Can I ensure location is saved to SwiftData within Share Extension lifetime?
I am writing a SwiftData/SwiftUI app in which the user saves simple records, tagged with their current location. Core Location can take up to 10 seconds to retrieve the current location from its requestLocation() call. I the main app I have wrapped the CLLocationManager calls with async implementations. I kick off a Task when a new record is created, and write the location to my @Model on the main thread when it completes. A realistic use of the share extension doesn't give the task enough time to complete. I can use performExpiringActivity to complete background processing after the share extension closes but this needs to be a synchronous block. Is there some way of using performExpiringActivity when relying on a delegate callback from something like Core Location?

Apple Mail and Drag&Drop
I have been trying to accept drops from Apple Mail which do supply data with type identifiers : com.apple.mail.email The problem is that even though the drop says it does contain items for com.apple.mail.email it does provide the items for com.apple.mail.email. Mail dropped from Microsoft Outlook however confirms to the protocols and returns the items for com.apple.mail.email Is this a known issue with Apple Mail and is there are reason for what seems to be a non-compliance to it own standards in Apple Mail?

Does Apple allow packed format attestation in passkey credential provider approach?
I am trying to implement a third party passkey credential provider and I have been able to successfully setup the project for that. Below is a sample code which I am using - let passkeyRegistrationCredential = ASPasskeyRegistrationCredential(relyingParty: self.request?.credentialIdentity.serviceIdentifier.identifier ?? "", clientDataHash: self.request?.clientDataHash ?? Data(), credentialID: Data(credentialId), attestationObject: Data(attestationBytes) self.extensionContext.completeRegistrationRequest(using: passkeyRegistrationCredential) The attestationBytes object that I am generating and sending back to RP seems to work only if I set the "fmt" to "none", which basically requires "attStmt" to be sent as an empty value as per WebAuthn spec - https://www.w3.org/TR/webauthn-2/#sctn-none-attestation When trying to set the "fmt" to "packed" in attestation object and creating a self signed "attStmt" consisting of "alg" and "sig" key-values referring - https://www.w3.org/TR/webauthn-2/#sctn-packed-attestation, it does not seem to work. The RP throws an error. I do not have "x5c" object as that supposedly is not mandatory in case of self attestation. I have "authData" also as part of the response properly setup. Is it not possible to use packed attestation or am I missing something in creating the attestation object? Also, does Apple modify the response being sent in the background before sending to RP if packed fmt is used?

StoreKitSubscriptionView presents an unfriendly message when network is unavailable
I have a rather simple StoreKitSubscriptionView for my app's single subscription. Question: Am I expected to write code to handle lack of network connectivity? When I run the app on development device, not using the local StoreKit configuration but rather the real app store, if the network is not available I get a not-user-friendly error message instead of the normal SubscriptionStoreView content. I'm uncertain if end-users actually see this. Maybe they see a more appropriate "Cannot connect to App Store, try later" message? Maybe I am supposed to check for network and not present the view if it is not available. I don't recall any mention of this in the WWDC video but I guess I should check again. Ideas anyone?

Using AudioToolbox to capture audio
Hi all, I am developing a digital signal processing application using AudioToolbox to capture audio from an audio loop application (BlackHole). Environment: MacOS Sonoma 14.4.1 Xcode 15.4 Quicktime 10.5 (I also tested with JRive Media Center) BlackHole 2ch and 16ch Problem: All audio samples received are zero. Steps to recreate: Set Mac Settings Sound audio output to BlackHole 2ch. Set Mac Settings Sound audio input to BlackHole 2ch. Authorise Xcode to access Microphone. In Audio MIDI set "Use this device for sound input" and "Use this device for sound output". Set volume of both to 1.0 . Play a 44.1 16-bit signed integer stereo FLAC file using Quicktime. Start C++ application . Key details of my code below... AudioStreamBasicDescription asbd = { 0 }; asbd.mFormatID = kAudioFormatLinearPCM; asbd.mFormatFlags = kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsFloat | kLinearPCMFormatFlagIsPacked; asbd.mSampleRate = 48000; asbd.mBitsPerChannel = 32; asbd.mBytesPerFrame = 8; asbd.mChannelsPerFrame = 2; asbd.mBytesPerPacket = asbd.mBytesPerFrame; asbd.mFramesPerPacket = 1; status = AudioQueueNewInput(&asbd, read_audio_callback, &userdata, NULL, NULL, 0, &queue_ref); for (uint8_t b = 0; b < num_buffers; b++) { AudioQueueBufferRef buf_ref; status = AudioQueueAllocateBuffer(queue_ref, audio_buf_size, &buf_ref); printf("Allocate buffer status: %d length %d\n", status, buf_ref->mAudioDataByteSize); status = AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer (queue_ref, buf_ref, 0, NULL); printf ("Initial Enqueue Buffer status: %d\n", status); } status = AudioQueueStart(queue_ref, NULL); Here is my callback: void read_audio_callback(void * ptr, AudioQueueRef queue_ref, AudioQueueBufferRef buf_ref, const AudioTimeStamp * ts_not_used, uint32_t num_packets, const AudioStreamPacketDescription * aspd_not_used) { if (num_packets > 0) { uint32_t bytesize = buf_ref -> mAudioDataByteSize; float * sample_buf_float = (float *)buf_ref -> mAudioData; float data[bytesize / 4]; memcpy(data, sample_buf_float, bytesize); OSStatus status = AudioQueueEnqueueBuffer(queue_ref, buf_ref, 0, NULL); printf ("Enqueue buffer status: %d\n", status); printf("Buffer length %d Packets received %d\n", bytesize, num_packets); for (int j = 0; j < bytesize / 4; j++) { printf("%f",data[j]); } } printf("read_audio_callback called!\n"); } All calls to Apple Audio functions return status of 0. The samples in the buffer are all 0.0 . Why would this be the case? Also, my callback is called even when playback is stopped. num_packets is always > 0 . Appreciate any help. Thanks in advance, Geoff.

macOS ImageCaptureCore does not recognise scanners
Hi All, I would like to develop a small macOS app using swift. I want to use ImageCaptureCore to access and control connected scanners ( via usb). I followed the official docs and wrote this ScannerManager. The code seems to be working without issues or warnings. I added the Hardened Runtime capability and both com.apple.security.personal-information.photos-library and com.apple.security.device.usb to the .entitlements file. As well added NSCameraUsageDescription to the Info.plist. Problem: None of my scanners do get detected (tested 2 different models). Of course, they are connected and do get recognized by the Image Capture App (and work as expected) and are listed in the systems app, too. When I connect my phone it does get detected by the func deviceBrowser(_ browser: ICDeviceBrowser, didAdd... delegate function. Thats why I believe my code is working but the app is lacking permissions to detect scanners somehow. Does anyone know something about this? I am using macOS 15.1.1 (24B91) on a M1 Pro. Many thanks in advance! class ScannerManager: NSObject, ICDeviceBrowserDelegate, ICDeviceDelegate { let deviceBrowser: ICDeviceBrowser private var currentDevice: ICDevice? private var scannerDeviceDelegate: ScannerDeviceDelegate? var isScanning = false var scanners: [ICDevice] = [] // MARK: - Initialization override init() { print("🚀 Initializing ScannerManager...") self.deviceBrowser = ICDeviceBrowser() super.init() self.deviceBrowser.delegate = self // Log the initial browsed device type mask self.deviceBrowser.browsedDeviceTypeMask = .scanner print("🔍 Starting device browser...") self.deviceBrowser.start() // Enhanced device logging if let devices = deviceBrowser.devices { print("\n📱 Connected devices overview:") print("Total devices found: \(devices.count)") if devices.isEmpty { print("⚠️ No devices currently connected") } else { devices.forEach { device in print("\n📌 Device Details:") print(" - Name: \(device.name ?? "unnamed")") print(" - Type: \(String(describing: device.type))") print(" - Transport Type: \(String(describing: device.transportType))") print(" - Status: \(device.hasOpenSession ? "In Use" : "Available")") print(" - Persistent ID: \(String(describing: device.persistentIDString))") print(" - Location: \(device.locationDescription ?? "Unknown")") print(" - Capabilities: \(String(describing: device.capabilities))") } } } else { print("⚠️ Unable to access device list") } } ...

Can users create their own subscription plans?
I'm considering developing an app where users can create their own subscription plans by freely setting their prices, similar to YouTube's membership feature. I understand that in-app purchases must be used to unlock features within the app. With that in mind, I searched for APIs to enable this functionality but couldn't find relevant information. When I contacted Apple directly, they mentioned that they couldn't provide specific answers unless the app is under review. If anyone has knowledge about the following points, I would greatly appreciate your response: Is it possible to implement a feature similar to YouTube's membership using in-app purchase APIs? If it's not feasible with in-app purchases, is it allowed to use external payment services like Stripe?

Spotlight doesn't show .html file results
When I search for text in a .html file using the Command-Spacebar spotlight popup the .html file is never shown in the results. On the other hand the .html file does show in the result when I search in the Finder window search field, or when I search in the Terminal using mdfind. Why is this and how can I fix? I want to use spotlight to find .html files. You can reproduce the problem like this: echo spotlighttest > testone.txt % echo spotlighttest > testtwo.html % mdfind spotlighttest 2024-12-30 14:22:28.552 mdfind[28326:550500] [UserQueryParser] Loading keywords and predicates for locale "en_US" 2024-12-30 14:22:28.553 mdfind[28326:550500] [UserQueryParser] Loading keywords and predicates for locale "en" ~/Desktop/Spotlighttest/testone.txt ~/Desktop/Spotlighttest/testtwo.html I believe this shows that both files are index properly, but if you then do Command-Spacebar and search for "Spotlighttest" I think you will see that only testone shows as a result. Edit I believe this is a change in macOS 15.x and used to work correctly in previous macOS

Warnings - Failed to locate resource
I have a test application I'm working on (so it's a fresh Xcode project under Sonoma - with older map code borrowed from another project). It is a macOS application. And in Obj-C. When the map window is opened the logs contain the following - I've been trying to hunt down and resolve. Thank you in advance for any clues/pointers. Failed to locate resource "default.csv" Failed to locate resource "satellite@2x.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite@2x.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite@2x.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite@2x.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite.styl" Failed to locate resource "satellite.styl" Couldn't find satellite.styl in framework, file name satellite.styl Authorization status: Authorized The application does have MapKit.framework included.

SKProductsRequest Randomly Returns All Product IDs as Invalid Despite Correct IDs
We're experiencing an unusual issue with SKProductsRequest in our app's in-app purchases. Despite confirming that all our product IDs are correct, the invalidProductIdentifiers property of SKProductsResponse sometimes contains all the requested product IDs. Here are the specifics: The issue occurs randomly and is not persistent. For instance, around 2024-12-26 -8.0 01:06:04, this problem occurred 3 times in quick succession. The didFailWithError method of SKRequestDelegate is not triggered, reporting no errors. Some users report that after encountering this issue, it resolves itself after about an hour. However, other users have reported this problem persisting for several days. We have repeatedly verified the correctness of our product IDs. Given the intermittent nature of the problem, we suspect this might be an issue on the App Store server side. We're looking for suggestions to resolve or mitigate this issue to improve the reliability of in-app purchases in our application. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Or does anyone have suggestions that could help us further diagnose and resolve this problem?

Getting a crash for SwiftData that only happens on iPhone 16 pro
I'm getting a crash in SwiftData but only on one specific device (iPhone 16 pro running 18.2 22C5131e) and not on an ipad or simulator I cant troubleshoot this crash and its quite frustrating, all I am getting is @Query(sort: \Todo.timestamp, order: .reverse) private var todos: [Todo] ForEach(todos.filter { !$0.completed }) { item in // <---crash TodoListView() } and the error is Thread 1: signal SIGABRT An abort signal terminated the process. App Store Review always got 4.3 for my apps
I created an app and submitted to app store for review and got a rejection with "4.3(a) - Design - Spam". This one was created for brand new, and I didn't find any similar apps in App store. I searched in this forum but am not sure if it is because I used flutter to build my app? How could I get a bit more specific detail why it got rejected? Guideline 4.3(a) - Design - Spam We noticed your app shares a similar binary, metadata, and/or concept as apps submitted to the App Store by other developers, with only minor differences. Submitting similar or repackaged apps is a form of spam that creates clutter and makes it difficult for users to discover new apps. Next Steps Since we do not accept spam apps on the App Store, we encourage you to review your app concept and submit a unique app with distinct content and functionality.

Automate System Extension Approvals
I have a host running MacOS 14.7 which is used as a CI runner, with the intention to eventually scale out to have multiple hosts that can be provisioned on the fly. I'm installing some tooling on it and running into an issue where a system extension is pending user approval. The only way I have found to approve system extensions is through System Settings -> Privacy & Security. However, since this host is solely being used in an automated environment, I'm looking for a way to either approve via a cli command or bypass it all together. Is this possible?

CarPlay Not Working Properly
I just purchased a new 2025 Honda Civic Hybrid sedan with the highest trim package. The staff at the dealership set CarPlay up to my iPhone 16 Pro, and all was operating perfectly. Then, last week, I started noticing random connectivity problems with it (ie: no sound from my audio apps, “not connected” being displayed on the dashboard displa, etc.) I tried to think of what had changed with my setup, and the only change was that I updated to the latest iOS update 18.2 I scheduled a service appointment with the Honda dealer in hopes that Apple and Honda can confirm a fix for this issue. I’ll try to attach an image from my car’s dashboard display as an example of an error message that isn’t resolved.
