I want to create a NAT64/DNS64 test network as shown here, but I cannot figure out how to do it in the latest versions of MacOS. Is this still available and how can I access the "Create NAT64 Network" checkbox?

We need your assistance as we are currently facing an issue without a workaround for users on macOS 15.4 and 15.5.
FeedbackID: FB17547675
The problem has been observed on macOS versions 15.4 and 15.5. Apple has acknowledged this issue and confirmed that it is fixed in the macOS 15.6 beta. Although we tried to reproduce the issue in our environment, it did not occur, even on macOS 15.5. Therefore, we cannot verify if the fix in macOS 15.6 beta resolves the problem.
We are actively working to identify an appropriate workaround for users on macOS 15.5. Some users have reported a failure to obtain an IP address over Wi-Fi, possibly due to a DHCP failure.
As a temporary solution, we added logic to restart Wi-Fi programmatically when either an APIPA address (169.254.x.x) or no IPv4 address is detected on the active interface. However, restarting Wi-Fi does not always resolve the issue, and the device may still fail to obtain an IP address over Wi-Fi or Ethernet.
Could you advise if there is a reliable method to detect DHCP failure and recover the device from this state? Also, any idea, how we can reproduce this scenario in our machine?
Below is the failure.

Hi guys,
I try to create a content filter app by using network extension api. When it comes to a https/tls remote endpoint, the remoteEndpoint.hostname will always be "" instead of the actual hostname. How can I extract the actual hostname?
private func filterTraffic(flow: NEFilterSocketFlow)
-> NEFilterNewFlowVerdict
{
// Default action from settings will be used if no rules match
logger.error("filter traffic...")
guard let remoteEndpoint = flow.remoteEndpoint as? NWHostEndpoint
else {
logger.error("not a NWHostEndpoint)")
return .allow()
}
logger.error("host name: \(remoteEndpoint.hostname)")
if remoteEndpoint.hostname.hasSuffix("google.com"){
logger.error("google.com")
return .drop()
}
return .allow()
}

Our application currently uses NEFilterPacketProvider to filter network traffic based on Layer 4 rules (5-tuple: source IP, destination IP, source port, destination port, and protocol) on a packet-by-packet basis.
We now want to extend this filtering to also consider the associated process—for example, allowing traffic from a specific source IP to a destination IP and port only if it's associated with a specific local process. That is, we’d like to make filtering decisions not just based on the 5-tuple, but also on the identity of the process either sending or receiving the traffic.
We’ve looked into NEFilterSocketProvider, which does expose Layer 7 information such as process identifiers. However, it doesn’t seem to be tightly synchronized with the packet flow handled by NEFilterPacketProvider. As a result, there’s a risk that we might only get process information after the TCP handshake is complete, or before the socket is fully bound—at which point some of the 5-tuple fields (such as the local port) may still be unavailable.
What we need is a way to correlate the 5-tuple with the relevant process name (either sender or receiver) at the time the first packet—e.g., a SYN packet—is about to be sent or received.
Is there a recommended way to achieve this kind of early, process-aware filtering using NetworkExtension APIs?
I created a self signed CA and use it to generate/sign a client cert using openssl. Then I use the self signed client cert to do TLS client authentication with my server (which also uses the self signed CA). The issue I have is when I validate the self signed CA, by calling SecTrustEvaluateAsyncWithError, it always complains this error “'DigiCert Global Root G3' certificate is not trusted". However that CA (DigiCert Global Root G3) is not my self signed CA (my CA is 'MQTTSampleCA' and I attached a dump of the my CA cert in the PR in the end of this post), so I'm confused why the API keeps complaining that CA. After some researching, I see that is a well known CA so I download its cert from https://www.digicert.com/kb/digicert-root-certificates.htm, install and trust it on my iOS device, but that doesn't help and I still get the same error. I provide all the repro steps in this PR: https://github.com/liumiaojq/EmCuTeeTee/pull/1, including how I generate the certs and the source codes of a test app that I used to do cert validation. I appreciate if anyone can share insights how to resolve this error.
Hey!
We are investigating a problem pf rules being ignored by some processes. Despite blocking all traffic, some outgoing unicast packets can be seen in tcpdump. Issue is present in MacOS 15.0.0 - 15.3.1 (Newest at the time of writing). I tested MacOS 14.7.4 and pf rules there behaved as expected. Steps to reproduce the issue:
$ cat pf.conf
block all
$ sudo pfctl -e -F all -f ./pf.conf
Password:
pfctl: Use of -f option, could result in flushing of rules
present in the main ruleset added by the system at startup.
See /etc/pf.conf for further details.
No ALTQ support in kernel
ALTQ related functions disabled
rules cleared
nat cleared
dummynet cleared
0 tables deleted.
196 states cleared
source tracking entries cleared
pf: statistics cleared
pf: interface flags reset
pfctl: pf already enabled
After executing these commands MacOS 14 will block all outgoing unicast traffic, and on MacOS 15 data can be sent to arbitrary addresses:
$ ifconfig en0
en0: flags=8863<UP,BROADCAST,SMART,RUNNING,SIMPLEX,MULTICAST> mtu 1500

Was there any change in the way pfctl is used or is this a bug? This issue affects negatively privacy features of our product.

I'm looking for help with a network extension filtering issue. Specifically, we have a subclass of NEFilterDataProvider that is used to filter flows based upon a set of rules, including source IP and destination IP. We've run into an issue where the source IP is frequently 0.0.0.0 (or the IPv6 equivalent) on outgoing flows. This has made it so rules based upon source IP don't work. This is also an issue as we report these connections, but we're lacking critical data. We were able to work around the issue somewhat by keeping a list of flows that we allow that we periodically check to see if the source IP is available, and then report after it becomes available.
We also considered doing a "peekBytes" to allow a bit of data to flow and then recheck the flow, but we don't want to allow data leakage on connections that should be blocked because of the source IP.
Is there a way to force the operating system or network extension frameworks to determine the source IP for an outbound flow without allowing any bytes to flow to the network?
STEPS TO REPRODUCE
Create a network filtering extension for filtering flows using NEFilterDataProvider
See that when handleNewFlow: is called, the outgoing flow lacks the source IP (is 0.0.0.0) in most cases
There is this post that is discussing a similar question, though for a slightly different reason. I imagine the answer to this and the other post will be related, at least as far as NEFilterDataProvider:handleNewFlow not having source IP is considered.
Thanks!
When I used the iPhone 11 to scan the wifi connection, the system reported an error,
‘’’
let config = NEHotspotConfiguration(ssid: name, passphrase: passwd, isWEP: false)
let manager = NEHotspotConfigurationManager()
manager.apply(config) { error in
}
’’’
NEHotspotConfigurationErrorDomain Code=8 “internal error.” , the only thins that fixes this issue it restarting the iPhone.
What is the reason for this and how to solve it?

Hello,
I have been implementing NEAppPushProvider class to establish my own protocol to directly communicate with our provider server without the need to rely on APNs for background push notifications.
I am at a stage where I am able to establish a tcp communicator and receive messages back and forth but I noticed that when I disconnect from the WIFI I've set up by setting a given SSID, I am not getting hit on the Stop method. Below is briefly how I load and save preferences.
NEAppPushManager appPushManager = new NEAppPushManager();
appPushManager.LoadFromPreferences((error) =>
{
if (error != null)
{
Console.WriteLine($"Error loading NEAppPushManager preferences: {error.LocalizedDescription}");
return;
}
if (!enable)
{
Console.WriteLine("Disabling Local Push Provider...");
appPushManager.Enabled = false;
// ✅ Immediately update UserDefaults before saving preferences
userDefaults.SetBool(false, Constants.IsLocalPushEnabled);
userDefaults.Synchronize();
appPushManager.SaveToPreferences((saveError) =>
{
if (saveError != null)
{
Console.WriteLine($"Error disabling Local Push: {saveError.LocalizedDescription}");
}
else
{
Console.WriteLine("Local Push successfully disabled.");
}
});
return;
}
// ✅ Now we can safely enable Local Push
Console.WriteLine($"Enabling Local Push for SSID: {_currentSSID}");
appPushManager.MatchSsids = new string[] { _currentSSID };
appPushManager.LocalizedDescription = "LocalPushProvider";
appPushManager.ProviderBundleIdentifier = Constants.LocalPushExtensionBundleId;
appPushManager.Enabled = true;
appPushManager.SaveToPreferences((saveError) =>
{
if (saveError != null)
{
Console.WriteLine($"Error saving Local Push settings: {saveError.LocalizedDescription}");
}
else
{
Console.WriteLine("✅ Local Push successfully registered.");
userDefaults.SetBool(true, Constants.IsLocalPushEnabled);
userDefaults.Synchronize();
}
});
});
I've read through documentation and was expecting the Stop method to be hit when I turn off Wifi. Am I missing anything? Please let me know if I should provide more info. Currently I just have a console writeline method inside the Stop method to see if it actually gets hit.

My app sent a network request to the backend. The backend returns a 200, but the front end received a -1001 or -1005 NSURLError. Any clue why this could be happening?
on MacOS I am using raw socket and PF_Route options to monitor the routing table changes but looks like that is not supported in iOS
what are the other ways to achieve real time monitoring in iOS ?

Hi everyone,
I'm building a health-focused iOS and watchOS app that uses WatchConnectivity to sync real-time heart rate and core body temperature data from iPhone to Apple Watch. While the HealthKit integration works correctly on the iPhone side, I'm facing persistent issues with WatchConnectivity — the data either doesn't arrive on the Watch, or session(_:didReceiveMessage:) never gets triggered.
Here's the setup:
On iPhone: Using WCSession.default.sendMessage(_:replyHandler:errorHandler:) to send real-time values every few seconds.
On Apple Watch: Implemented WCSessionDelegate, and session(_:didReceiveMessage:) is supposed to update the UI.
Both apps have WCSession.isSupported() checks, activate the session, and assign delegates correctly.
The session state shows isPaired = true and isWatchAppInstalled = true.
Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are on, both devices are unlocked and nearby.
Despite all this, the Watch never receives messages in real-time. Sometimes, data comes through in bulk much later or not at all.
I've double-checked Info.plist configurations and made sure background modes include "Uses Bluetooth LE accessories" and "Background fetch" where appropriate.
I would really appreciate guidance on:
Best practices for reliable, low-latency message delivery with WatchConnectivity.
Debugging steps or sample code to validate message transmission and reception.
Any pitfalls related to UI updates from the delegate method.
Happy to share further details. Thanks in advance!

I have 3 phones
iPhone 14 iOS 18.3
iPhone Xr iOS 18.5
iPhone Xr iOS 18.4.1
My app has a network extension, and I've noticed each phone having their connectivity interupted by calls on the push provider, calling stop with the noNetworkAvailable reason. The point of confusion is that each phone seems to get it's interuption at different times. For example one will get an interuption at 1:00, while the others is fine, while at 3:00 another will get an interuption, while the others are fine.
This is confusing since a "no network available" seems to imply a problem with the router, or access point, but if that were the case, one would believe it should affect all the phones on the wifi. I don't see less interuptions on the iPhone14 vs the iPhone Xr. Do you believe the iOS version is affecting the performance?
Could you please give me some insight, as to what could be going on inside these phones?
P.S. I also see an error pop up when using NWConnection, this is inside the App. The state update handler will sometimes return the state, waiting(POSIX(.ENETDOWN)) Is there any relation to what's going on in the extension?
I'm able to discover a service with Bonjour, which gets me an nw_browse_result_t from which I can get an nw_endpoint_t and then an nw_connection_t. That's all fine. But this particular service runs on 3 ports. The port numbers of the other 2 ports are in the txt record (but they are well-known and stable anyway).
How can I create 2 more nw_connection_t to the same host/IP but on a different port?
I already have this working with NSNetService, but am trying to update to Network.framework.
I've found nw_endpoint_get_address() but the docs say it returns null "if the endpoint is not of type nw_endpoint_type_address" and indeed nw_browse_result_t gives me an nw_endpoint_type_bonjour_service.

I'm using Network framework for communication between devices. The first time I instantiate an NWBrowser, it will prompt the user with a popup that says:
Allow <app name> to find devices on local networks?
The problem is, once I upgraded from Xcode 15.4 to Xcode 16.4, the popup doesn't appear; it says in the debug window:
nw_browser_fail_on_dns_error_locked [B1] nw_browser_dns_service_browse_callback failed: PolicyDenied(18,446,744,073,709,486,046)
I do have the info.plist keys Privacy-Local Network Usage Description (NSLocalNetworkUsageDescription) and Bonjour Services (NSBonjourServices) so it's not that.
Also, It still works on a real device.
I think something changed with Xcode 16 that tightened the security on a simulator, or maybe disabled Network framework entirely. It's not the firewall on my computer because that is turned off. I'm using an M1 MacBook Pro.
I was wondering which is the preferred way to send a lot of data from sensors of the apple watch to server.
It is preferred to send small chucks to iphone and then to server or directly send bulk data to server from watch. How does it affect battery and resources from watch ?
Are there any triggers that I can use to ensure best data stream. I need to send at least once a day. Can I do it in background or do I need the user to have my app in the foreground ?
Thank you in advance

Hi everyone,
I'm developing an enterprise iOS application and need to access the WiFi connection channel. I understand that Apple's privacy and security policies restrict direct access to certain network details, including the WiFi connection channel.
After some research, I found that this data might be accessible via the private API MobileWiFi.framework. However, when I tried to use this framework, I encountered the following error:
Missing com.apple.wifi.manager-access entitlement
I reached out to Apple regarding this entitlement, but they were not familiar with it, suggesting it might be deprecated.
Here are my questions:
Is there an official or supported way to access the WiFi connection channel in an enterprise iOS app?
If not, is there any workaround or additional steps required to use the MobileWiFi.framework without encountering the entitlement error?
Are there any specific entitlements or provisioning profile configurations that I need to be aware of to resolve this issue?
Any guidance or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!
I am adopting Swift Concurrency in my network extension app to use Swift 6 protections.
In the UI app I ended up with most of the app marked as MainActor, so that pieces of my app can keep seamless access to each other and at the same time have thread safe access.
When it comes to my network extension, does it make sense to also mark most of the code as MainActor for the purposes of thread safety and seamless access of most classes to each other? I have doubts, because MainActor sounds like it should be a UI think, but network extension has no UI
Of course any long or blocking operations would not be MainActor
