” in the Xcode build settings. When I try enabling it, Xcode throws the following error:
“Failed to verify code signature of /var/installd/Library/Caches/com.apple.mobile.installd.staging/temp.n3J0tr/extracted/Payload/XXXX.app : 0xe8008015 (A valid provisioning profile for this executable was not found.) Please ensure that your app is signed by a valid provisioning profile.”
Additionally, if “Enable App Sandbox” is set to “No,” the app installs successfully on a real device, but there is no prompt to trust an untrusted developer certificate, which usually appears for such certificates.
I’m not sure if this information will be useful to others, but I’ve been stuck on this issue for a while, and it’s preventing me from moving forward with my work. Any help to resolve this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Hi, I have an iPhone/watch app that measures walking/running distance. It starts a workout session records data successfully into healthkit and then ends the workout session. I can see the data in the Health app from my app and it all appears to be correct. The issue I'm having is that the Health app doesn't use my app's data in its total distance for the day. For example, I can add 1 mile of fake data (I know that's not allowed per policy) for testing and it gets successfully added but not used in the total. The health app is only using distances collected by the watch and the phone for calculating the total distance for the day and is ignoring the distance provided by my app. What could I be missing?

When are you guys going to fix the CarPlay issues with this new update? I use this for work and it’s really an issue. Nothing is working and it takes up entirely too much space.
I am working with Notification Content Extensions and need to ensure that the content fits within the notification without scrolling. I want to know if there is any API that can provide the maximum available height for the notification content area. My goal is to avoid making the content scrollable inside the notification. Is there a way to dynamically retrieve the height of the notification space, so I can properly adjust the content layout and ensure it fits perfectly without requiring the user to scroll?

Hi, all!
I am wondering about something about App Receipts. I'm using App Receipt hash to key some information server-side. I'm curious however, if that doesn't actually have a possible flaw. Is it possible to get a new receipt that would yield a different hash for the same transaction? Reinstalling the app, perhaps? Installing the app on a new phone? Basically, I want to make sure this hash is something I can rely on. If the user can get a new hash for the same purchase, that's obviously problematic.
Thanks!
Hello Apple Developers,
I’m developing an iOS app that requires access to the user’s contacts. I understand that starting from iOS 14, Apple introduced two levels of contact permissions:
1️⃣ Full Access – The app can read all contacts.
2️⃣ Limited Access – The app can only access contacts selected by the user.
My Question:
If a user initially grants Limited Access, is it allowed by Apple’s guidelines to request Full Access later?
🔹 I understand that re-requesting permission immediately after the user denies it is against Apple’s policies.
🔹 However, if the user has already granted Limited Access, and we first show an explanation modal explaining why Full Access is beneficial, can we then prompt them to change their settings via openAppSettings()?
🔹 Alternatively, can we use Permission.contacts.request() again to re-prompt the user for Full Access, or will iOS prevent the permission prompt from appearing again?
How We Handle This in the App:
1️⃣ If a user selects Limited Access, we respect their choice and only access their selected contacts.
2️⃣ Later, if Full Access is necessary for an enhanced experience, we display a clear explanation modal explaining why the app needs Full Access.
3️⃣ If the user agrees, we attempt to guide them to openAppSettings(), allowing them to manually change the permission.
4️⃣ However, if Permission.contacts.request() can be used to directly request Full Access again, we would like to know if this is acceptable.
We want to ensure that our implementation follows Apple’s privacy guidelines while providing the best user experience.
Any official guidance or best practices on this matter would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!
I am currently developing a custom-protocol VPN application for iOS using PacketTunnelProvider. I have also integrated an HTTP proxy service, which is launched via a dylib.
The overall flow is as follows:
App -> VPN TUN -> Local HTTP Proxy -> External Network
I have a question:
I am capturing all traffic, and normally, requests sent out by the HTTP proxy are also captured again by the VPN. However, when I send requests using createUdpSession in my code, they are not being captured by the virtual interface (TUN).
What could be the reason for this?
