There's plenty of articles out there about programatically grouping push notifications. However I have tried setting the thread-id in the push payload when sending a push, or setting the threadIdentifier for a received push in a notification service extension to be the same for several pushes.
But if within the iPhone Settings / Notifications the user selects to display pushes as List and turns off Notification Grouping, then each notification resulting from the push appears on its own separately.
Is there something other than thread-id/threadidentifier that is used to programmatically group them? If not then whats the point of these as grouping and display is actually under the control of user.
I downloaded the .crt file to take the following steps. Could you please give me a guide on how to actually apply the file to the server?
Upload only files to a specific path on the Linux server.
keytool -import -alias cacert -file ca.crt -keystore client.truststore.jks
Is it possible to just apply it with the above command?
Please confirm.
thank you

Hi there,
I’m currently working on an app designed for doctors to respond to life-threatening situations in hospitals. The goal is for critical alerts to trigger an alarm, regardless of whether the app is in the foreground or background. The critical alerts entitlement is already set up, but there’s a limitation: I can only attach a 30-second audio file to the notification, as I can’t run code to loop the sound when the app is swiped away.
Does anyone have suggestions on how I might approach this problem?
Thanks so much in advance!

Hi everyone,
I recently migrated my individual Apple Developer account to an Organization account for my company "". My Team ID remained the same. I'm now facing persistent issues with code signing and push notifications for my iOS app (Bundle ID: com.).
Current Problems:
"Untitled" Certificates in Xcode: When I go to Xcode -> Settings -> Accounts -> [My Apple ID] -> Select "" Team -> "Manage Certificates...", a number of my newly created Apple Development and Apple Distribution certificates are listed древ "Untitled". Some older ones are "Revoked". (See attached screenshot if possible).
"No App ID" for Push Notifications Console: In my app target's "Signing & Capabilities" tab, I've added the "Push Notifications" capability. However, when I click the info button to open the "Push Notifications Console", it states: "no app IDs: Register an App ID with the Push Notifications capability enabled to use the Push Notifications console." This is despite the fact that the Push Notifications capability IS enabled for my App ID com. in the Developer Portal, and I've configured an APNs Auth Key (.p8) for it.
Push Notifications Not Received (from Backend): While I can successfully send a test push notification directly from the Firebase Console to my device's FCM token, notifications triggered by my backend (Firebase Cloud Functions writing to a Firestore collection, which then triggers another function to send via FCM) are not being delivered to iOS devices. (Android seems to be working more reliably now).
Setup:
Using an APNs Authentication Key (.p8) linked to my Organization Team ID in Firebase Cloud Messaging.
Main App ID com. has "Push Notifications" capability enabled.
Notification Service Extension com..ImageNotification also has its App ID and Provisioning Profile set up for the Organization team.
Created new Development and Distribution certificates and Provisioning Profiles specifically for the Organization team.
Using "Automatically manage signing" in Xcode with the Organization team selected for both the main app target and the extension target.
Troubleshooting Done:
Revoked old/problematic certificates and profiles.
Recreated CSRs and new Development/Distribution certificates under the Organization team multiple times.
Recreated Provisioning Profiles.
Cleaned Derived Data in Xcode.
Ensured Bundle Identifiers are consistent.
Verified APNs Auth Key details (Key ID, Team ID) in Firebase.
I suspect there's a fundamental issue with how Xcode is recognizing or linking the signing assets for my Organization team after the account type change, despite the Team ID being the same. The "Untitled" certificates are a major red flag.
Has anyone encountered similar issues, particularly the "Untitled" certificates or the "No App ID" message for the Push Console, after an account migration or when working with Organization accounts? Any insights on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Benni

We have a question regarding iOS app configuration and the Remote notifications background mode.
During our testing, we observed:
*When enabling or disabling Signing & Capabilities > Background Modes > Remote notifications, the change does not take effect on devices that already have the app installed.
*The app continues to behave according to the old configuration.
*Only after uninstalling the app and reinstalling it from the App Store do the new settings take effect (for example, whether the app can be woken up by silent push).
*We also tested updating the app with a new version number (App Store upgrade flow), but the new settings still did not apply.
Our questions are:
1.Is there any way to make iOS re-read the updated Signing & Capabilities (Background Modes) settings without requiring a full uninstall/reinstall?
2.Is it expected behavior that even an App Store upgrade with a new version number will not apply these changes?
thanks!

Hello Apple Developer Team,
Based on the mandate to update the APNs certificate by February 24, 2025 for certificate-based authentication, a question from the team has been brought up that maybe Apple or the community can help answer. Since our implementation uses token-based authentication, I’m seeking clarification on a couple of points:
1. Does the certificate update affect token-based connections at all?
2. What is the rationale behind updating certificates for certificate-based authentication, and are there any implications or benefits for developers using token-based authentication?
Understanding these details will help us ensure our system remains compliant and optimally configured. Any guidance or further clarification you can provide would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
Hello Everyone,
I have some questions regarding the Apple notification alert update received in October 2024 for the APNs server certificate update.
We are using Azure Notification Hub to receive push notifications. I confirmed with the Azure team, and they have already implemented the required changes. However, push notifications are still not working in the sandbox environment.
Could you please provide any insights on this?
Thanks.
I'm trying to provide custom localized descriptions for the iOS notification permission popup in my app, which supports multiple locales. To achieve this, I'm using InfoPlist.strings files per locale with the following keys:
NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription
NSUserTrackingUsageDescription
The issue I'm facing is that NSUserTrackingUsageDescription is working correctly across all tested locales, but NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription only works for some locales.
Locales tested:
Working: ja, tr, fr-CA
Not working: fr-BE, nl-BE
In each case, the correct localized NSUserTrackingUsageDescription appears, but the NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription falls back to the default or does not appear as expected in fr-BE and nl-BE.
I'm using Xcode 16 and testing on both iOS 18 simulator and physical devices, and the issue is consistent across both.
Any insights on whether this is a known issue in iOS or if there are additional steps needed for NSUserNotificationsUsageDescription to localize properly would be greatly appreciated.
Hi!
I am encountering an issue when attempting to send a test notification to update a live activity. The request is failing with the following error:
{
"code": 400,
"message": "bad-request",
"reason": "The device token doesn't match the specified topic.",
"requestUuid": "3ed3fc0c-9c57-4d67-8ae8-cbabe0579b10"
}
I have verified that all device tokens and app identifiers are correct, but the error persists. Could you please assist in identifying the root cause of this issue?
I’m building a firefighter app that needs to automatically check in a firefighter when they arrive at the station and check them out when they leave — even if the app is killed. We need reliable enter/exit detection, low latency, and only one fixed location per user.
We’re evaluating Region Monitoring, which works in the killed state but may introduce delays and inconsistent accuracy. To ensure mission-critical reliability, we are considering the Location Push Service Extension, since it can fetch precise location on demand and wake the extension even when the app is terminated.
Before requesting the restricted entitlement, we need clarification on Apple’s expectations:
Is Region Monitoring recommended for this fixed-location use case?
Would Apple consider approving the Location Push Service Extension for a public-safety workflow?
What prerequisites do we need before submitting the entitlement request (Always permission, prototype, privacy disclosures, etc.)?
What details should be included in the justification form?
Our goal is to follow the most reliable and Apple-approved approach for firefighter check-in/out. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.
I have multiple app ids that are registered with Push Notification, however they do not hsow up in the Push Notification Console for testing.
Could anyone play a sound from the Library/Sounds directory using alarmkit? Same file can play in app bundle, but not available in Library/Sounds directory. Is this by design?

We have been getting several reports in the past 2 weeks of APNs notifications being either heavily delayed or not delivered at all.
We have two apps, one of which has a Notification Service Extension and one of which does not. We have had users of both reporting sporadic notification problems.
Looking at the sysdiagnose logs from one example, it looks like the notification was actually processed by our notification extension in a timely fashion, but was not displayed to the user.
An example event we investigated it the following (now perhaps a little long in the tooth):
2025-10-31T14:32:54
apnsId=EE3E002D-26DE-B4F5-5E9B-5E0C1E1B6B3D
We think we have correlated this with device logs:
default 2025-10-31 10:32:54.472054 -0400 [EDE9521D-8A65-4588-8AE8-D3D78B9E5EA5] Received replacement content for notification request 859D-ABC7 [ hasContent: 1 attachments: 0 ]
However there is no other reference until the app was launched about 1.5 minutes later:
default 2025-10-31 10:34:26.875327 -0400 [..] Got 1 delivered notifications [ hasCompletionHandler: 1 ]
When trying to reproduce, when I saw notifications bannered, the trace I saw was "Got 0 delivered notifications". What's the significance of "Got 1 delivered notifications" in this case?
Historically, SpringBoard logs have shown detailed trace about the handling of notifications (which was very useful in narrowing down the slowness of notifications due to Apple Intelligence, reported on our side as FB16253547, which doesn't seem to have been triaged but it looks like was resolved around iOS 18.2.1 or iOS 18.3); however it seems that now sysdiagnoses are only containing <1 minute of trace from SpringBoard.
Is there any way to extend the trace from SpringBoard that is included in sysdiagnoses?
I see there was also https://developer.apple.com/forums/thread/806367 around the same time we started receiving reports. However I think my hypothesis is that this is a client-side issue, and notifications are being delivered to devices, just not presented correctly.
Will try and collect a bit more data and file some Feedbacks and provide them here, but wanted to also flag here in case there are any others experiencing similar.
Hello. Recently, the users of our APP have reported using our products, and they can normally receive push in Hong Kong. However, when traveling to Japan or some countries and regions in Europe, push will not be received.
we checked that
-the cert is valid
-the server get 'sent successfully' response
-used pushtry to test the cert and token and it can receive push in app
We are encountering the following issue with our VoIP application for iPhone, published on the App Store, and would appreciate your guidance on possible countermeasures.
The VoIP application (callee side) utilizes a Wi-Fi network. The sequence leading to the issue is as follows:
VoIP App (callee): Launches
iPhone (callee): Locks (e.g., by short-pressing the power button)
VoIP App (callee): Transitions to a suspended state
VoIP App (caller): Initiates a VoIP call
VoIP App (callee): Receives a local push notification
VoIP App (callee): Answers the incoming call
VoIP App (callee): Executes performAnswerCallAction()
After this, the VoIP App (callee) uses "NSTimer scheduledTimerWithTimeInterval" to manage internal processing timing. However, the processing sometimes takes longer than the specified waiting time. Specifically, delays of several seconds can occur.
We understood that if the user is interacting with the screen and both the iPhone and the VoIP app are in an active state, the VoIP app's processing would not be delayed. However, can significant delays (several seconds) in application processing still occur even when the iPhone is in an active state (i.e., the user is interacting with the screen)?"
My iPhone VoIP app, which I'm developing, uses Apple Push Notification service (APNs).
I have a question regarding the following statement found in "[Overview of app transfer > Apps using push notifications]"
Overview of app transfer
You must manually reestablish push notification services if transferring an app that uses
the Apple Push Notifications service (APNs). The recipient must create a new client
SSL certificate using their developer account, as associated client SSL certificates,
TLS certificates, and authentication tokens aren’t transferred.
Question
Let's say the recipient of the app transfer creates a "new SSL certificates, TLS certificates, and authentication tokens."
Afterward, we need to verify that the Apple Push Notification service (APNs) works correctly when combining the transferred app with this "new SSL certificates, TLS certificates, and authentication tokens."
However, until the recipient finishes verifying that it works correctly, the transferor want to keep the app available for download as before and be able to use the Apple Push Notification service. Is this possible?
More specifically, can the recipient test the app to be transferred on TestFlight "before the transfer is completed"?
I want to combine it with the "new SSL certificates, TLS certificates, and authentication tokens." and test it on TestFlight.
Reading "[Initiate an app transfer]," it mentions the existence of a "Pending App Transfer" status.
During this "Pending App Transfer" status, can the recipient test the app on TestFlight?
Initiate an app transfer
After you initiate the transfer, the app stays in its previous status, with the Pending App Transfer status added, until the recipient accepts it or the transfer expires after 60 days.
Also, if there are any documents describing these procedures, I would appreciate it if you could share them.
Thank you very much.

Currently, our company server is using the push service by calling APNS through the p8 certificate.
In this process, our server does not have a CA certificate or SSL certificate in use.
Only the p8 certificate is installed and only performs the role of calling APNS.
If it is used like this, is there no need to update the CA certificate separately?
Or do I have to apply a new SSL certificate and add the CA to it?
Can someone help me plz?

We integrated App Store Server notification, to get notified about CONSUMPTION_REQUESTS and REFUND notifications.
In the data, we noticed same transactionId have multiple REFUND decisions, usually REFUND_DECLINED and then REFUND. Why is that? Did user contact customer support ?
For the second (or later) REFUND decision, CONSUMPTION_REQUEST notifications are usually not sent, but thats not always the case. Sometimes, REFUND decision are the same. Sometimes, we get even 3 or more REFUND related notifications for same transactionId, e.g:
2024-12-02: REFUND_DECLINED
2024-12-05: REFUND_DECLINED
2024-12-12: REFUND
Do user request refund again ? Do they contact customer support ? But I can not explain why sometimes status it REFUND at first, but then later REFUND_DECLINED.
Thank you already in advance:)
