Gathering Required Information for Troubleshooting Apple Pay In-App Provisioning or In-App Verification Issues
Hi, You're here because you've had issues with your implementation of Wallet Extensions for Apple Pay In-App Provisioning or In-App Verification. To prevent sending sensitive credentials in plain text, create a new report in Feedback Assistant to share the details requested below with the appropriate log profiles installed. Gathering Required Information for Troubleshooting Apple Pay In-App Provisioning or In-App Verification Issues While troubleshooting Apple Pay In-App Provisioning or In-App Verification, it is essential that the issuer is able to collect logs on their device and check those logs for error message. This is also essential when reporting issues to Apple. To gather the required data for your own debugging as well as reporting issues, please perform the following steps on the test device: Install the Apple Pay and Wallet profiles on your iOS or watchOS device. If the issue occurs on Mac, continue to Step 2. Reproduce the issue and make a note of the timestamp when the issue occurred, while optionally capturing screenshots or video. Gather a sysdiagnose on the same iOS or watchOS device, or on macOS. Create a Feedback Assistant report with the following information: The bundle IDs App bundle ID Non-UI app extension bundle ID (if applicable) UI app extension bundle ID (if applicable) The serial number of the device. For iOS and watchOS: Open Settings > General > About > Serial Number (tap and hold to copy). For macOS: Open the Apple () menu > About This Mac > Serial Number. The SEID (Secure Element Identifier) of the device, represented as a HEX encoded string. For iOS and watchOS: Open Settings > General > About > SEID (tap and hold to copy). For macOS: Open the Apple () menu > About This Mac > System Report > NVMExpress > Serial Number. The sysdiagnose gathered after reproducing the issue. The timestamp (including timezone) of when the issue was reproduced. The type of provisioning failure (e.g., error at Terms & Conditions, error when adding a card, etc.) The issuer/network/country of the provisioned card (e.g., Mastercard – US) Last 4 digits of the FPAN Last 4 digits of the DPAN (if available) Was this test initiated from the Issuer App? (e.g., yes or no) The type of environment (e.g., sandbox or production) Screenshots or videos of errors and unexpected behaviors (optional). Important: From the logs gathered above, you should be able to determine the cause of the failure from PassbookUIService, PassKit or PassKitCore, and by filtering for your SEID or bundle ID of your app or app extensions in the Console app. Submitting your feedback Before you submit to Feedback Assistant, please confirm the requested information above is included in your feedback. Failure to provide the requested information will only delay my investigation into the reported issue within your Apple Pay client. After your submission to Feedback Assistant is complete, please respond in your existing Developer Forums post with the Feedback ID. Once received, I can begin my investigation and determine if this issue is caused by an error within your client, a configuration issue within your developer account, or an underlying system bug. Create a Feedback Assistant report with the following information: The serial number of the device. The timestamp of when the issue was reproduced. Screenshots or videos of errors and unexpected behaviors (optional). Important: From the logs gathered above, you should be able to determine the cause of the failure from PassbookUIService, PassKit or PassKitCore, and by filtering for your SEID or merchant domain in the Safari Web Inspector. Apple Pay In-App Provisioning – Apple server failure when adding a card
During Apple Pay in-app provisioning (EV_ECC_v2), our iOS app successfully obtains the issuer provisioning certificates and generates cryptographic material. The flow fails when Apple posts the card blob to Apple’s broker (card creation step), returning HTTP 500 from .../broker/v4/devices/{SEID}/cards. Steps: Call issuerProvisioningCertificates?encryptionVersion=EV_ECC_v2 → 200 OK; returns ECC leaf + Apple Root CA chain; nonce=2a831be4. 2. Build {encryptedCardData, activationData, ephemeralPublicKey} 3. POST /broker/v4/devices/{SEID}/cards Expected: 200 OK on /broker/v4/devices/{SEID}/cards, or 5xx with a descriptive error if payload/cryptography is invalid. Observed: 500 Internal Server Error from Apple broker on /cards (labeled “eligibility” in PassKit logs), causing a terminal failure in Wallet UI.

App Fails to Access Added Passes
We’ve integrated in-app card provisioning into our application. All required configurations have been completed, including: Token Service Provider (TSP) setup Certificates uploaded to the Apple Developer portal While the card is successfully added to the Wallet app, our application is currently unable to retrieve or read the added passes.

System canceled add payment pass - Apple Wallet
Hello All - I'm attempting to enable my companies app to add credit card to Apple Wallet. Part of our app enables customers to generate new virtual cards on demand and I'm attempting to enable the ability to add these cards to the Apple Wallet. Everything seems to be working all the way to the final stage of the process where I get a PKPassKitErrorDomain systemCancelled and I can't seem to find any clues as to why the system is canceling. For context - I have the com.apple.developer.payment-pass-provisioning entitlement. I have both the Wallet and In-App Provisioning capabilities enabled in the App. I have defined a PKAddPaymentPassViewControllerDelegate class that implements both the generateRequest and didFinishAdding methods. I'm leveraging PKAddPaymentPassViewController in SwiftUI by using a UIViewControllerRepresentable implementing class that returns the view controller properly when makeUIViewController is called. I build a PKAddPaymentPassRequest object and ensure that it is properly filled with encryptedPassData, activationData, and ephemeralPublicKey. As a user I'm able to go to the virtual card view, open the instance of PKAddPaymentPassViewController, select the destination for the card, see the Add Card information. I get to the point where the view tells me it's contacting the card issuer and then I get an error message "Could Not Add Card - Try again later or contact your card issuer for more information" with a "Set Up Later" button. I then get the system canceled error. I should mention that I'm able to add these virtual cards manually via the Apple Wallet. The process works similarly but requires me to provided an OTP to conclude the process. This flow works and I have active cards in my wallet. I'm having a very hard time figuring out how to try and debug this issue further. The only error that the system returns is the system canceled notice. Any insight into where I might be missing something or how to debug the issue further would be greatly appreciated. Any thought on how I could debug this further would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance - AYAL

UNEXPECTED_CANCEL_AFTER_completeMerchantValidation
Hi, We are trying to make payment from ecomm merchant. The last request during process is { "sessionData": { "epochTimestamp": "1741082241", "expiresAt": "1741092241", "merchantSessionIdentifier": "SSH88312C485D_7E0DD10173", "nonce": "3f6dc197", "merchantIdentifier": "5F9BC6BAF8", "domainName": "libertybank.ge", "displayName": "Apple Pay Purchase", "signature": "3080060000", "operationalAnalyticsIdentifier": "Apple Pay Purchase:5F9BC6BAF8", "retries": 0, "pspId": "5F9BC6BAF8" } } which is successfully validated applePaySession.completeMerchantValidation(data.sessionData) After this, the "oncancel" handler is triggered in applePay. Please help us to understand what is wrong. Please note the domain where the applepay button is located is at txpg.libertypay.ge Which is successfully verified.

Stability issues with Apple Pay Sandbox Cards
We are writing to report a recurring stability issue with the Apple Pay sandbox environment. We are using the official sandbox test cards provided on the Apple Developer website for our testing: https://developer.apple.com/apple-pay/sandbox-testing/ We are experiencing frequent, intermittent failures when attempting to add these sandbox cards to the Wallet for testing purposes. The issue typically occurs a couple of times per day. When the failure occurs, the card provisioning process fails unexpectedly. The issue is not limited to a single card; we have observed this behavior across all available card networks. In some instances, all cards (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex) fail to provision simultaneously. At other times, the issue appears to be isolated to specific networks while others work correctly. Crucially, the issue appears to be temporary. After some time passes (ranging from minutes to an hour), we are able to add the exact same card successfully without making any changes to our test environment or configuration. We have diligently checked our setup to rule out configuration errors on our end. This includes verifying: The device is set to a supported region. We are signed in with a valid sandbox tester Apple ID. All other prerequisites for sandbox testing are met. The fact that the process works correctly at other times strongly suggests that this is a server-side stability issue within the Apple Pay sandbox environment rather than a persistent misconfiguration on our part. To help with your investigation, we have attached an image that demonstrates a failed attempt to add a card. Could you please investigate the stability of the sandbox card provisioning service? Please let us know if this is a known issue or if there is any further information we can provide. Thank you for your time and assistance.

Issue Integrating Apple Pay JS – `merchantSession` Blocke
Hello Apple Devs, We’re currently trying to integrate Apple Pay on the web using Apple Pay JS. We've followed the official documentation closely, but we're running into a blocker during the merchantSession validation phase. We successfully retrieved a merchantSession, which looks like this: json { "displayName": "Our Name", "domainName": "https://pay.ourdomain.co", "epochTimestamp": , "expiresAt": ****************, "merchantIdentifier": "", "merchantSessionIdentifier": ", "nonce": "", "operationalAnalyticsIdentifier": our name "t:", "pspId": "", "retries": 0, "signature": "*****************..." } Issue: Shortly after initiating the session, we receive a cancel event with the following info: ApplePayCancelEvent { type: "cancel", sessionError: { code: "unknown", info: {} } } We're unsure what causes the cancellation. There are no clear error messages or hints in the logs to identify what went wrong. What We’ve Checked: The merchantSession is returned successfully from our backend. The domainName matches our frontend domain (https://pay.durdomain.co). The session hasn’t expired when tested. We're using Apple Pay JS APIs as described in the documentation. Help Needed: What can trigger an ApplePayCancelEvent with an "unknown" error code? Any insight or guidance would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Handling Empty in_app Data in iOS Order Verification
Body: Hello, We are currently implementing iOS order verification and have encountered an issue. Some of the receipts we verify return with an empty in_app array, which makes it impossible to determine whether there is a valid in-app purchase. Below is the code we’re using for verification and the result we receive: Code Example: public function iosVerifyReceipt($receipt, $password = '', $sandbox = false) { $url = $sandbox ? 'https://sandbox.itunes.apple.com/verifyReceipt' : 'https://buy.itunes.apple.com/verifyReceipt'; if (empty($password)) { $data = json_encode(['receipt-data' => $receipt]); } else { $data = json_encode(['receipt-data' => $receipt, 'password' => $password]); } $ch = curl_init($url); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POST, true); curl_setopt($ch, CURLOPT_POSTFIELDS, $data); $result = curl_exec($ch); curl_close($ch); $result = json_decode($result, true); $result = $result ?? []; $result['sandbox'] = $sandbox; if ($result['status'] != 0) { Log::warning('ios verify receipt failed', ['receipt' => $receipt, 'result' => $result, 'sandbox' => $sandbox]); if ($result['status'] == 21007) { return $this->iosVerifyReceipt($receipt, $password, true); } } return $result; } // Order validation check if (empty($result) || $result['status'] != 0) { throw new BadRequestHttpException("Ios Order Verify Error"); } $appItemId = $result['receipt']['app_item_id'] ?? ""; if ($appItemId != MY_APP_ID) { throw new BadRequestHttpException("Ios Order Verify Error"); } $inApp = array_filter( $result['receipt']['in_app'] ?? [], function ($item) use ($transactionId,$order) { return $item['transaction_id'] == $transactionId && $item['product_id'] == $order->getProductId(); } ); if (empty($inApp)) { throw new BadRequestHttpException( "Ios Order Verify Error"); } Array ( [receipt] => Array ( [receipt_type] => Production [adam_id] => * [app_item_id] => * [bundle_id] => * [application_version] => 5511 [download_id] => * [version_external_identifier] => * [receipt_creation_date] => 2025-02-11 04:06:47 Etc/GMT [receipt_creation_date_ms] => * [receipt_creation_date_pst] => 2025-02-10 20:06:47 America/Los_Angeles [request_date] => 2025-02-11 15:54:56 Etc/GMT [request_date_ms] => * [request_date_pst] => 2025-02-11 07:54:56 America/Los_Angeles [original_purchase_date] => 2025-02-11 04:02:41 Etc/GMT [original_purchase_date_ms] => * [original_purchase_date_pst] => 2025-02-10 20:02:41 America/Los_Angeles [original_application_version] => * [preorder_date] => 2025-01-17 21:12:28 Etc/GMT [preorder_date_ms] => * [preorder_date_pst] => 2025-01-17 13:12:28 America/Los_Angeles [in_app] => Array ( ) ) [environment] => Production [status] => 0 [sandbox] => )

How to Handle Subscription Requests Sent Directly to /apple/notifications
We received a request directly from /apple/notifications. This subscription is not a renewal, but a first-time purchase. We associate the originalTransactionId with the user's ID to identify the subscribed user. However, since we do not have access to the user's ID on our server through this direct request, we are unable to properly process the subscription. How should we handle this type of subscription request? What is the source of this subscription, and why are some users able to bypass in-app purchases for first-time subscriptions and make the purchase directly?

Apple Pay Domain Reverify Failed
We are attempting to integrate the Apple Pay service into our website and have successfully verified our domain with Apple manually. However, we consistently receive an 'ApplePay reverify failed' email a month before the expiration time. Upon checking, we updated the SSL certificate for the domain before receiving the email, and the link still works fine in the browser. We would greatly appreciate any feedback from someone who can help us with this issue.

Replacement For Expiring Merchant Identity Certificate Validation Issue
We are on a .NET ecommerce site hosted on AWS on a windows 2012R2 server. We have apple pay for the web integrated on the site and the certificates (merchant id and apple pay) were set to expire shortly. We created a new merchant id and apple pay cert, however we are now stuck as the new merchant ID certificate doesn't appear to be working although the old one did. Note there have been no code changes. Basically the apple pay process is failing on the merchant validation. Here are the steps we took: Created a CSR in Keychain Access Generated a Merchant ID cert in the Apple Developer account with that CSR. Imported the Merchant ID cert back into Keychain Access and exported as a p12 file the cert and the private key used to generate the CSR. Imported the p12 file into Windows 2012 R2. I can see in our debugging that the new certificate is being loaded but a SSL/TSL connection couldn't be made. So it seems there is an issue with the cert. Has anyone encountered this? I'm out of ideas at this point and under a lot of pressure from management to fix what was supposed to be a routine maintenance issue. If anyone has any ideas, that would be greatly appreciated.

Merchant domain verification
Hello, I'm experiencing an irregular issue with Apple Pay merchant domain verification. As you know, Apple requires domain verification every two months to maintain Apple Pay functionality. The problem is that while the verification sometimes happens automatically without any issues, other times it fails to complete, even though the required file "apple-developer-merchantid-domain-association.txt" is correctly available on our server. When automatic verification fails, the Apple Pay service becomes non-functional on our website, forcing us to perform a manual verification to restore the pending service. Is it normal to encounter such inconsistent automatic verification processes? What could be causing these intermittent verification failures, whereas manual verification always succeed? suggesting this might not be related to IP address restrictions described on the Apple documentation. Thank you in advance,

iOS subscription: First purchase never triggers server notifications for a new Subscription Group
Hello, I’m experiencing a strange issue with a newly created Subscription Group in my iOS app. For all my existing subscription groups, everything works perfectly — initial purchase, renewals, cancellations, all notifications arrive normally. But for this one newly created group, the first purchase never triggers any server notification from App Store Server Notifications (ASSN). ⸻ 📘 Problem Summary • I created a new Subscription Group in App Store Connect. • The products are all Approved and Published for over a week. • Users can successfully purchase the subscription in production. • The purchase is shown as Purchased in the App Store purchase UI. • The receipt can be fetched locally on device. • But my server receives no notifications, including: • DID_RENEW • DID_CHANGE_RENEWAL_STATUS • SUBSCRIBED • ONE_TIME_CHARGE • CONSUMPTION_REQUEST • etc. The old subscription groups still send notifications normally, so the notification URL and server infrastructure are correct.

Adding a previous card to Apple Wallet and Express Travel Enabled
We are working with a large fintech org on project connected with provisioning payment cards to Apple Wallet. When we add a previously provisioned card to the Wallet (using the Wallet UI, Add card -> Previous card). It adds the card on one device showing the Express Travel card screen after the card is added allowing the user to set the card as an express travel card during the provisioning flow but never on our other devices. All of the test devices are clean and have only the same single card provisioned. What triggers the Express Travel Card screen to be shown during the add previous card flow? (Why is it showing on one device and not another).
