AppGroup intermittent permission errors
I recently started saving a file, where I hold some app state, to an AppGroup in order to share it with my widget extension. Of the some 16k daily active users of my app, 55 are initially unable to read the file (it might not yet be created). And they are unable to write a file to the AppGroup as well. I only know this due to logging the error to Crashlytics. Error Reading: "The file “BFTPreferences” couldn’t be opened because you don’t have permission to view it. Error Code:257" My App sees this error and informs the user to restart their device. I have not been contacted by any of these users for support, so I assume the restart fixes things. Has anyone seen this before? Is restarting the device the only fix? Am I doing something wrong? The only solution I can think of currently is to save the file to the app's Documents directory and save a copy to the AppGroup for use in my extensions. At least then the main app won't have an issue and it will just be the widget unable to display data until a restart. Reading the file: do { // archive data let data = try PropertyListSerialization.data(fromPropertyList: preferences, format: .xml, options: 0) // write data do { if let groupURL = FileManager.default.containerURL(forSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier: appGroupIdentifier) { let fullPath = groupURL.appendingPathComponent(preferencesFileName) try data.write(to: fullPath) } else { fatalError("Unable to find app group \(appGroupIdentifier)") } } catch { logthis("Failed to write dictionary data to disk. \(error.localizedDescription)") } } catch { logthis("Failed to archive dictionary. \(error.localizedDescription)") } Writing the file: do { if let groupURL = FileManager.default.containerURL(forSecurityApplicationGroupIdentifier: appGroupIdentifier) { let fullPath = groupURL.appendingPathComponent(preferencesFileName) let data = try Data(contentsOf: fullPath) if let dictionary = try PropertyListSerialization.propertyList(from: data, format: nil) as? NSMutableDictionary { preferences = dictionary } } else { fatalError("Unable to find app group \(appGroupIdentifier)") } } catch { if (error as NSError).code == NSFileReadNoSuchFileError { // file doesn't exist so create it } else { logthis("Couldn't read BFTPreferences:\(error.localizedDescription)\nError Code:\((error as NSError).code)") <--error code 257 is caught here } }

Automation for message received
I would like to run an automation that sends a text message to my personal phone whenever my work phone receives a text message. In the “Message Contains” field of the message automation, an input is required. I put in a space, but that won’t work if someone sends me a one word text. Any suggestions?

Missing calls to L2CAP Stream Delegate
I have a C++/Objective-C command line application, running on MacOs (15.1.1 (24B91)), that communicates with a Bluetooth LE peripheral. The application is build with Apple clang 16.0.0 and CMake as build system using Boost.Asio. I'm able to establish a L2CAP channel and after the channel is established, the peripheral sends a first (quite small) SDU on that channel to the application. The PSM is 0x80 and was chosen by the peripherals BLE stack. The application receives the PSM via GATT notification. I can see the SDU being send in a single LL PDU with Wireshark. I can also see the SDU being received in Apples PacketLogger. But I miss the corresponding call to a stream event handler. For all other GATT related events, the corresponding delegates / callbacks are called. The code that creates a dispatch queue and passes it to the CBCentralManager looks like this: dispatch_queue = dispatch_queue_create("de.torrox.ble_event_queue", NULL); manager = [[CBCentralManager alloc] initWithDelegate:self queue:dispatch_queue options:nil]; When the L2CAP channel is established, the didOpenL2CAPChannel callback gets called from a thread within the dispatch_queue (has been verified with lldb): - (void)peripheral:(CBPeripheral *)peripheral didOpenL2CAPChannel:(CBL2CAPChannel *)channel error:(NSError *)error { [channel inputStream].delegate = self; [channel outputStream].delegate = self; [[channel inputStream] scheduleInRunLoop:[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] forMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode]; [[channel outputStream] scheduleInRunLoop:[NSRunLoop currentRunLoop] forMode:NSDefaultRunLoopMode]; [[channel inputStream] open]; [[channel outputStream] open]; ... // a reference to the channel is stored in the outside channel object [channel retain]; ... } Yet, not a single stream event is generated: - (void)stream:(NSStream *)stream handleEvent:(NSStreamEvent)event_code { Log( @"stream:handleEvent %@, %lu", stream, event_code ); ... } When I add a functionality, to poll the input stream, the stream will report the expected L2CAP input. But no event is generated. The main thread of execution is usually blocking on a boost::asio::io_context::run() call. The design is, to have the stream callback stream:handleEvent to post call back invocations on that io_context, and thus to wake up the main thread and get that callbacks being invoked on the main thread. All asynchronous GATT delegate calls are working as expected. The only missing events, are the events from the L2CAP streams. The same code worked in an older project on an older version of MacOs and an older version of Boost. How can I find out, why the stream delegates are not called?

Preparing your app to be the default calling app on iOS 18.2?
Hello, I’m working on a caller ID app and with the release of iOS 18.2, Apple has introduced the ability to set a third-party app as the default calling app. I have followed the official documentation for this feature and successfully set my app as the default phone app for making and receiving calls. Documentation Reference: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/callkit/preparing-your-app-to-be-the-default-calling-app Now, I’m facing some challenges and need some guidance: Custom UI for Incoming Cellular Calls: Is it possible to show a custom UI when receiving SIM-based cellular calls (not VoIP)? I want to replace the default iOS call screen with my own design when a cellular call is received. Can CallKit allow me to manage and display this custom UI for real cellular calls? Detecting Incoming Cellular Calls: Can I detect incoming SIM-based cellular calls when my app is set as the default calling app? I would like to track and show details of incoming calls (e.g., caller information, call duration) using a custom interface. Displaying Call Data (Call Duration, Recent Calls): Can I show call data (e.g., call duration, recent call history, etc.) for SIM-based cellular calls within my app when it is the default calling app? I need to know if it’s possible to retrieve and display this data in a custom format. Managing Outgoing Cellular Calls: For SIM-based outgoing calls, can I handle the process of initiating the call and then show a custom UI for the call in progress (similar to how VoIP apps manage outgoing calls)? I understand that CallKit can be used to manage the UI for calls, but I’m unsure about the limitations when it comes to real SIM-based cellular calls. Is it possible to implement these features with the current API capabilities, or are there any restrictions I should be aware of when managing cellular network calls? Thanks in advance for your help!

Business model changes by using the app transaction
Hello, I’m trying to change my business model within the app, and following Apple’s documentation guidelines HERE I created this task in the main view of the app. It seems to work perfectly in the simulator, on physical devices, and on TestFlight. However, after releasing it to production and uploading the new version to the App Store, it doesn’t work, and all users, whether new or existing, are asked to subscribe. In the console, it appears to retrieve the transactions correctly, but in production, I’m not sure how to view the console or see what it’s retrieving. Here the sandbox receipt I obtained AppTransaction.shared obtained: { "applicationVersion" : "1", "bundleId" : "com.anestesiaIB.Drugs-Infusion-Calc", "deviceVerification" : "6M0Nnw14nSEOBVTPE\/\/EfnWSwLm7LFSlrpFEwxgH74SBHp5dSzBEm896Uvo42mwr", "deviceVerificationNonce" : "8a8238c0-0aee-41e6-bfb0-1cfc52b70fb6", "originalApplicationVersion" : "1.0", "originalPurchaseDate" : 1375340400000, "receiptCreationDate" : 1737577840917, "receiptType" : "Sandbox", "requestDate" : 1737577840917 } This are the processing log while verified the receipt New business model change: 1.7 Original versionéis components: ["1", "0"] Major version: 1, Minor version: 0 This user is premium. CallKit Keeps Terminating
Hello, I am currently developing a call service using CallKit and VoIP push. Recently, I have encountered a very challenging issue. During testing, when a VoIP push is received, the incomingCall gets triggered continuously, but then it automatically terminates after about 1-2 seconds. I am checking this issue under the debug scheme, and even when switching to different commits, the same problem persists. I suspect it might be an issue with the device, but I would like to confirm the cause and find a solution. Below are some characteristics I have noticed: On this device, when a VoIP push is received, CallKit automatically terminates, but this does not occur when debugging. The issue always occurs when not debugging. Looking at the device console logs related to callservicesd, there are many logs with 'invalidate' appended. For example: Invalidating process assertion for bundle ID from timeout All calls ended. Clearing system uplink muted cache Invalidate callDurationUpdateTimer InCallService has changed process state to 2 InCallService has been suspended; invalidating its XPC client connections. [0x565544180] invalidated because the current process cancelled the connection by calling xpc_connection_cancel() XPC connection invalidated from client These logs appear although our server did not receive any incoming call request, so we did not terminate it on our end. I also checked if there was a crash, but there were no reports left on the device. Could you please share any insights into the cause or solutions for this situation? Thank you.

TN3138: Handling App Store receipt signing certificate change
Hi (from France) I have a MacOS application which handles the App Store receipt by requesting at the url "https://buy.itunes.apple.com/verifyReceipt". From the response, I can know what are the inApps bought by the user and that suits for me. I don't know if if I must change something in my code accordingly to this TN3118. Does someone knows the response ? Best regards.

"InvalidProviderToken" with APN push service when using code-generated token
Problem We have successfully set up push notifications using Apple APN service, that is push notifications work when using a token generated using the JSON Web Token Generator in the Push Notification console. However, we get an "InvalidProviderToken" error when creating using our own token using the following code. The Key and TeamID is definitely correct (obviously, censored in the below code). When pasting our token in the JSON Web Token Validator in the Push Notification console we get the error „Invalid signing key“. We merely pasted our secret key in our setNewTokenIfNeeded code, separated on four lines using the “““ style. Does anyone know why this error happens? Given that it works when we upload our .p8 file to the JSON Web Token Generator and we simply paste the text of this file (excluding the lines with "-----BEGIN/END PRIVATE KEY-----") I guess our secret key is correct? Code to generate token fileprivate var currentToken: String? fileprivate var currentTokenCreateTime: Date? fileprivate func setNewTokenIfNeeded() { // Ensure, token is at least 20 minutes but at most 60 minutes old if let currentTokenCreateTime = currentTokenCreateTime { let ageOfTokenInSeconds = abs(Int(currentTokenCreateTime.timeIntervalSinceNow)) NSLog("Age of token: \(Int(ageOfTokenInSeconds / 60)) minutes.") if ageOfTokenInSeconds <= 20 * 60 { return } } // Generate new token NSLog("Renewing token.") let secret = """ ABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABC+ABCABC+ABCABCABC+ABCABCAB/+ ABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABC+ABCABC+ABCABCABC+ABCABCAB/+ ABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABCABC+ABCABC+ABCABCABC+ABCABCAB/+ ABCABCAB """ let privateKey = SymmetricKey(data: Data(secret.utf8)) let headerJSONData = try! JSONSerialization.data(withJSONObject: payload, options: .prettyPrinted) URLSession(configuration: .ephemeral).dataTask(with: request) { data, response, error in if let error = error { NSLog(error.localizedDescription) } if let data = data { NSLog(String(data: data, encoding: .utf8)!) } }.resume() } } On a similar note, some people seem to encounter this error when using the prettyPrinted option for the JSON serialization (i.e., in request.httpBody = try! JSONSerialization.data(withJSONObject: payload, options: .prettyPrinted). Could this be the culprit, given our secret key contains „/„ and „+“? Many thanks!

App Clip works in TestFlight but not elsewhere
My app is available in TestFlight but has been rejected in App Review with the review feedback that the app clip "just shows a blank screen". However, in the TestFlight app, the App Clip works as expected and brings up the clip. It also works correctly from Xcode testing. Any ideas on what the problem could be? It is using the default App Clip link (appclip.apple.com)

Set Default Value for Date Picker in App Intent
Hi everyone, I have a simple question regarding App Intents. I have an intent that defines a few parameters, one of which is a Date. When the user is prompted for input, I’d like the date picker to start at a specific value (e.g., tomorrow) instead of the default current date. Is there a way to set an initial/default value for the date parameter in an App Intent? Thanks in advance for any guidance!

Rotate mapkit.ImageAnnotation
Hello I'd like to be able to rotate an mapkit.ImageAnnotation. From this post on Stack Overflow https://stackoverflow.com/questions/78686475/need-to-style-a-mapkit-js-marker-annotation/78702266#78702266 I understand that it's possible, for example, to the following: map.annotations[0].element.style.cursor = "pointer"; and this works for me. However, I need to do something like the following, but it doesn't work: map.annotations[0].element.style.transform = "rotate(90deg) "; Any ideas how a mapkit.ImageAnnotation and mapkit.MarkerAnnotation can be rotated? Thanks in advance Sam

Can I ensure location is saved to SwiftData within Share Extension lifetime?
I am writing a SwiftData/SwiftUI app in which the user saves simple records, tagged with their current location. Core Location can take up to 10 seconds to retrieve the current location from its requestLocation() call. I the main app I have wrapped the CLLocationManager calls with async implementations. I kick off a Task when a new record is created, and write the location to my @Model on the main thread when it completes. A realistic use of the share extension doesn't give the task enough time to complete. I can use performExpiringActivity to complete background processing after the share extension closes but this needs to be a synchronous block. Is there some way of using performExpiringActivity when relying on a delegate callback from something like Core Location?

Critical SKAdNetwork Attribution
Subject/Title: Critical SKAdNetwork Attribution Failures (Bug Type: 237, Failure Type: 1201 in ASDErrorDomain) Issue Summary We are encountering repeated SKAdNetwork attribution failures (failureType: 1201 in ASDErrorDomain) for ad impression events processed through the ad network mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork. These failures are causing significant revenue losses, as ad impressions are not being properly attributed to installs. The issue occurs across multiple campaigns and involves both SKAdNetwork API 3.0 and 4.0, suggesting a systemic problem with attribution validation or network communication. This problem is critical as it disrupts advertisers’ ability to track conversions, optimize campaigns, and allocate budgets effectively. Technical Details Key Logs: Below are anonymized samples of the failed SKAdNetwork events: Log Sample 1 (Failure): { "bug_type": "237", "timestamp": "2025-01-07 22:49:15.00 -0500", "os_version": "iPhone OS 18.2.1 (22C161)", "roots_installed": 0, "incident_id": "78523BD9-1F58-4738-B526-8A8A63203214" } { "advertisementStoryId": "3D2E7EBB-1A57-4DF8-9375-2C465F423038", "apiVersion": "3.0", "eventType": "adImpression", "resultType": "finalized", "anonymous": true, "failureType": 1201, "failureDomain": "ASDErrorDomain", "clientEventId": "0F456623-584F-4913-BBD3-C3FD1219D104", "os": "iOS", "topic": "xp_amp_skad_perf", "adType": "app", "adNetworkId": "mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork", "eventTime": 1736305200000, "osBuildNumber": "22C161", "hardwareFamily": "iPhone", "api": "SKAdNetwork" } Log Sample 2 (Failure): { "bug_type": "237", "timestamp": "2025-01-07 22:49:15.00 -0500", "os_version": "iPhone OS 18.2.1 (22C161)", "roots_installed": 0, "incident_id": "0CBF612D-F0D9-449E-A34E-DE2DB92BEC0D" } { "advertisementStoryId": "946E568C-D2C1-478F-BFF3-4996C48F9B39", "apiVersion": "3.0", "eventType": "adImpression", "resultType": "finalized", "anonymous": true, "failureType": 1201, "failureDomain": "ASDErrorDomain", "clientEventId": "1A3D48FB-4452-4FD8-BB25-1195470A53DC", "os": "iOS", "topic": "xp_amp_skad_perf", "adType": "app", "adNetworkId": "mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork", "eventTime": 1736298000000, "osBuildNumber": "22C161", "hardwareFamily": "iPhone", "api": "SKAdNetwork" } Log Sample 3 (Success Example for Comparison): { "bug_type": "237", "timestamp": "2025-01-07 22:49:15.00 -0500", "os_version": "iPhone OS 18.2.1 (22C161)", "roots_installed": 0, "incident_id": "BFEAC86B-8195-4DB0-96FF-2028107256AD" } { "advertisementStoryId": "946E568C-D2C1-478F-BFF3-4996C48F9B39", "apiVersion": "3.0", "eventType": "adImpression", "resultType": "finalized", "anonymous": true, "clientEventId": "F6265488-E0FB-448A-A406-3F7254BCA9D7", "os": "iOS", "topic": "xp_amp_skad_perf", "adType": "app", "adNetworkId": "mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork", "eventTime": 1736294400000, "osBuildNumber": "22C161", "hardwareFamily": "iPhone", "api": "SKAdNetwork" } Failure Details: Failure Type: 1201 Failure Domain: ASDErrorDomain Ad Network ID: mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork API Versions Affected: 3.0, 4.0 Timeframe of Failures: All logs occur within 2025-01-07 22:00:00 UTC to 23:00:00 UTC. Environment: OS Version: iOS 18.2.1 (Build 22C161). Device Type: iPhone (hardwareFamily: iPhone). App Configuration: Includes the ad network ID in the Info.plist under SKAdNetworkItems. Impact Details Financial Loss: Based on failure rates, we estimate $20–$65/day per advertiser for small campaigns and $75–$375/day per advertiser for larger campaigns. If 100 advertisers are affected, daily losses range from $2,000–$37,500. Over a week, losses could exceed $70,000 to $262,500 or more. Operational Impact: Advertisers cannot track installs or optimize campaigns, leading to inefficient ad spending and potential budget reallocation to other networks. Damaged trust between advertisers and the ad network. Reputation Risk: Continued failures harm the credibility of the SKAdNetwork framework, critical in a post-ATT (App Tracking Transparency) ecosystem. Steps to Reproduce Serve an ad impression through the ad network mj797d8u6f.skadnetwork. Monitor SKAdNetwork attribution for that impression. Observe repeated failures (failureType: 1201) despite the resultType: finalized status. Recommendations for Investigation Attribution Timeout: Verify if these failures stem from delayed responses or missed attribution windows. Ad Network Configuration: Confirm the ad network’s integration complies with SKAdNetwork API 3.0 and 4.0 requirements. Infrastructure Review: Investigate potential bottlenecks or failures in Apple’s attribution servers (ASDErrorDomain) or communication delays. PushKit Voip notifications not triggering CallKit UI in the background
I am trying to add voip call functionality to my app. It works as expected while the app is in the foreground. But in the background it does not. I have registered the app as requiring background voip permissions. My implementation doesn't fit into one of these posts, so here is a gist: https://gist.github.com/BrentMifsud/4be43c022c1279f04ecb56250a86b3f1

SKProductsRequest Randomly Returns All Product IDs as Invalid Despite Correct IDs
We're experiencing an unusual issue with SKProductsRequest in our app's in-app purchases. Despite confirming that all our product IDs are correct, the invalidProductIdentifiers property of SKProductsResponse sometimes contains all the requested product IDs. Here are the specifics: The issue occurs randomly and is not persistent. For instance, around 2024-12-26 -8.0 01:06:04, this problem occurred 3 times in quick succession. The didFailWithError method of SKRequestDelegate is not triggered, reporting no errors. Some users report that after encountering this issue, it resolves itself after about an hour. However, other users have reported this problem persisting for several days. We have repeatedly verified the correctness of our product IDs. Given the intermittent nature of the problem, we suspect this might be an issue on the App Store server side. We're looking for suggestions to resolve or mitigate this issue to improve the reliability of in-app purchases in our application. Has anyone encountered a similar issue? Or does anyone have suggestions that could help us further diagnose and resolve this problem?
