Hi, am facing an issue related to voip push notifications getting delivered 1-2 hours after apns-expiration to 0 and apns-priority to 10.
I had raised a similar post got a reply that it may be due to network delay.
But network delay can cause the delivery of voip push to be delayed only by few seconds or minutes. But in our case voip push is getting delivered hours after the voip call was attempted.
Steps to reproduce:
Put our voip app in background and lock iPhone. As app is put in background, socket connections gets disconnected from server.
Now if a caller makes call to this app, the call should be delivered through voip push.
2) Voip push should ideally be received even if app is in background and iPhone is locked. It is connected to a good wifi network. But it does not receive the voip push.
3) After 1-2 hours user unlocks iPhone and opens voip app. As soon as user opens app, the voip push is received and phone starts ringing.

I'm having trouble displaying the Apple Wallet pass logo on iOS 18 when a notification occurs. It works on iOS 17 but not on iOS 18 (tested on versions 18.1 and 18.3).
I ensured the Wallet pass icon sizes are correct:
icon.png → 29×29
icon@ 2x.png → 58×58
icon@ 3x.png → 87×87
Questions:
Has Apple changed any requirements for displaying Wallet pass logos in iOS 18?
Are there new size, format, or metadata constraints?
I received an email from Apple saying that I needed to replace the APNS certificate.
I am inquiring because I am curious about who has the relevant authority and who actually makes the changes.
Could you please provide specific guidance on this?

APNs updated the server certificates in sandbox on January 21, 2025. APNs production server certificates will be updated on February 24, 2025. To continue using APNs without interruption, you’ll need to update your application’s Trust Store to include the new server certificate: SHA-2 Root: USERTrust RSA Certification Authority certificate.
To ensure a smooth transition and avoid push notification delivery failures, please make sure that both old and new server certificates are included in the Trust Store before the cut-off date for each of your application servers that connect to sandbox and production. At this time, you don’t need to update the APNs SSL provider certificates issued to you by Apple.

Hi everyone,
I am having issues with all my MacOS devices (3 so far) and push notifications.
My app is in development and when i send a Test APN (From the Push Notification Console) to any of my MacOS devices (using the device token), the log is "discarded as device was offline".
Fun fact, if i run the command : sudo kill apsd
I receive the previously "discarded" Push notification immediately.
Is it a known bug or something is wrong in my configuration ?
Note : my debugProfile.entitlements is fine and the value is set to "development", i have already reloaded my certificate by cleaning the project and rebuilding (according to ChatGPT) but nothing works...
I am using Xcode 26.0.1 and MacOS 26.0.1 on my 3 different MacOS devices all having this issue.

Got notification to update this certificate - there was a link to Sectigo.com where I found an attachment with that name - when I clicked it I got a box where it said to install it. Clicked the box and it was saved somewhere on my computer.
Now I dont know if that's it or I need to take further actions - please help :-)
Have no experience with this - my collegue who did this has stopped.

We are observing an weird behaviour where a user uninstalled the app back in February (more than a month ago) but APNs is still accepting push notifications are returning success responses.
We know that using APNs response codes for uninstall tracking is not reliable and that Apple will use fuzzy schedule to invalidate tokens.
However, showing successful responses for month+ old tokens seems a bit misleading and results in wasted token processing for both us and Apple.
Could you please confirm that invalidation (or fuzzy schedule) could take more than months to invalidate tokens on the APNs side? Is that expected or is this a bug somewhere?
When the app kills the process. Received APNs push message. Push messages carry voice related information. At the same time as receiving the push, obtain the voice playback of this voice message. How to achieve it?
I am sending push notifications on iOS, and I can receive and display them correctly. I want to be able to dismiss notifications that have been read server-side (e.g. on a different device) so I am trying to send a custom notification payload alongside a badge counter update, that specifies what notification IDs to remove. I then use removeDeliveredNotifications on the IDs I get. However, it doesn't seem to be working. I am setting the identifier using the apns-collapse-id header and I do see that reflected on the device side. Any ideas what I might be doing wrong?

When I turn the Ringtone and Alerts volume all the way up, I expect standard notifications to play at the loudest level the device allows. In theory, this should match the volume of a critical alert with its sound.volume set to 1.0 in payload.
However, I’ve noticed that non-critical notifications still play quieter than critical alerts under these conditions. Critical alerts with volume: 1.0 sound noticeably louder than standard notifications, even though the Ringtone and Alerts slider is already set to maximum. And I couldn't find a documentation for this behavior anywhere.
Is this expected behavior on iOS? And is there any way to make non-critical notifications play at the same maximum loudness as critical alerts?

Is there a way to configure the APNS notification sound volume to be louder?
I am implementing some custom sounds(narrative sentences) for APNS, it does play the custom sound, but the volume of the custom sound is not loud enough even though I had set the device's volume and "RingTone and Alerts" volume to max.
I tried to amplify the custom sound file, it does play louder but the result is minimum if I want to maintain the quality of the sound without it been distorted.
I tried to use Notification Service Extension, AVAudioPlayer and AVAudioSession to play the sound, it does play louder in max volume compare with relying on default sound payload in APNS, but the problem is AVAudioPlayer and AVAudioSession do not seems to be usable when the application is in background or killed state, is there any other alternative I could use?
If an iOS application has a notification service extension which gets sent a push, but the user has not been prompted for notification authorization via requestAuthorization() then what is the expected behavior?
Will the push get delivered to the NSE but the resulting notification not displayed? Or will the push not get delivered at all to the NSE?
It seems our company server is sending to Apple push service the push notifications that are supposed to be transferred to devices our app is installed on – but you it seems you are blocking the request
We can see traffic going out from our server side towards the apple gateway notification server using port 2195 and we can see that the traffic gets "server-rst" meaning that the apple gateway server kills the connection
You might need to whitelist our external IP's
I have a working AlarmKit app, but I've noticed that after any iOS update (e.g. the 26.0.1 update from a few days ago), my scheduled alarms seem to lose their UI strings, so instead of the Stop button saying "Stop", it says "alarm_ui_stop_button" (which is my localization key for the button text). If I delete the alarm and re-add it, then it works again... until the next software update.
It seems like OS updates are interfering with the link between scheduled alarms and app localization strings, which I believe are dynamically looked up at alarm time (not at configuration time).

We are in the process of preparing our app to support the new Texas law (SB2420) that takes effect 1/1/2026.
After reviewing Apple's recent announcements/docs concerning this subject, one thing isn't clear to me: how to associate an app install with an App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification that could be delivered to our server.
Our app is totally free so there isn't an originalTransactionId or other similar transaction IDs that would be generated as part of an in-app purchase (and then subsequently sent as part of the payload in the notification to our server during an in-app purchase scenario).
So my question is: How do I associate an app (free app) install with an App Store Server RESCIND_CONSENT notification that is sent to our server?

Excited for AlarmKit! I have found two concerns that I cannot find answers for though.
The volume of my alarms seems to be very quite relative to the full volume capability of the device. For example, if I turn the volume all the way up and play the audio file, the sound is very loud. However then, if I set the alarm using alarm kit with the same audio, the track played during the alerting phase is not that loud. I am afraid that it will not be loud enough in real life. Will there be future support to set the volume level of the alarm to maximum settings?
When I press the volume buttons (with the app open) during an active alarm, the audio stops, but the alarm manager does not clear these events. The alarm manager does clear the alarm event if the alarm is stopped through a live activity.

Can I using AudioServicesPlaySystemSound for play sound os system on NotificationService?
We are attempting to update our app to use the PTT framework, as it has been made clear that this will be required in a future iOS version as opposed to using the Unrestricted VoIP entitlement we are using for several features of our app.
However, the behavior of this framework poses some problems with implementing our app's functionality:
It is not possible to programmatically join a channel when the app is not in the foreground. This hinders our ability to implement the Automatically activate radio stream feature of our app, which allows users who have opted into this feature to immediately begin hearing live PTT audio from their agency following an incident alert. Having the app constantly "joined to a channel" and using the restoration delegate could potentially work, however this is not ideal as this would result in the PTT UI needing to be displayed at all times, even when no radio stream is activated.
We have a "Text to Speech" option that, when enabled, reads out the content of an incident alert after the alert sound has played. This currently happens by triggering an AVSpeechSynthesizer in the PushKit incoming push callback. It may be possible to render TTS audio on the fly in a Notification Service Extension and assign it as the notification's sound, if that is possible this is less of a problem.
We also use the PushKit callback to, again if the user has enabled it, activate a "Shake to Respond" feature, allowing a short period of time after receiving an incident alert in which the user can shake their device to indicate that they are responding to the incident. There does not appear to be any way to have the level of background execution required to implement this using an NSE, and this is of course beyond the scope of the PTT framework.
What options do we have to be able to continue to provide this functionality, without risk of it being disabled in a future iOS version?
We are developing an app that receives push notifications (via Firebase) from configured IoT devices. It is essential that when a specific type of notification is received, a sound is played continuously until the user interacts with the notification.
This behavior is crucial for alerting users to certain critical states of the IoT device.
We understand that Critical Alerts on iOS can bypass Do Not Disturb and silent mode. However, from our testing and available documentation, the sound from a Critical Alert seems to be limited to around 30 seconds.
Our question:
Is it possible on iOS to have a Critical Alert (or any other type of notification) continue playing sound until the user interacts with the notification or app? If so, could someone please point us to the appropriate documentation or APIs?

Hello, I am trying to utilize the Critical Messaging API to allow my user to message 1 or multiple pre registered contacts automatically.
An issue I am having with this in testing is that when the application attempts to fire off texts to the phone numbers the success rate changes from trial to trial, with no variable changing. Sometimes I can send a Critical Message to multiple phone numbers in rapid succession, sometimes the message is only sent to 1 contact, and sometimes I get no successes. Each failure always returns the MSCriticalMessaging.notSupported error.
The API documentation states, "The send(_:to:) method only works if the app is backgrounded, if it’s called from foreground the framework returns a MSCriticalMessagingError.notSupported error."
If my app is always backgrounded in these tests, what other issues may cause this notSupported error return, and why does the outcomes success rate vary?
I received the email from Apple: “Action Required: Apple Push Notification Service Server Certificate Update”.
I'm not quite clear on what exactly I need to do.
In my case, I have my own APN service on a DigitalOcean server and I have both .pem and .p12 certificate there.
Can anyone help me?
